A large and extremely rare example of American bas relief sculpture, this bronze medal plated in gold was sculpted by Evelyn Beatrice Longman for the Loomis Athletic prize sponsored by the Loomis School in Windsor, Connecticut. Longman married the School's headmaster, Nathaniel Batch elder and moved to Windsor in 1920, which led to a series of commissions for monuments in Connecticut, including war memorials in Naugatuck and Hartford, and a bas relief frieze...
