1750 Venezia Italy Green Light Blue Lacquered and Shaped Wooden Box with Flowers
Located in Brescia, IT
This is a refined lacquered and shaped wooden box, with polychrome Chinese figures and fine floral decoration on green and light blue background.
The curved shape of the box, on the front, on the sides and of the feet, the rich carving, are the result of the high level craftemanships of the Venetian master cabinetery.
This magnificent piece hails from the Mid-18th Century in Venezia and masterfully shows the lacquered Venetian style.
Its carefully considered proportions, refined carvings, magnificent color of the lacquer, and premium materials culminate in this wooden box that shows sophistication and grace.
This is a little jewel, a case to contain jewels.
One of the distinctive characteristics of Venetian Baroque and Rococo furniture is the skilful use of lacquers. Lacquer is a natural resin that was very rare in the past, imported from the East and used to create smooth and colored surfaces on furniture, ready to be finely decorated with refined floral designs or exotic animals.
Venetian artisans became masters in lacquer processing which required time and patience because it was made with many steps.
The Venetian style deeply influenced furniture design throughout Europe, but none reached the Venetian level in terms of beauty. The skillful use of lacquer and carvings defined Venice's unique style during the Rococo period, its Golden Age.
The iron little key is not working. Inside are visible some scribbles.
The piece is in very good state of maintenance and guaranteed original in every parts. The surface was only cleaned not restored and it is original.

Most pieces of furniture from the Baroque era date from the period between 1670 and around 1750. Starting with strict but pompous forms, Baroque furniture developed into playful pieces of furniture with numerous curves and magnificent fittings by the middle of the 18th century. Baroque chests of drawers mostly date from the period between 1720 and 1750 and feature multiple curved fronts and veneer marquetry. Baroque tables and chairs feature lavishly curved legs, the lower ends of which end in volutes or animal hooves. Towards the end of the Baroque period and the Rococo period, the curved legs of tables and chairs merge into the frames in a single sweep. Baroque cabinets are usually disproportionately large by today's living standards, as they originally stood in castles. Heights of 2.40 to 2.60 meters are not uncommon for baroque cabinets.
In early Baroque furniture...

French 1750 Antique Double Compartment Pocket Snuff Flask Carved In Coquille Nut
Located in Miami, FL
Pocket snuff flask carved from coquille nut.
Amazing small pocket snuff bottle, carved from a large coquille nut. This antique piece was created in the shape of a spinning top with two secret compartments which can be unscrewed to open. Made in the continental Europe and most probably French or Portuguese provenance from the 18th century, circa 1780. Extensively decorated with organic and floral motifs with a beautiful image of a nut on the upper part.
Curiously due to the shape of this piece, it could be played as a spinning tool on a table. This adds a particular interest for the multiple use with which the carving was conceived.
Weight: 42.60 Grams.
Measurements: Diameter of 40 mm and a height of 89 mm (1.57 x 3.5 Inches).
Hallmarks: No marks, gorgeous deep antique patina.
Coquille Nut
The coquille nut emanates from swampy areas on the eastern side of South America, from a palm known as the “attalea funiefera”. Brazilians call it “Piassabe”. The nuts were introduced into Western Europe in the mid-16th century, and used for small carved objects until the end of the 19th century. Coquille nut is a fruit of a Brazilian palm...
