A very attractive example of Ortelius' map combining, on one page, maps of the islands of Sicily, Sardinia, Corfu, Elba, Malta and Zerbi (Jerba, off the coast of Tunisia.) The maps detail fortifications on the islands and other major features. (Jerba, for instance, is shown connected to the mainland by a causeway.) The waters are attractively engraved and are sailed by ships. A shipwreck, north of Malta, indicates the point at which St. Paul is thought to have shipwrecked. 17th Century Early Baroque Flemish Wood Carved Religious Figural Group
Located in Vero Beach, FL
This rare 17th century panel, carved in high relief, is museum quality and without doubt the work of an important Flemish master carver. It represents the biblical scene of Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem for the census. Multiple figures surround the center in a well balanced setting. Rich, deep color and great patina, which developed over about 400 years, make this piece of art exceptional. The panel is mounted on a later dusty rose velvet backing.
Condition: Small part of backdrop on right is missing. Joseph’s left hand is missing.

The book was Published by: Davidsfonds, Leuven, 2013. Accompanied by a personal note to Herbert Kasper from Thomas Leysen. Leysen was the Chairman of KBC Group between 2011-2020 and wrote the foreword to this book. The KBC, is a banking and insurance group with activities mainly in Belgium, Central Europe and Ireland. Herbert Kasper was an American fashion designer known as "Kasper." He studied English and advertising at New York University and fashion at The Parsons School of Design in New York from 1951–53 and l'Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne in 1953. He left NYU to serve in the US Army in Europe. After WW II he enrolled at Parsons, where he became a protégé of milliner Fred Frederics. After graduating, he returned to Paris for two years developing his skills in design while working for Jacques Fath, Christian Dior, and Marcel Rochas. When he returned to the US, he worked for Frederics at Mr. John. He was an avid art collector with a famous art collection, and in 2011, the Morgan Library and Museum devoted an exhibition, called “Mannerism and Modernism: The Kasper Collection of Drawings...

Artists and Engravers: Cornelius Hazart (1617-1690) was a Dutch Jesuit controversialist, orator, and writer of polemical history.
Saint Boniface I, (born, Rome—died Sept. 4, 422, Rome; feast day September 4), pope from 418 to 422, whose reign was markedly disrupted by the faction of the antipope Eulalius.
Boniface was a priest, believed to have been ordained by Pope St. Damasus I and to have served Pope St. Innocent I at Constantinople.
When Boniface was chosen pope by a majority of the Roman electors, his rival Eulalius, a deacon, was simultaneously chosen by a clerical faction. The two claims and the fifth schism that resulted caused chaos in Rome. Eulalius lost the support of the West Roman emperor Flavius Honorius for violating an agreement that both claimants leave Rome pending a council’s decision.
Boniface’s reentry into Rome ended the 15-week schism. Thereafter his pontificate was noted for his peaceful, yet firm, diplomacy and for his zealous support of Bishop St. Augustine of Hippo...
