This is a rare museum quality early Rose Cut Diamond Pendant dating to the Georgian Era set with an abundance of antique Rose Cut Diamonds set in silver atop 14 Karat gold as was the custom of the period. The pendant of great beauty and dating to the 1700s.
Diamonds were all the rage in the Georgian period and this is a wonderful example. Early pieces such as this are extremely difficult to find. This one is so immensely wearable as the size is just perfect for wearing either day or night. It has stunning period character and style.
The pendant is 68 mm (2 3/4 inches) long from the top of the bale to the bottom of the pendant. Without the bale it is 58 mm long. It is 45 mm (1 3/4 inches) wide at the widest point.
The rose cut diamonds are set in silver collets atop 14 Karat gold.
The gold bale is a later addition.
There has been some restoration of the pendant as is visible from the back - this is very typical of the early Georgian jewels...

To appreciate its size, the relief of the coin and the shape of the bail, see the picture showing the coin next to a US quarter. The coin was first set in a gold bezel, which was then hammered over the edge of both sides. This was then sanded and polished. This pendant is built to last.
Currently have three Athenian owls of varying quality, set in 18k gold. This is an excellent one. Note how thick these coins are. The pendant weighs about 20 grams (0.7 oz)

To appreciate the pendant's size (13 mm), the relief of the coin and the shape of the bail, see the picture showing the coin next to a US quarter (will post soon). The coin was first set in a sterling silver bezel, which was then hammered over the edge of both sides. This was then sanded and polished. This pendant is built to last.
