This magnificent handwoven wool and silk wall hanging envisions the marriage of the New Testament figures, Mary and Joseph, with the High Priest flanked by Mary and Joseph at center and a dove above them, and with the central figures attended by a noblewoman and a group of men, and with a mother and child seated in the right foreground.
The central scene is enclosed within a border that is characterized by upper and lower central cartouches, supported by putti. It contains a star above, and the armorial of Pierre Guischard below. Six additional cartouches containing the symbols of the Evangelists run through the rest of the border, interspersed with fruiting and flowering elements, decorative swags, and birds.

Rare Five Japanese Signed Oshi-E Textile Art Panels Meiji Period

On offer is a set of five Japanese textile art panels called Oshi-E circa Meiji Period (1868-1912). This unusual set of panels depict various aspects of daily life in Edo time with beautiful details. Some of these panels are snapshots of the buzzling commercial activities at the marketplace, providing insight into the signages, architecture, costumes and how people interacted within a historical and pictorial context. Other panels depict daily leisure activities such as lounging in the park or visiting friends. The realistic rendering and attention to details are not short of "photographic" quality. From the signage of the shops to the motions and attires of the individual characters, from the hairstyle, small ornaments, down to the facial expression, were all recorded in great details. Each panel was signed with the artist's name Yukihana in Kanji with a red seal.
These panels are unframed and await your custom touch (framing with inner gilt spacer and mat costs about 250-500 depending on the material chosen, see a framed example in the last picture of a single framed panel we have for sale). We offer them for sale individually, but it will be great for a collector to consider the whole set so that they can stay together.
The Oshi-E (also known as kiritori zaiku) is a type of ornamental textile art dated back to the Muromachi period (1392-1573). It started among the elite aristocratic women in Kyoto before spreading wider in the Japanese society. Throughout Edo and Meiji period, Oshi-E were sometimes used to make offerings to the altars in the temple and in the late 19th century, it was exported to the west along with the other embroidery textile art. A remarkable silk picture with painted sky background and each figure with a painted face and hands with the remaining portions of the picture finished in wool. The design comes from a mezzotint after John Hoppner made in the 1790s. John Hoppner specialized in painting mothers and children.
The picture depicts a large standing female figure dressed in a white dress and wearing a turban. She stands by two classical columns with her four children in front of her.

The frame has exhibition glass which refracts the light, its the reason the colours have stayed so vibrant
The condition is as you can see in the pictures which is sublime, it was complete by the hand of a master for sure, the frame has some small losses but otherwise its exquisite

DETAILS OF THE ORIGINALS WORKS
The Three Marys at the Tomb, The Three Marys or The Pious Women at Christ's Tomb is a 1598 oil-on-canvas painting by the Italian Baroque artist Annibale Carracci, now in the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, which acquired it in 1836.
The painting was commissioned by Lelio Pasqualini (1549–1611), a native of Bologna then resident in Rome, where he was a canon at Santa Maria Maggiore. Its unusual composition may be linked to Pasqualini's antiquarian interests – he owned one of the most notable collections of the time. It is one of the best examples of Annibale's synthesis of the artists then active in Rome, as also seen in The Loves of the Gods frescoes around 1600 In this work we specifically see the influence of classical sculpture and Raphael, particularly the latter's cartoons for the Vatican tapestries. It is typical of Annibale's style in Rome but still linked to his early style – Mary Magdalene's red and gold dress...
