Very important “Nwantamtay” dance African mask, consisting of three sections: The upper in plain rectangular shape surmounted by a crescent shape moon, the middle with beautiful geometric triangles in black bitumen and white kaolin, surrounding a red cruciform in the centre of remarkable contrasting colors, and the lower part or face inscribed in a circular space that inspired numbered great artists like Joan Miro, Picasso and Henry Moore of a very strongly solar symbolism, with a projecting protuberance emanating from the forehead like a sculpted bird beak, that descents toward the mouth. Concentric eyes harmonize with the circular mouth, both with of elegant proportions. The whole mask exudes a supreme harmony and perfect balance rarely seen in this pieces. The back-side presents nice ware that attested the ancient origin and traces of animistic ceremonies as the use of animal blood residues. The painting of brown bitumen or cola, the natural colorants in red and ocher tones and the white kaolin are original and do not show any repainted or restored areas, giving a freshness rarely seen in old pieces. This exceptional mask Bwa, of the Hound`e Region in Burkina-Fasso, was used it the transit ceremonies and funerals manifesting the presence of “Do”, name given to their God sons, protectors and powerful spirits. The round face also represents an owl, the curving beak of the bird plants a seed into the sun, like a female sexual vulva being fecundated by the male organ; the eternal symbol of Ying and Yang, masculine and feminine, and the quest of life and death. This mask of Primitive facture can be compared to the one in the celebrated Verite Collection (this one being larger) sold in Paris at the Hotel Drouot, Saturday June 17, Lot 59, for 80,000 Euros and remarkably stands out from the Pierre and Tannia Matisse sold in Sotheby’s, New York in May 13, 2011. This fragment is from a church in Florence. It was found and saved from the historic flooding of the Arno River in 1966.
Fossil agate coral is mounted on top of the artifact. Fossil agate coral is Florida's state stone and is known for its unique formation that can take place over 20 million years. It's a natural gemstone that is created when prehistoric coral is gradually replaced with agate. It is adorned with coordinating red phantom crystals and chalcedony rosettes that resemble the color and texture of the piece.
The piece has been naturally distressed from the flood. It has been preserved and transformed by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she created the piece and the period shows that the Italian fragment is originally 17th century.

This fragment is from a church in Florence. It was found and saved from the historic Florence Flood of 1966. This was one of the worst floods recorded since the Renaissance and drew thousands of volunteers from all over the world to help save the city known for its precious history, artwork, artifacts, and rare books. The volunteers were called "the mud angels" because of the mud and silt left everything from the damage of the flood. There is still the original paint and silt left on the piece to uphold the integrity, craftmanship, and history of sculptural fragment.

'Takamaka Opal', is a unique glass sculpture by the Austrian artist Sandra A. Fuchs, created in aqua, deep red and vibrant orange glass. Fuchs creates her own multi-colored and complex glass canes, which are then cut to create small 'murrina'. These she composes to create her flat sheet 'canvas' glass artworks, which are fired again, to fuse the pieces together. The detail is breathtaking and testament to these labour intensive unique works. The dimensions above are for the glass panel and European Walnut wood base.
Sandra A. Fuchs lives and works in Mautern, a small town located on the Danube within the Wachau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in Austria and in Murano, Italy.
Specializing in the areas of cold working, fusing and flameworking, Fuchs has undertaken additional advanced training for glassblowing at the Technical College of Glass for Design and Craft (Kramsach, Tyrol, Austria) Abate Zanetti (Scuola del Vetro, Murano, Italy) and at Cam Ocagi (The Glass Furnace Istanbul, Turkey). Her artistic approach and style has also been developed through attending numerous master classes with artists predominantly from Italy and the USA. Since 2014 and after much time abroad, Fuchs is now focused on working exclusively as an independent glass artist in her own studio.
Fuchs’ artworks share a common ‘spirit’ and ‘organic’ aesthetic. The themes which run through her pieces are inspired by the beauty and power of nature; of rising, elevating and growth, which she also interprets from a spiritual influence. She feels creativity and vision are born by traveling, connecting with people from around the world and through cultural exchange.
Her signature fused panels have an inner life which is captured in dense and complex patterns which are formed from many unique pieces of ‘murrine’, which Fuchs designs and makes by herself. Traditionally ‘murrine’ all possess the same pattern, however by employing a different kiln formed technique, Fuchs makes each ‘murrina’ unique by having more control during the stretching process whilst working with her hot molten glass.
With her blown art works, Fuchs combines this new special manufacturing technique of 'kiln formed murrine’ (which has only been in existence since 1992) with centuries old traditional Muranese glassblowing knowledge, resulting in pieces that are the only ones of their kind worldwide.
