Presented is an original movie poster for Warner Brothers 1983 film, “The Right Stuff.” Tom Jung designed this one-sheet poster, which features profile illustrations of the seven test pilots, set against a starry sky, and a singular pilot emerging from a wrecked test. The movie’s title, “The Right Stuff,” and catch-phrase, “How the future began,” are printed at bottom center. A collectible piece of movie history, this poster is made even more desirable with the addition of test-pilot Chuck Yeager’s signature on the poster at middle left. In 1972, journalist Tom Wolfe covered the launch of the final Moon mission, Apollo 17, for Rolling Stone. He wrote a four-part article about the astronauts for the magazine, entitled “Post-Orbital Remorse,” which appeared in Rolling Stone throughout 1973. After his piece was completed, Wolfe was still curious about the emotional and psychological bravery required to rocket into space, and so he began researching a broader history of the United States’ human spaceflight program. Throughout much of the 1970s, Wolfe worked on the research and writing for his book, The Right Stuff. In his foreword, Wolfe notes that as late as 1970, almost one in four career Navy pilots died in accidents. "The Right Stuff," he explains, "became a story of why men were willing--willing?--delighted!--to take on such odds in this, an era literary people had long since characterized as the age of the anti-hero." Focusing on the earliest American human spaceflights of Project Mercury and writing 15 years after the events themselves, Wolfe had the benefit of hindsight, archives, and first-hand recollections to help him answer that question. Wolfe interviewed test pilots, the astronauts, and their wives, among other experts in the field of space, flight, and psychology. The book was well received by critics upon publication in 1979. It was hailed as “one of the most romantic and thrilling books ever written about men who put themselves in peril." (The Boston Globe). It was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, and won the National Book Award for Nonfiction. This success prompted the development and creation of the Warner Brothers film, of the same title. Written and directed by Philip Kaufman, the 1983 film chronicles the first 15 years of America’s space program. Similar to Wolfe’s book, the movie follows the Mercury Seven test pilots closely, humanizing the professional and personal trials, tribulations, stressors, and pressure each faced. The film starred Sam Shepard, Ed Harris, Scott Glenn, Fred Ward, Dennis Quaid, Barbara Hershey and Kim Stanley. It was narrated by Levon Helm...

Jean-Michel Folon (1 March 1934 – 20 October 2005) was a Belgian artist, illustrator, painter, and sculptor The first exhibition of his watercolors was in New York in 1969 in the Lefebre Gallery. One year later he exhibited in Tokyo and in the Il Milione gallery in Milan. He also participated in the XXVth Venice Biennale. In 1973 he joined the selection of Belgian artists in the XXVth São Paulo Biennale, where he was granted the Grand Prize in Painting. Over the years his work concentrated on different techniques, including watercolor, etching, silkscreen, illustrations, mosaics, and stained glass, which showed the diversity of his art. Original Vintage Poster, 'Musee Peynet et du Dessin humoristique' Raymond Peynet Raymond Peynet was a French artist and illustrator. Peynet was known for his illustrations of couples, specifically, couples in love. Peynet was born in Paris in 1908 , he began drawing at a young age. He studied at the École Estienne and the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, this is where he developed his distinctive style. Peynet's style was characterised by delicate lines and slender characters. In 1930, Peynet began working for the weekly magazine "Le Rire," where he published his first illustrations of love couples. These images quickly gained attention from the public and became very popular, leading Peynet to publish a collection of these illustrations titled "Les Amoureux de Peynet...

He began painting and writing in 1947 in Madrid while suffering from tuberculosis, having already been confined to his bed for five years. In his beginnings he created numerous drawings and paintings with a dreamlike surrealist character that most often represented imaginary landscapes, employing a flat smooth treatment that offers a rich palette of colors. He claimed Hans Arp and Yves Tanguy as his artistic influences. He stayed in Paris in 1952 and in 1954–1955 during which he met Benjamin Péret and associated with the Surrealists, although he soon parted with the group, joining instead the company of his friend the painter Simon Hantaï. Using the technique of scraping, he adopted a gestural style and created an abstract type of painting, still very colorful with an organic, aleatory design. The first appearances in his work of forms that will soon become archetypes of the female body or the human figure occur in the mid-1950s. Starting in 1956 Saura tackled the register of what will prove to be his greatest works: women, nudes, self-portraits, shrouds and crucifixions, which he painted on both canvas and paper. In 1957 in Madrid he founded the El Paso Group and served as its director until it broke up in 1960. During this period Saura met Michel Tapié. During the 1950s he had his first solo exhibition at the Rodolphe Stadler Gallery in Paris, where he regularly exhibited throughout his life. Stadler introduced him to Otto van de Loo in Munich and Pierre Matisse in New York City, both of whom exhibited his work and represented him, and eventually his paintings were collected by major museums. Limiting his palette to blacks, grays and browns, Saura asserted a personal style that was independent of the movements and trends of his generation. His work followed in the tradition of Velasquez and Goya. Starting in 1959 he began creating a prolific body of works in print, illustrating numerous books including Cervantes's Don Quijote, Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four, Nöstlinger's adaptation of Pinocchio, Kafka’s Tagebücher, Quevedo’s Three Visions, and many others. In 1960 Saura began creating sculptures made of welded metal elements which represented the human figure, characters and crucifixions. In 1967 he settled permanently in Paris, and joined the opposition to Francoist Spain. In France he participated in numerous debates and controversies in the fields of politics, aesthetics and artistic creation. He also broadened his thematic and pictorial register.
