A brass bound Anglo-Indian teak Decanter Box for 4 bottles
Located in London, GB
A brass bound Anglo-Indian teak Decanter Box for 4 bottles. The Box is well made with both brass edging and straps screwed on. To the sides are skeletal campaign handles and the escutcheon is a diamond shape. The box has a key. The interior has dividers to separate the 4 replaced decanters but is not lined in a cushioning material such as velvet or leather as most English boxes are. The top of the box has an engraved brass plate noting the owner as ‘Wm Durrant’. There were a few William Durrants in India in the first half of the 19th century with not enough evidence to pick one as prime candidate for the owner of the box. Most decanter boxes used by officers or travellers are British or European and it is uncommon to find one made in India or to see one in teak. Early to mid 19th Century. A carved soapstone Raj period Indian study of elephants and two Maharajas C1910
Located in Central England, GB
A fine Indian Raj period carved soapstone study of a large elephant carrying two Maharajas and their guide seated high on its back in an elaborate carriage surrounded by a group of young elephants. This superb carving shows great skill from the highly proficient craftsman who has deeply carved and pierced the study with three dimensional detailing. And just to make his work more difficult the body of the large elephant is hollow carved and pierced with a small perfectly carved study of another elephant at its centre which is incredibly difficult to achieve working through the tight delicately carved and pierced scrolls which form its body. Indian, circa 1910 Height 21cm x width 11cm x depth 9cm Thank you for looking at this unusual hand carved soapstone elephant...

Kashmiri Mughal Bird Copper Ewer, Mid 19th Century
Located in Islamabad, PK
This exquisite piece of art seamlessly combines the intricate aesthetics of Mughal design with the skilled craftsmanship of Kashmiri artisans, resulting in a stunning and unique creation. The copper ewer takes the form of a bird, with its body forming the main body of the vessel and its neck serving as the spout. The bird's wings, tail feathers, and even subtle details like beak and eyes are meticulously rendered, showcasing the artisan's attention to detail. The entire form of the ewer is fluid and elegant, capturing the essence of avian grace. The surface of the copper ewer is adorned with elaborate Mughal-inspired engravings and embellishments. Floral patterns, intricate vines, and delicate geometric designs cover the bird-shaped body, creating a visually rich tapestry of artistry. The Mughal influence is evident in the precision of the decorative elements, reflecting the era's emphasis on fine craftsmanship and aesthetic sophistication. The handle of the ewer, perhaps formed as a continuation of the bird's body or as a separate element, is designed for both functionality and artistic harmony. It complements the overall form, allowing for easy pouring while maintaining the cohesive avian aesthetic. Such a Bird-shaped Kashmiri Mughal Copper...
