This image was captured on film (1976) The selected negative was printed on Baryta paper by the author and then limited digital reproduction printed later (2021) on fine art paper Photo Rag Baryta 310 gsm for highest age resistance using pigment inks which are known for their longevity.
It is undoubtedly in this portfolio that the artist's will is best seen. The dialogues and interactions are so powerful and numerous that the cacophony awaits us. To attempt an iconoclastic reference, it would be Shawn Levy's funny and crazy film, "Night at the Museum", rather than the wise alignment of a statuary at the British Museum. Whether they are warriors, scholars or politicians, these statuettes speak for themselves, speak to each other, and speak to us about ourselves: the polyphony is complete.

Jean-Pierre De Neef came to photography like a new convert to religion, convinced that it would lend meaning to his life. His path took him first to a photographic laboratory, having once been a Cibachrome expert, regularly visited by French art photographers who made their way to Brussels to consult him.
Well-versed in modern high performance techniques, nowadays Jean-Pierre De Neef produces art photos for several internationally known photographers whose works can be found in galleries and fairs the world over.
Twelve years ago Jean-Pierre De Neef’s encounter with François Bayle, art critic and curator of the works of various photographers for Brussels Art Edition, enabled him to pursue his passion in new fields. He was at the side of the Italian photographer Fabrizio La Torre (Rome 1921, Brussels 2014) in the last few years of his life, who entrusted him with detailed instructions for digitising his archives and explained to him the results he was seeking.
Jean-Pierre De Neef with his refined technical skills, and François Bayle with his creativity made up a team which was perfectly equipped to stage a number of well-received exhibitions of the work of Fabrizo La Torre - Museum of Ixelles (Brussels 2011), Principality of Monaco, an excellent Retrospective,(2014) and Bangkok (2019), which involved the presentation of the photos taken in Thailand between 1956 to 1961.
Similar restoration work was performed on the photographic archives of the German photographer Jörg Krichbaum (d. 2002 in Brussels) and the remarkable photos of Rome...

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Italian photographer Fabrizio La Torre, Brussels Art Edition has chosen to publish 12 thematic “Celebration Boxes”, each of 6 photos, and each box published in only 100 copies at an exceptional price.
The chosen themes are: Rome, the Vatican, New York, Canada, Bangkok, Thailand, Hong Kong, women, children, transport, commerce and traders, and maritime navigation. Made between 1955 and 1966, these photos were digitized during the artist's lifetime and the technical parameters (framing, contrast, light, etc.) were approved by him. These are high quality fine art prints in A4 format (21 x 29.7 cm), on Baryté 310 gr Fine Art paper with museum quality pigment inks. Each box contains a numbered certificate of origin.
The very attractive price makes these boxes the ideal gift to offer to all lovers of vintage photos, but also an original set to decorate a room or an office, or only to indulge yourself and feed your collection. The production of these sets will be spread over four months until May 2021, (three themes per month) and they will be sold while stocks last. No reprints will be made.
All these photos are dated 1956-61, because the photographer had his films developed in his usual laboratory in Rome when he returned there on vacation.
The exact date of the shots is therefore unknown.

These photos were made in 1955, printed later, the negative was digitized during the artist's lifetime and the technical parameters (framing, contrast, light, etc.) was approved by him. These are very high quality fine art prints on 310 gr/m² with museum quality pigment inks.
During the 15 years during which he gave himself to photography, Fabrizio La Torre traveled to Italy, Europe, North America and Asia. From everywhere he brought back photos that tell of the human, universal and soul-filled condition, to which he was so sensitive. Here is First Look at Canada, where Fabrizio La Torre stayed in November and December 1955, on a 6-month trip to North America which also took him to Canada and California. In Montreal, he could not resist the urge to travel aboard the "Canadian", the most modern and luxurious version of the Canadian Pacific train, inaugurated a few months earlier, on April 24, 1955. And even if the official story of this company claims that as from this inauguration the train was pulled by modern diesel locomotives, the heavy steam engines are still used, to the delight of the photographer who knows how to play with their big white plumes. In stations, on platforms, steam is everywhere; while the temperature is around - 30°C, steam is welcome to thaw the axles, often blocked by ice.
1 – « The Rex Hotel », Toronto, November 1955. A cold, gray day where the snow is not far away, silhouettes of men in hats walking past the Rex Hotel. It has not yet become the legendary venue for all jazz concerts in Toronto. But for its comfortable rooms and its reasonable prices, this is where Fabrizio La Torre chose to stay.
2 – « On Wellington Street », Toronto November 1955.
The Gooderham building which remains one of the city symbols today, now surrounded by imposing skyscrapers while back then it was it’s turret that stared at the passer-by and the circulation of all its majesty .
3 – « Pietra e ferro », Stone and iron, Toronto November 1955. In every North American city where he passes, Fabrizio La Torre is struck by the overwhelming mass of buildings and the ubiquity of large cars, which he compares to living rooms. For this former naval officer accustomed to scanning around him with binoculars, the horizon is seems short. And nature is missing too: no tree grow outside the parks where they are confined.
4 – « Billiards », Toronto November 1955. Billiards, shoe shiners, restaurants, there is nothing lacking in the happiness of these gentlemen whose silhouettes in long coats and small hats definitely evoke the atmosphere of American movies of those years.

Because this image is "us", it is only us but it is all of us.
