Turkana Girl - Bronze African Sculpture
By Heinrich Filter Bronze Art
Located in Pretoria, Gauteng
Bronze sculpture of young girl from Kenya's Turkana tribe in traditional attire and characteristic hairdo. The Turkana tribe, nomadic by nature, are a Nilotic people native to the Turkana District in northwest Kenya, a semi-arid climate region bordering Lake Turkana in the east. My art is inspired by Africa and it’s magnificent wildlife and people. Seeing tribe people’s silhouettes in the blistering summer haze enthused me to branch out into human figurative sculpture. Turkana Girl - Bronze sculpture. Limited Edition of 24. Sculpture Height 65 cm including Sandstone base of approx 17 x 15 x 4 cm. Each piece of bronze art is handcrafted by myself from beginning to end - sculpting, casting in my own foundry and finished individually by hand with it's own unique patina. Patinas may vary slightly. This is edition 1 of 24 and ready for delivery. After this each edition is made on order so will be ready for shipping from South Africa approx 4 to 6 weeks after receipt of order. I am a self-taught South African artist whose work is inspired by Africa’s wildlife, landscapes, and people. My years as a safari guide gave me an intimate connection to the bush — a place that taught me everything I know about shape, form, and movement. You can’t sculpt what you don’t feel, and every moment spent observing wildlife offers a lesson in balance, grace, and presence. I am drawn to bronze — an ancient material with a living surface that changes, deepens, and gains character over time, much like the landscapes and creatures that inspire me. Each patina adds its own mood and individuality, ensuring every piece carries its own quiet story. My work ranges from bird, wildlife, figurative, abstract to African sculpture...
