A Gothic Revival reliquary. Circa late 19th / early 20th century. Made of solid oak with fine carving.
Reliquaries have been used to store relics since the Middle Ages. In sacred architecture they are often located behind the main altar in the chancel. In addition to classical, often church-like caskets, anthropomorphic, so-called "speaking" reliquaries were also made, which already inform the viewer about their contents through their own design. Mostly they were made of precious metals and decorated with rich sculptural ornaments or precious stones. One of the most famous examples of reliquaries is the Epiphany shrine of Nicholas of Verdun from the late 12th or early 13th century in Cologne Cathedral.
The reliquary offered here has an architectural structure with a rectangular ground plan. The three-sided glazed box with a dormer roof rests on a plinth.

"Few artists influenced the direction of early 20th century decorative design more than René Jules Lalique. Lalique was born in the small village of Ay in northern France in 1860, but moved with his family to Paris at the age of two.
"Like many talented artists that emerged from Paris during the early 20th century, Lalique thrived in the creative epicenter of the European world, attending Collège Turgot, a premier Parisian school of the arts. After his father’s death in 1875, Lalique found employment apprenticing with jeweler Louis Aucoc, gaining experience that would lay the groundwork for his own mastery of the craft. This rare golden jug was created to serve wine during the Eucharistic celebration, the Christian liturgical practice. it is an Italian work of art that dates back to 1700, with a wonderful fire gilding, for collectors. In good age related condition regardless of a small dent in the middle part of the body, consistent with the eighteenth-century dating.
The cast handle takes up the motif of the volutes present on the body of the ewer. The spout is closed by a hinged lid with a small floral knob, with minimal deformations near the hinge compromising its perfect closure.

An 1899, Bluthner grand piano with a rosewood case, decorated with Art Nouveau and Empire style elements. It was showcased at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle. Piano bought by King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra in the Coronation year of 1902 to be situated in the ballroom of Malborough House. It was sold in 1936 to Major Maconochie in Bath. This piano is in great original condition having only had two previous owners. A rare opportunity to acquire a royal piano.
The piano cheek side panel is inlaid with an Art Nouveau design featuring a stylised female head surrounded by whiplash lines and foliage. Musical instruments sit centrally in the design.
