Antique Italian Papal 22K Gold Micro Mosaic Cross Pendant, 1850 - 1860s
Located in Braintree, GB
A rare and historically significant mid-19th century Italian cross pendant, meticulously crafted in 22 karat yellow gold and intricately decorated with fine micro mosaic work. Made in the Papal workshops of the Vatican, the pendant is stamped with the Vatican mark—denoting its origin from ecclesiastical ateliers under direct Papal patronage. The cross features a highly detailed micro mosaic scene at its centre, depicting two cherubic angel heads amid clouds, flanked by intricate star-pointed terminals adorned with Christian iconography and floral motifs. The craftsmanship is extraordinary, with thousands of minute tesserae forming vibrant patterns in rich blues, whites, and reds. A large, ridged gold bail with fine beading accommodates a substantial chain or cord. The reverse is closed with a protective glass compartment (original to the piece), likely intended for a relic or devotional image, preserving its devotional function. Specifications: Origin: Papal Workshops, Vatican Date: c.1850s–1860s Metal: 22K yellow gold (marked) Decoration: Hand-set glass micro mosaic...

18K Gold Early Victorian Diamond Trilogy Ring with Blue Enamel Details
Located in Venice, CA
This 18k gold early Victorian ring features three Old Mind Cut diamonds encased in blue enamel square details. The diamonds are housed in a square, carved out setting in the 18k gold that creates a gorgeous contrast against the navy blue. The center square is larger, with a punched out format that raises it a layer above the rest of the ring. The deep blue enamel creates a ribbonlike detail on each end of the design. The diamonds are bead set, which enhances their sparkle and gives the visual illusion that they are square-shaped. At a larger size of 10.5, this makes a great unisex ring, ideal for a man or a woman’s middle finger. The ring contains approximately 1/3 of a carat of natural antique diamonds. The center diamond is 3.5 mm, and two side diamonds are 2.5 mm. All three diamonds are Old Mine Cut with chunky shape and large culets. The diamonds are bright and lively, H-I in color, SL2 in clarity. The ring is marked with 18CT and the maker’s mark of “G.TS”. The center square is 3/8” wide and the band tapers down to 3/16” on the bottom. The ring weighs 6.3 grams. Ring size 10.5; due to the enamel, we do not recommend resizing. This could make a beautiful wedding band but is also perfect for anyone who wants a treasured piece of the past. We currently have a women’s ring in our collection that makes a beautiful counterpart to this ring and could make a matching pair of wedding rings. See our 15K Early Victorian Diamond and Blue Enamel Star Ring...

Saint Cecelia Chatelaine Pendant by Froment-Meurice, French, circa 1850
Located in London, GB
Saint Cecelia chatelaine pendant by Froment-Meurice. A gold and silver pendant in the Renaissance Revival style, the main element composed of an ornately carved openwork architectural structure in the form of an altarpiece, the central niche surmounted by a cupola set with pearls, with scroll and scalloped details to the interior and suspending a fleur-de-lis, containing a figure of Saint Cecelia playing a viola da gamba with two dancing putti to either side, flanked by two smaller raised pedestals issuing fleur-de-lis, each set with a putto (one playing a harp, the other playing a triangle), suspending a double swagged gold chain set with pearls, with two further chains suspending on one side a circular lapis lazuli seal in a trumpet form mount and on the other a watch winder, the whole accented with blue enamel and set to the reverse with a hinged band loop, approximately 9.5cm in total length. Tested yellow gold and silver, French, circa 1850. François Désiré Froment-Meurice (1802-1855) was one of the most important French jewellery and silversmiths of the nineteenth century, described by Victor Hugo as the Cellini of his age. He exhibited in a number of International Exhibitions, where Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were among his clients. The Renaissance Revival, as seen here, and the Gothic Revival were his two major decorative styles. This piece is also typical of his penchant for placing a silver figure, usually female, within a yellow gold architectural mount. The central figure and flanking putti are identical to those found on two brooches by Froment-Meurice, one in the Birmingham Museum and one in the Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim. Another brooch by Froment-Meurice, in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, features a similar central figure, but this time as an angel with wings, in a silver oval blue enamelled frame. These examples also bear a similar gold and blue enamel architectural mount, and differ only in the surrounding and pendulant embellishments. Saint Cecelia is the patroness of music, whose feast day is celebrated each November. A Roman maiden, she was amongst the earliest and most famous of the Roman martyrs, reputedly beheaded in 230 AD under the Emperor Alexander Severus. Throughout history, Saint Cecelia has inspired musicians and poets alike, appearing in John Dryden...
