Pair of French 19th-20th Century Neoclassical Style Cast Iron Figural Torchères
Located in Los Angeles, CA
A very fine pair of French 19th-20th century neoclassical style patinated cast iron figural torchères by A. Durenne, Paris, each representing a figure of a standing young maiden, her arms raised forward while holding a a flaming urn gas light (Now electrified) with a frosted glass flame, each raised on a veined grey marble column stand, both cast-signed 'A. Durenne, Paris'. Antoine Durenne was an internationally renowned French art founder. He attended École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in 1842. Durenne purchased a small foundry in Sommevoire, near the Val d'Osne, Haute-Marne, France and established The Durenne firm, circa Paris, 1900. Cast-iron had been in production during the 18th century but its inferior status to the more fashionable and delicate wrought iron had generally confined its use to architectural work. By the early 19th century, however, rapid developments of the Industrial Revolution combined with the simultaneous burgeoning of a new middle class provided the impetus for a dramatic Expansion in its application and in a short space of time a proliferation of iron foundries across Europe and America thrived on the production of everything from inkstands to railway stations. The use of cast-iron for garden ornament became particularly widespread at this time, as the possibilities for its mass-production at a fraction of the cost of bronze made it the material of choice for outdoor statuary...

19th Century French Henri II Neoclassical Walnut Confiturier, Cabinet
Located in Dallas, TX
19th century French Henri II neoclassical walnut confiturier, cabinet is a stellar example of the petite buffet with one door affectionately called the confiturier because of its original design being intended to store confit jars in the kitchen. At some point it became obvious that a very useful miniature buffet like this would be ideal for other rooms, and the genre blossomed. This example, rendered from sumptuous French walnut, features neoclassical architecture including turned columns carved with fletching on the face fitted with Doric capitals on each cornerpost, flanking the stylized pyramidal heraldic crest on display in full relief at the center of the cabinet door. Fletching also appears on the drawer facade above, with the entire affair graced with fine molded detail. Ideal as a bathroom vanity cabinet...

Life Size Carved Wood Neoclassical Cherub or Putti Torcheres Floor Lamps
Located in Swedesboro, NJ
A Superb Pair of 1950s Italian Carved Cherub Torchières in Antique White Finish This magnificent pair of mid-century Italian torchières presents an enchanting blend of Baroque revival elegance and 1950s craftsmanship. Each sculptural lamp features a beautifully carved putto—also known as a cherub—poised in a graceful, twisting stance and holding aloft a multi-arm candelabra-style light fixture. Finished in an antique white patina with soft, hand-rubbed aging, these tall torchières embody the romantic spirit and classical artistry for which Italian decorative arts are celebrated. Standing on intricately molded pedestal bases with volute scrollwork and acanthus leaf carving, the figures exhibit exceptional sculptural detail: flowing drapery, delicately modeled features, and expressive movement that recalls the grand decorative traditions of the 18th century. The gilt-accented metal candelabra tops add a warm contrast, bringing an added note of luxury while enhancing the vertical silhouette. Crafted in Italy during the 1950s, this pair offers the perfect balance of theatrical presence and refined neoclassical charm. Their impressive scale makes them ideal statement pieces for entry halls, formal living rooms, grand staircases, boutique hotels, or luxury retail interiors. Whether incorporated into a traditional European décor scheme or used as dramatic focal points in an eclectic or Hollywood Regency setting, these torchières have the presence to elevate any environment. Measures 85 inches tall x 19 x 19 wide. Italian torchières, putti torch stands, cherub floor lamps...

20th century limed terracotta statue "Ragazza che protegge il suo cucciolo dal serpente" Girl Protecting Her Puppy From a Snake after Odoardo Fantacchiotti (1809-1877), supported by a square-form limed terracotta pedestal. This work evokes a great deal of tenderness from the viewer. The girl, dressed in drapery that seems to want to slip off her body at any moment, holds in her arms a frightened puppy seeking protection. The young girl's melancholy gaze and the little dog's frightened gaze are turned towards the snake which, at the height of her feet, raises its threatening head. Pedestal 30...
