Ararat Rugs Carpet with Two Medallions 18th Century Revival Rug Natural Dyed
Located in Tokyo, JP
This is a dual medallion as the main element of the design of 18th-century carpet from the Konya region, Central Anatolia area of Turkey. Rugs of this type, using two medallions, appear frequently in 15th-century paintings of both the Venetian and the Flemish schools. This pattern tradition survived into the 18th and even into the 19th century in Anatolian village rugs of which this is an exceptionally powerful example. The two octagons that fill almost all of the field enclose a small octagon in the center from which radiate rectangular panels in a star-like fashion, filled with “latch-hook” patterns. Typical two medallions central octagon carpets...

Antique Malatya Kilim South Anatolia Rug Turkish Natural Carpet
Located in Tokyo, JP
This is a Southern Anatolian Antique Kilim from the Malatya region with a rare and beautiful color composition. Malatya is a town built on one main street that continues for a number of miles. It is situated in the Tohmasuyu River basin which is encircled by the high peaks of the eastern Taurus Mountains. This is a fertile agricultural region, particularly for apricots, and has been a prolific weaving area for many years. The modern town was established in 1838; old Malatya, which is close by, was once an important city in Armenia Minor. In Roman times it was important as a garrison town on the eastern frontier, and the settlement came under Ottoman rule in the early fifteenth century. Considering the number of kilims woven in this region there is a surprising lack of diversity in design, especially in the larger kilims; this is possibly a direct result of the Kurdish tribal tradition of weaving only one type of design. Small prayer rugs...

Ararat Rugs Konagkend Shirvan Rug Antique Caucasian Revival Carpet Natural Dyed
Located in Tokyo, JP
The source of the rug comes from the book How to Read - Islamic Carpets, Walter B. Denny, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York 2014 fig.87. This is a domestic carpet, village, and nomadic weaving in the late 19th century in the Shirvan region, Caucasus. There are three principal designs for rugs attributed to Konagkend ( Konakkent or Konakhend ). The first has a large cruciform medallion, the second, called by Kerimov and Schürmann ‘Ordutch-Konagkend’, has a series of large octagons, and the third, and probably best known, has a stiff, angular lattice based on hexagonal forms. Each type has a quite different aesthetic appeal and in each case, the design is reminiscent of other rugs. The cruciform medallion type usually has a bright, light palette and in both color and design is reminiscent of Kurdish weavings and certain Turkish village rugs. The ‘Ordutch-Konagkend’ pieces have strong affinities with Baku and other north Shirvan rugs, and the lattice type is the closest to the concept of design most normally associated with Kuba as well as having links with earlier groups of, principally Turkish, carpets. This is an example of nomadic and village weaving often attaining a level of great artistry, exhibiting an almost breathtaking command of technique along with a marvelous sense of color, proportion, and artistic balance...

Ararat Rugs Chessboard Carpet Mamlouk Checkerboard Rug Antique Mamluk Revival
Located in Tokyo, JP
This hand-knotted rug is a bold reinterpretation of the historic Mamluk “chessboard” layout—an architectural field design built from a grid of repeated octagonal star motifs. Unlike classical Mamluk rugs, which often featured deep crimson and emerald tones, this version introduces an earthy and luminous palette of ochre gold, teal green, soft ivory, and sky blue. The result is a brighter, more contemporary vision of a centuries-old form. The source of carpet comes from the book Islamic Carpets, Joseph V. McMullan, Near Eastern Art Research Center Inc., New York 1965 nr.28. The field of the so-called "Chessboard" Carpet ( so-called Checkerboard Rug...

Pure Silk Rugs, Metallic Pictorial Turkish Rugs, Hereke Handmade Carpet
Located in Wembley, GB
This Oriental rug for sale was woven in Asian Anatolia, Turkey in the historic city of Hereke. In the mid-19th century, Sultan Abdul Majid proclaimed Hereke to be the royal weaving village. The small rugs were woven there were considered the finest in the world. All examples of this woven rug used select Borsa silk which is the finest quality carpet silk. The Sultan required that all of the silk rugs woven in Hereke had to be signed with the name Hereke. These oriental rugs were regularly woven for the aristocracy in Europe, Asia, and The Middle East. The design of this luxury rugs is unique because it is an interpretation of the famous 17th century Mughal carpet from India. The Mughal carpet was exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum and was illustrated in the book called Flowers Under Foot, published by the Museum. The gold rug has 1200 knots per square inch, and the entire field is woven of silver/metallic thread. Large Vintage Rugs, Red All Over Carpet, Wool Living Room Rugs for Sale
Located in Wembley, GB
Faithful to the style of many stunning Turkish large rugs, this Oriental rug masterpiece, which features an antique rugs design. The floral rug combines vibrant colours with elegantly flowing floral motifs to create a sophisticated surface that can add impeccable style and grace to any environment. Rich gold, sage green, earthy khaki and gentle red all come together to create a warm and regal colour palette of this red rug. Though the colours are chosen to convey a sunny setting, there is nonetheless enough soft contrast to create several points of interest between the borders and the activity at the heart of the antique woven rug itself. The dancing leaves and petals are spaced out in a series of original arrangements on the handmade carpet, resulting in an attractive collection of motifs that seem to have been strewn about by the wind. This candid scene conveys an almost intimate degree of secrecy as if the viewer has stumbled upon a rare sight in the natural world. These extra-large rugs look beautiful and would stand out as large living room rugs and large bedroom rugs. These washable rugs are one of a kind and cannot be found in every rug warehouse or rug store. Large vintage rugs...
