This lidded container of earthenware features a green glaze, known as 'Shiwan Ware' from China's Shiwanzhen district near Guangdong. It was originally used as a tea dispenser hence the small hole on its lower front side. This exceptional antique German 800 standard silver box has a circular shaped form.
The jar is fitted with a push fit silver cover realistically modelled in the form of a stemmed apple.
The antique glass body of the jar has a subtly panelled form and is ornamented with cut glass decoration in a geometric design, in addition to a star cut motif to the underside.
The upper rim of the jar is fitted with a hallmarked silver mount.
The hallmarks struck to the surface of the antique silver mount include:
