A fantastic antique Victorian mahogany and gilded twin pedestal dining table bearing the impressed mark of the renowned cabinet makers and retailers Wylie & Lochhead, and circa 1850 in date.
The oval shaped table is made from solid mahogany and has four leaves which can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion by a special winding mechanism.
It is raised on a pair of beautifully carved and gilded pedestal bases with downswept legs terminating in scroll feet and the original brass and porcelain recessed castors.

In 1829 Wylie & Lochhead was started by cabinetmakers Robert Wylie and William Lochhead and they quickly became very successful with with a string of workshops, showrooms and warehouses in Glasgow employing over 1700 workers. This beautiful piece of furniture has been made with artistic marquetry requiring the highest level of craftsmanship. The surface of the table top of this antique ormolu mounted bureau plat features very intricate floral marquetry decoration. Using a number of different and exotic veneers which include walnut, goncalo alves, satinwood, burr walnut, and purpleheart, the level of detail present here can only be described as extraordinary. The central panel is worthy of particular attention, it being inlaid with a representation of an urn on a flower filled satinwood background together with a decorative border of foliage which has been rendered in mahogany and burr walnut.

This is a beautiful antique Victorian flame mahogany and satinwood crossbanded pedestal partners desk, circa 1860 in date.
The rectanglular top is satinwood crosbanded and inset with a stunning gold tooled green leather writing surface. One side of the desk is fitted with nine drawers, three drawers in the frieze and three drawers in each pedestal. The other side of the desk has three drawers in the frieze with a cupboard to each pedestal, each cupbpard is fitted with a central shelf.
The drawers are all fitted withbeautiful brass drop handles, the desk is complete with the original brass locks and key, and is raised on plinth bases.

Rare pair of round table made of patinated and gilded bronze with a top veneered with malachite and circled with bronze mounts adorned with ovum and beads. They stands on three patinated bronze feet with lion heads and paws, linked with gilded bronze X braces.
Related Works:
The feet of these gueridons adopt a sleek design and are adorned with claws and lion heads. Inspired by a well-known model in the Barbedienne Company production and it has been reused many times by his workshop. These gueridons shows how the Barbedienne Company offered a range of furniture from the designs of its decorator Louis-Constant Sévin. He designed this model of gueridon few time after he joined the Barbedienne Company in 1855 and this model can be seen on different interior decorations of the Second Empire.
A tripod gueridon with feet like these ones can be seen on a picture showing the cold room of the Pompeiian house built for Prince Napoleon. (see picture attached, photograph by Laplanche J et Cie, between 1860-1866, Musée Carnavalet, Paris, PH15305). Most of the Ancient style furniture was made by Charles Rossigneux (1818-1908) but this gueridon shows that the Barbedienne Company took also part to this work.
Biography:
Henri Picard was established in Paris, 6 rue Jarente from 1831 to 1839 and then 10 rue de la Perle from 1840 to 1864. He worked on the Emperor Napoleon III’s apartments gilding at the Louvre Palace. His production was in a rich and fine style, like a Japanese style inkwell, or his Pompeian style dining table centerpieces...
