Antique English 18th Century Early Georgian Dish Top Bird Cage Tripod Table
Located in Glasgow, GB
A handsome 18th century early Georgian mahogany tripod tea table with a dish top. It features a solid figured mahogany circular tilt-top with single reeded line to the outer curved edge, with a bird cage mechanism to a turned baluster shaped column raised on outswept cabriole legs with pad feet. Retaining a good original colour and patination and original brass catch.
This is a better quality example of its type being moderately larger, the top being from a single piece of mahogany and having the slight lip to the outer edge, due to the dish top, and curved underedge, in addition the birdcage mechanism lets the top rotate without lifting the entire table. The tilt-top allows the table to be displayed at the side of the room when not in use (and the birdcage also means the top can be faced out with the legs arranged pointing into a corner, or flat against a wall). This is a typically plain and robust George II example dating to c.1730-1750.
The overall dimensions at the largest points are approximately
Width - 33.865in (86cm)
Depth - 33.75in (85.5cm)
Height - 28.75 (73cm)
The top can be separated from the base by removal of a wedge in the birdcage.
Note:
The tripod table (or ‘pillar and claw...

English Sterling Silver Georgian 1760 Cup from Former Gov. of NY Stock Exchange
Located in New York, NY
English sterling silver cup from 1760 in Georgian style by a London-based silversmith. It comes from the collection of W. Allston Flagg. It measures 4'' in diameter by 2 1/2'' in height, weighs 4.9 ozt, and bears hallmarks as shown.
According to his 1971 obituary from the New York Times, "W. Allston Flagg, an investment banker and former governor of the New York Stock Exchange, was a collateral descendant, and namesake of Washington Allston, the early 19th-century American painter. His studies at Harvard were interrupted by Navy service in World War I as a submarine chaser commander. He returned to active duty as a lieutenant commander in World War II.
Mr. Flagg succeeded his father, Washington A. Flagg, as a partner in the brokerage firm of Post & Flagg and continued as a partner in Harris, Upham & Co. after their merger. He was a past president of the Piping Rock Club in Locust Valley...

Fine and Rare George II Mahogany Galleried Octagonal Table
Located in Lymington, GB
This fine, larger than usual, George ll-period table has a baluster-galleried octagonal top supported on a birdcage, allowing the top to both swivel and tilt. Note the fine, tapering, fluted column continuing into a carved collar. The well-drawn cabriole tripod base is foliate-carved at the knees and toes.
Of lovely old colour and patina throughout and in original condition. The spindle gallery has a rare and original feature of elegant brass 'spacers' with slightly protruding brass studs. Note the one-piece, beautifully-figured top.
Vis. A similar tripod table from the Percival Griffiths Collection is illustrated in R. W. Symonds 'English Furniture from Charles ll to George ll' (1929) fig. 152.
Another was sold from the Frederick Howard Reed Collection by Christies on 16th November 1955.
