Period: Early 19th Century
Antique Poetry Book, Pleasures of Memory, Samuel Rogers, English, Georgian, 1803
Located in Hele, Devon, GB
This is an antique copy of Pleasures of Memory by Samuel Rogers. An English, hard bound collection of poetry, published in London in the Georgian period, 1803. A contemporary of Wordsworth, Byron and other Romantic poets, Samuel Rogers (1763 - 1855) was a successful banker and art collector, who was also one of England's most celebrated poets during his lifetime. Rogers was invited to be Poet Laureate on the occasion of Wordsworth's death 1850, but declined due to his age. Considered one of the great sources of social documentary of London's artistic and literary world of the 18th and early 19th century, he lived to the age of 92 - astonishing for the era. Presents a good, time-worn antique condition, with pages intact and clean Hard bound with marble paper cover and gold titling to ribbed spine Published in English across 187 pages in London by T. Bensley of Fleet Street Illustrated engraving plates throughout add visual interest to the poetry Includes the titular poems in part 1 & 2, The Two Sisters...
