High-Grade Amethyst Cathedral Geode
Located in Ametista Do Sul, BR
A Gorgeous, High-Grade Galaxy Amethyst Geode with Rare Inclusions ▫️ Description Magnificent, rare and colorful, this Amethyst Geode features a stunning multi-colored, deep purple Amethyst crystals on a perfectly cathedral shape geode. Imagine this geode enhancing your space, offering a calming energy. What first catches the eye in this geode is the variety and beauty of its Amethyst crystals. At the top, a sparkling purple galaxy druzy resembles a night sky, beautifully accented by elongated flower formations naturally filled with golden goethite inclusions—reminiscent of shooting comets. On the bottom half, a crown-like formation of large Amethyst points has uniquely taken shape. This rare formation is found in only a handful of mines, making this geode truly one-of-a-kind. Within and around this "crown," additional calcite crystals and smaller Amethyst points with unique inclusions further enhance the specimen’s beauty. Overall, this geode stands out not only for its vibrant banded agate but also for its exceptional variety of mineral inclusions, such as Goethite (Cacoxenite), Calcite, and other fascinating mineral formations. Perfectly sized at just over 21 inches tall and weighing 39 lbs, it’s ideal for display as a centerpiece or addition to your collection. The geode's base consists of a thin Basalt layer, securely reinforced to protect and showcase its intricate and delicate natural structure. Ethically sourced directly from Ametista do Sul, Brazil—renowned for producing some of the world's finest Amethyst—this specimen brings peace of mind along with exceptional beauty. This high-quality Amethyst geode is sure to become a treasured highlight in your collection or decor. Please view the photos for additional details, and feel free to message us with any questions or special requests. 🤍 ▫️ Amethyst Cathedral Geode...

Earthly Treasures No 27, an Elm Cornish Turquoise Sculpture by Morrison Thomas
Located in London, GB
‘Earthly Treasures No 27’ is a unique sculptural bowl by the British artist, Morrison Thomas. It is made from burred English Elm inlaid with Cornish Turquoise. Morrison turns beautiful wooden spheres from damaged or diseased trees that have been felled as they can no longer survive. Using aged wood such as this, reveals cracks and crevices which the artist can inlay with precious minerals. The results are breathtaking. These take on the role of globes and are evocative of old maps. The minerals suggest undiscovered islands and continents. During Thomas’ time as a designer and maker of furniture it was usual practice to mask and hide any blemishes or cracks in the wood, however much like the Japanese art of Kintsugi (where ceramic breakages are repaired with gold and precious metals) Thomas highlights the anomalies in the wood by inlaying them with naturally formed colorful minerals, many taken from his personal collection which he still adds to. Recent visits to the ‘World Famous’ Blue John Mine and also a working Fluorspar mine in Derbyshire has meant new materials for future inlays. With the wood hard to find and unpredictable to turn, the resulting union of the Earth’s natural resources are patiently and skilfully jigsawed together, resulting in truly unique treasure-laden artworks. Is his own words: ‘The two mediums I combine both come directly from the Earth. The trees form and grow at the surface whilst the minerals can form at great depth. It is not unknown for some trees to have accumulated pieces of crystals in their roots. The thought of this combination of a substance formed during explosive episodes in the Earth millions of years ago with a gently formed living substance, which may have been growing for hundreds of years before finally coming to an end, is both exhilarating and intriguing. I think of it as a fusion between animate and inanimate, above and below the ground, naturally both beautiful, and without which, we as humans could not survive’ Morrison Thomas was born at New Inn Cottage in the tiny village of Charlton near Banbury, Oxfordshire. His father was a cabinet maker carpenter who was also a wheelwright and blacksmith, as with many village craftsman of the time, he was skilled in all things. Keeping the family tradition, Thomas continued in his father’s footsteps and is a fourth generation woodworker. As a furniture designer maker Thomas has exhibited his work in numerous high profile galleries and undertaken many prestigious commissions. He has written articles on woodworking with his work appearing in numerous publications. Previously the chairman of the Surrey Guild of Craftsmen and with a listing in Debrett’s Who’s Who, his achievements are many, especially in consideration that he received no formal training, with his skills obtained from observing and listening to his father. For many years Thomas designed and made contemporary furniture but mainly due to health reasons stopped making larger-scale works. With woodworking in his blood and a material he simply couldn’t stop creating with, he resumed his creative skills some years later by making unique hand-turned wooden vessels...

Antique, New and Vintage Natural Specimens

Natural specimens turn things found in nature, such as rocks, crystals and timber, into art. Sometimes these specimens are hand-carved into sculptures. Other times, antique, new and vintage natural specimens themselves are best displayed in their most untouched state. These pieces range from Victorian-era objects to modern-day designs and include everything from sculptures made from animal horns to works in wood, either as sculptures or merely imposing and provocative chunks of driftwood.

Natural specimens serve as compelling decor in any collection or home. Just as any curious decorative object, such as an ancient scientific instrument or taxidermy mount, will draw attention to your carefully curated home library or mantel, natural specimens can spark interesting discussions about life and art. Whether it’s a piece of ancient pottery formed from natural clay, plants sculpted from metal, sculptures of animals or antique stone, they grant a window into all of nature’s wonders.

Natural specimen sculptures can complement many aesthetics. A rare geode makes a stunning centerpiece in a study or living room. Crystals and rock crystal spheres carved in the 1970s add a sense of etherealness and quiet beauty to any space.

Whatever your taste, the selection of antique, new and vintage natural specimens on 1stDibs includes precisely the right piece for your space.
