Northwest Style: Interior Design and Architecture in the Pacific Northwest Hardc
Located in Moreno Valley, CA
Northwest Style: Interior Design and Architecture in the Pacific Northwest Hardcover Book. By Ann Wall Frank Chronicle Books, 1st edition,Oct 1, 1999 - Architecture - San Francisco, 204 pages. With its lush forests, rugged coast, and long rainy season, the Pacific Coast has spawned a style that is informal, organic, and above all eclectic. Northwest Style captures the spirit and diversity of this region's architecture, landscape, and lifestyle by presenting a collection of beautiful and distinctive homes in Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. Here, an overlapping of elements and architectural styles is common: A house designed as a tribute to nature makes use of an open floor plan and native materials—both significant elements of early regional Modernism; the decor of a chic urban loft reveals nuances of Japanese design. While the styles vary, a sensitivity to the environment and a desire to accentuate the natural beauty of the region lie at the heart of almost every design. Gorgeous color photographs show these dwellings in their natural settings and highlight architectural and decorative details. Full of inspiring ideas for architects, designers, and home decorators...

c1936 One-Hundred and Forty-Four Postcards of Military Uniforms
Located in Bath, GB
A fascinating collection of one-hundred and forty-four postcards of military uniforms, a number of which depict 1930s Germany. A total of one-hundred and forty-four twentieth century postcards, the majority depicting military uniform in England, France and Europe. A number of post cards, intriguingly, depict 1930s Munich and Potsdam. Sixteen envelopes holding images and postcards, and a further ten loosely inserted postcards. Housed in a signed morocco box with gilt detailing by W & J Milne of Princes St. Edinburgh. One envelope has the handwritten title ‘Postcards from Munich 1932’, and houses eleven postcards. Two of these present headshots of popular German actors Heinz Ruhmann and Gustav Frohlich, both of whom are dressed in military costume, and remained neutral in the Second World War. The remaining nine postcards depict images of a funeral procession of Prince Regent Leopold of Bavaria in October 1930 in Munich. Leopold was commander of the German and Austro-Hungarian forces during World War I. Further images depict Prince Rupprecht, Crown Prince of Bavaria, surrounded by military figures. The next envelope includes fifteen photographic postcards depicting Potsdam in the 1930s, and is captioned in ink to the front of the envelope with ‘Potsdam. September 1936’, and ‘Frederick William I’s Giant Guards’. Each post card is undated, but captioned. Three post cards depict military parades in Potsdam, and predate the Nazi regime, seven depict memorials the First World War, and one of the remaining postcards depict Prince August Wilhelm of Prussia. A further collection is ten colour post cards in the publisher’s original paper wraps, titled ‘Potsdams Stolzen Tagen’, or ‘Potsdam’s Proud Days’. It features ten colour illustrated postcards by artist Paul Pietsch, depicting the uniforms of Potsdam military positions between the late seventeenth and late nineteenth centuries. Collated, complete. Loosely inserted are ten colour illustrated post cards depicting the military uniform of the various regiments of the German army, illustrated by Carl Henckel, and covering the period of the First World War. Present here are depictions of the garb of the Gardes du Corps...

The Flag of the United States by Milo Milton Quaife, First Edition, 1942
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Quaife, Milo Milton. The Flag of the United States. New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1942. First edition. Octavo. Rebound in ¼ leather and cloth boards, with raised bands and gilt embossed titles to the spine. Illustrated. Presented with a matching archival slipcase. Presented is a first edition printing of The Flag of the United States by Milo Milton Quaife. The book was published in New York by Grosset & Dunlap in 1942. It is presented here rebound in ¼ leather and cloth boards, with raised bands and gilt titles to the spine, and a matching archival slipcase. Quaife wrote The Flag of the United States in order to present “the true and authentic history of the United States.” Wading through the myths and stories surrounding the flag, he details the origins and evolution of the American flag, using careful research to determine fact from fiction. There are several chapters on the early flags of Spain, France, and Holland in America and Quaife traces the development of the American flag from its English predecessor. He articulates the twenty-nine word resolution of the Second Continental Congress that made the flag of the United States, then outlines the changes to the flag’s design made in 1795, 1818, and 1912. He has a chapter on Civil War flags, a chapter on flags of the Army, and several debunking the many myths surrounding the American flag. This book was very well received upon its publication. “Quaife is entitled to a good deal of praise for having written a straightforward, and very readable, history of our flag” (Ralph W. Steen, Southwestern Historical Quarterly, 1943). “To read this history of our flag is to read the history of these United States, not only in the years when we became an infant nation, but also in those later years variously devoted to territorial expansion, extending our commerce, and fighting other wars.” (Ardelia Olden Koch, Wisconsin Magazine of History, 1943). Milo Milton Quaife (1880–1959) was a historian and writer, born in Nashua, Iowa. He received his education at Grinnell College, the University of Missouri, and the University of Chicago. Quaife was a published historian of the Great Lakes region, the Mississippi River valley, the Gold Rush, and President Polk...

EMILIO. PUCCI Fashion Story by Armando Chitolina Edition and Vanessa Friedman Tashen 2010. "Limited Edition of 10,000 Copies. Each unique copy is bound with one of a selection of limited print fabrics from the Pucci collection". Taschen, 2010. Hardcover (clothbound). NO dust jacket. With many illustrations almost all in color. 448 pages. Text in English with summaries in German, French and English. This book is in excellent condition. The prince of prints: Pucci's vision and legacy Limited edition of 10,000 copies; each unique copy is bound with one of a selection of recent print fabrics from the Pucci collection. Pucci's vision and legacy Emilio Pucci (1914-1992) had a passion for women, a visionary sense of style, and an eye for color and design. With these talents he created a fashion house unlike any other. By the early '50s his boutique on the isle of Capri was catering to wealthy sophisticates, heiresses and movie stars buying his "Capri pants," silk scarves and lightweight separates. By the end of the decade, Jacqueline Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe were wearing his dresses, and by the mid-60s the label was synonymous with the gilded lifestyle of an international jetset. Today, the house remains as vibrant as ever - Victoria Beckham, Elizabeth Hurley, and Kylie Minogue are adherents. The Pucci story is a modern epic with its roots in renaissance Italy. Dimensions ‏ : ‎ 14.50 H x 2.5 x 14.5 inches Page count: 448. Format: Hardcover. Publisher: Taschen. Languages: French, German, Italian. Author: Vanessa Friedman, Alessandra Arezzi Boza. Editor: Armando Chitolina. Emilio Pucci had a passion for women, a visionary sense of style, and an eye for color and design. With these talents, he created a fashion house unlike any other. By the end of the decade, Jacqueline Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe were wearing his dresses, and by the mid-’60s, the label was synonymous with the gilded lifestyle of an international jetset. The Pucci story is a modern epic with its roots in renaissance Italy: the brand’s founder, the Marchese Emilio Pucci di Barsento, was a charismatic aristocrat whose lineage extends back to the 15th century. It is a story of evolution: a family company that grew from one tiny store to an international brand. And finally, it is a tale of innovation: Pucci was one of the first brands to bear a logo, and a pioneer of diversification into interiors, athletic wear...

Antique and Vintage Books

Antique and vintage books add a sense of culture and style to any room. Displaying these types of books in your living room or reading nook can warm a space with a distinguished feel.

Several factors make antique books highly desirable. Original jackets, ornate binding, illustrations and quality of the print all contribute to making a vintage book special. Rare books are of great interest to collectors in the know and can command high prices at auction. In 2021, an important early artist book by Andy Warhol sold at auction for more than $106,000. Somewhere between all the commercial work he did as an ambitious young graphic designer in the early 1950s and his first real debut as a Pop artist a decade later, Warhol produced a trove of incredibly charming drawings. His illustrated self-published artist books from the 1950s are very rare.

Many collectors seek the first edition of certain books. Fewer copies of a book and higher demand make it a rare find. A book that contains the author’s signature also makes it much more prized than other examples of the same title.

Collectors and designers decorate rooms with vintage books for a cozy feeling in a home. Coffee-table books, such as those featuring photography and design, serve as conversation pieces or offer a relaxing moment when leafed through.

Interior designers look for vintage books when they want to add color or detail. For instance, leather-bound books can create a scholarly air while mid-century titles offer a modern edge. Vintage international books or first editions can provide a sense of history.
