Small Italian Beige and Burgundy Marble Lobed Basin or Vide Poche
Located in Dallas, TX
Hand-carved in Italy during the 1900’s, this small marble lobed basin would make a great vide-poche. A vide-poche (literally “empty pocket”) is a small storage bowl for everyday items, such as car keys, loose change, wallets, etc. A marble basin of this size might have originally been used in a Catholic church as a holy water vessel. The gadrooned lobes carved along the outside give the appearance of a stylized scalloped shell. On the back of the shell is an excavated block of marble, which is how the basin would have been affixed to a wall. The beautiful beige colored marble with burgundy inclusions and white veining has been carved with a quarter round molding along the rim. A versatile item, our small Italian marble shell basin...

Located in Milan, Italy
Bjorn Wiinblad for Rosenthal Hand-decorated glass plates in bright colors. With Wiinblad's distinctive look, these plates are as much a decorative piece as they are a festive piece; the colors are exquisite and the classic Wiinblad look. Equipped with a hook on the back to display them on the wall or place them on a plate stand. Signed and dated 1979, 1977, 1980, 1976, 1981 and 1978. Biography Bjørn Wiinblad was a Danish painter and ceramicist known for his whimsical illustrations and carefully designed household objects. Wiinblad’s signature round-faced, smiling figures in fantastical or folkloric settings, made him a popular and admired creative talent in his native country. Born on September 20, 1918 in Copenhagen, Denmark, he trained as a typographer before becoming an artist. He worked extensively with the Nymolle and Rosenthal pottery companies, designing a commemorative annual Christmas plate for the latter in 1971. AKMD Lily Pad Marble Soap Dish
Located in Chicago, IL
These hand-carved marble soap dishes are crafted by traditional artisans in Rajasthan State, India. Their shape derives from lily pads, and they drain excellently, sparing one's soap from getting soggy. Hand-made, so individual items may vary subtly from one to the next. Marble carving has been practiced in Rajastan since at least the 7th century. Marble was known as the 'royal stone' and carvers used it to construct tombs, palaces, and temples. The Taj Mahal is composed entirely of white marble. Marble is a metamorphic rock that forms when limestone is subjected to heat and pressure in the Earth. It is composed primarily of the mineral calcite (CaCO3) and often contains other minerals, such as mica, quartz, pyrite, iron oxide, and graphite. Marble is a rock resulting from metamorphism of sedimentary carbonate rocks, most commonly limestone or dolomite (rock). Metamorphism causes variable recrystallization of the original carbonate mineral grains. white marble is the result of metamorphism of a very pure (silicate-poor) limestone or dolomite protolith. DESIGNER Michael W...
