A magnificent and monumental pair of patinated bronze figures depicting native Americans, La Peche and La Chasse. Known as the "Allegory Of Fishing", sculpted and signed by Duchoiselle, these marvelous patinated bronze figures are seen seated on canoes, hunting. On the Chief's canoe are his hunting spoils, which include birds and wild boar. Bronze with a brown and parcel-gilt patina can be found throughout each subject with elaborate chissel work, making these two as life-like and as natural as possible. The two are further adorned with 24k parcel-gilt decoration on their arm and ankle bangles, feathered crowns, jewelry and fish netting. Duchoiselle is an exceptional artist known for supplying ceiling reliefs for the Louvre and Garnier's Paris Opera in 1882. A sublime Burmese carved, lacquered and gilt hardwood crowned Buddha seated in a "western pose", early to mid 20th century, Burma (Myanmar). The elegant and graceful Buddha is portrayed wearing an elaborate six pointed crown with two large "wings" to the side, and a simple robe wrapped around the body and draped over one shoulder. He is seated upon a high stepped throne, his feet resting upon a double lotus pedestal. The Buddha's face is serene. He stares out in the distance calmly, with eyes slightly downcast, and a slight smile on his face. His long, pendulous earlobes blend in with the wings of the elaborate crown upon his head. A lotus bud finial would originally have surmounted the head, but is now missing. He holds one hand in his lap, palm up in a meditative gesture. His other hand rests gently on his knee. This pose, with the Buddha seated upon a raised throne, with both legs planted on the floor, is often referred to as a "western pose". The pose is most often associated with the Bodhisattva Maitreya...

A Very Fine Pair of Late 19th Century Two Tone Bronze Nine Light Candelabra After Clodion After Clodion Each cast as a female and a male figure from a bacchanale upholding eight scroll branches with a central branch in the form of a quiver, on a bronze mounted circular base of granite. Claude Michael Clodion, [1738-1814], was the son-in-law of sculptor Augustin Pajou; he trained in Paris in the workshops of Lambert Sigisbert Adam, his maternal uncle and Jean-Baptiste Pigalle, the most successful sculptor of the time. After winning the Prix de Rome, he moved to Italy, sharing a studio with Jean-Antoine Houdon and studying antique, Renaissance, and Baroque sculpture. In 1771 Clodion returned to Paris, where he continued to produce mostly in terracotta. He also worked with his brothers in other media, decorating objects...

Alexandre Henri Devaulx (French, 1856-1940) was the son of the noted sculptor of the Romanticism period, François Théodore Devaulx (1808–1870). Born in Paris, he studied under E. Devaulx, making his début as a sculptor at the 1876 Paris Salon with Portrait, a plaster medallion. Alexandre Henri Devaulx became a member of the Artistes Français in 1888, winning an award with merit in the same year....
