Rigging the Line
By Lynette Cook
Located in Burlingame, CA
The subtle and brilliant work of art is meticulously hand painted by Lynette Cook, who realistically depicts scenes that she sees during her morning walks through the city, yet her paintings tend to reveal more than what initially meets the eye. Exterior facades of urban dwellings that are both architecturally complex — and mundane — are the focus of Cook’s Shadows and Silhouettes series of contemporary photorealistic acrylic paintings that capture San Francisco and other Northern California towns and convey the stories of their inhabitants. The paintings often feature the rhythmic dark-light dance of light traveling through wrought-iron balconies and inner-city fire escapes, and captures that which is universal and connects all people in their elemental desire to create a sense of home. 'Rigging the Line...

Wreath: ROME / olympian gold - oil painting
By Stephanie Peek
Located in Burlingame, CA
Wreath: ROME from artist Stephenie Peek who makes her home in California, is beautifully rendered with a sense of depth, intellect, timelessness and beauty. Inspired by a time the artist spent in Italy and found herself strongly drawn to the history and mystery of antique Roman laurels. Here, the golden wreath appears to float above the clouds in a surrealist, Magritte-like sky. The clear blue has an ethereal quality with glimmering gold. The painting's edges are painted white, so framing is not required. If framing is desired, we can provide it for an additional cost. Signed, dated and titled verso by artist: Artist's statement— The genesis of this oil painting, “Wreath,” is the classic laurel wreath fashioned in gold and awarded to victors, both athletic and poetic, in ancient Greece and Rome. From my studio at the American Academy in Rome, I looked out over the city and imagined these memorials to those who have crossed finish lines, so to speak, who have won their races. Suspended in silence, this wreath speaks for me not only of wordly success with its ephemeral nature, but also of a kind of lasting victory that art can remind us of. "Ars longa...

Amaryllis with Lemon / oil on canvas
By Willard Dixon
Located in Burlingame, CA
Amaryllis with Lemon in a white ceramic pot sits atop a white table with river rocks, in this still life painting from American realist artist, Willard Dixon, who says "the charm of Still Life painting for the artist lies in the ability to manipulate one's subject matter and in the intimate, direct nature of the painting process. It is very much a studio-centric activity, complete and self-sufficient. The objects that one works with do seem to take on a life of their own, both by themselves and in their affinity for one another. They have a history, a patina, they may be new, or world-weary." Best known for painting the American landscape and captivating the spirit of the West, with its grand and humble spirit, Willard Dixon also paints slill lifes, using objects from his own collection of bottles, dominoes, dice, cups and saucers. His work can be found in numerous distinctive private and public collections, as well as the San Francisco Museum of Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Oakland Museum of Contemporary Art. 'Amaryllis with Lemon' is a sunny and delightful work with a meditative and warm glow, in red, green. white and yellow. 47 x 42 inches. Artist signed. condition excellent. Still Life with Silver Cup / minimal, serene oil on canvas
By Willard Dixon
Located in Burlingame, CA
Minimal and serene silver cup with cobalt blue reflective orb adorn this contemplative, calm, zen like diptych - where two canvases are attached to create single work of art - from American realist painter Willard Dixon, who says "the charm of Still Life painting for the artist lies in the ability to manipulate ones subject matter and in the intimate, direct nature of the painting process. It is very much a studio-centric activity, complete and self-sufficient. The objects that one works with do seem to take on a life of their own, both by themselves and in their affinity for one another. They have a history, a patina, they may be new, or world-weary." Silver, blue and shades of grey. Best known for American landscape, captivating the spirit of the West, with its grand and humble spirit, Willard Dixon also paints slill lifes, using objects from his own collection of bottles, dominoes, dice, cups and saucers. His work can be found in numerous distinctive private and public collections, as well as the San Francisco Museum of Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC. 'Still Life with Silver Cup' is a minimalistic, meditative painting that will hold a viewer and offer an open place to free the mind and spirit. The artist was born: Kansas City MO, 1942 Education: Art Students League, New York, NY Cornell University Brooklyn Museum School San Francisco Art Institute, M.F.A. 1969 Awards and Commissions N.E.A. The artist continues, "My collection has been substantially whittled down to an essential few over the years, yet their combinations seem infinite. There is a lengthy and persistent shuffling, adding and eliminating to find that particular combination that suddenly takes on a rightness or self-sufficiency. It is interesting how one small object of the right color in the right place can facilitate such an event, or in another case the removal of something, a simplifying. I have a feeling when composing these paintings similar to my experience of playing with my jazz group. The key, the tempo, the dynamics, all come together, and there is a point when everything clicks and propels the music into a life of its own greater than the sum of its individual parts". —Willard Dixon 'Still Life with Chinese Ball...

Wreath / olympian gold - oil on panel painting
By Stephanie Peek
Located in Burlingame, CA
Olympic games 'Wreath' from Stephanie Peek, who makes her home in California, is beautifully rendered with a sense of depth, intellect, timelessness and beauty. Inspired by a time the artist spent in Italy, and found herself strongly drawn to the history and mystery of antique Roman laurels. Here, the golden wreath appears to float above the clouds in a surrealist, Magritte like sky. The clear blue has an ethereal quality with glimmering gold. The painting's edges are painted white, so framing is not required. If framing is desired, we can provide it for an additional cost. Signed on verso by artist: Artist's statement— The genesis of this oil painting, “Wreath,” is the classic laurel wreath fashioned in gold and awarded to victors, both athletic and poetic, in ancient Greece and Rome.

Summer Poppies (30 x 22.5" cyanotype painting)
Located in Oakland, CA
This unique multistep technique is a combination of a painting and a photograph or monotype. Cyanotypes are a kind of alternative photographic process from the 1800s. The chemicals are different from those used in black and white photography. The light-sensitive chemicals can be used to print blue and white photographs from a large negative or a person can capture the silhouette of solid objects rather like an x-ray in blue and white. In her Delft Garden series, artist Christine So first drew the outline of a plant in pencil and then painted it in a dark room —not paint– but with the cyanotype light-sensitive emulsion. When the painting had dried, she arranged plants on top of the painted silhouette in a pattern that would leave gaps like lace, carefully moved the entire bundle outside while still covered and then exposed the pattern multiple times at different angles to the sun, to achieve various shades of blue and white. The heavy cotton watercolor paper then needed to be thoroughly rinsed in order to stop the darkening process. The silhouette here is of the Giant California Tree...

Hana-Bi 4
By Frédéric Choisel
Located in Burlingame, CA
The Hana-bi 4 — A luminous oil on linen painting inspired by Japanese Fireworks The word hanabi in Japanese translates to "fire flowers," with hana meaning flower and bi meaning fire. It is most commonly used for fireworks, which the Japanese often describe as beautiful blooming bursts in the sky. The composition becomes more than a floral painting - it is a meditation on the emotional resonance of color, where flowers themselves become like fire: alive, radiant, and fleeting. The metaphor of "beautiful fire flowers" perfectly captures both the intensity and delicacy of the subject, reminding us how a blossom can carry an emotional spark. The artist said, "It is metaphorically a work on emotional connection to color, w/ith the flower as the subject".. Dimensions are 50 x 50 inches. French American Frédéric...
