This period was very important in his life because his father took him to many cities in Europe and exposed him to great works of art. Zorthian arrived in the United States at the age of eleven and settled with his family in New Haven, Connecticut. He obtained his formal education there, after graduating from Yale in 1932, the Winchester Fellowship granted him a year and a half at the American Academy in Rome with travel and study throughout Europe.
His art career branched into various directions on his return to the United States. As a mural painter his reputation was established. He has forty two (42) murals throughout the United States. Whether figurative or abstract, Zimmer’s artworks inherently alter the feeling of a space. One is absorbed in contemplation as perfectly layered colors and etched hieroglyphic text vibrate from within. Zimmer’s work oscillates between the Geometric Abstraction of Josef Albers and the sublimely layered color fields of Mark Rothko; with added figures that seem to be composed of shadows. This tension between form, color, and text creates canvases with glowing compositions that reverberate with emotion.
Bernhard Zimmer was born in 1957 in Stuttgart, Germany. From 1978 to 1984, he completed his education in Cultural Studies in Hildesheim. Zimmer continues to live and work in Cologne. He has exhibited in Hanover, Munich, Dusseldorf, Basel, Gent, Hong Kong, and Singapore to name a few. Zimmer has created a positive stir at major international art fairs such as Art Basel and Kunst Köln. His mysterious compositions pique the taste of the serious art collector.

Reminiscent of the Fauvist movement and Italian classicism, Italian artist Giuseppe Beddru’s bold outlines, dynamic brushstrokes and contrasting use of color make his work visually exciting. His work is extremely personal as well, drawing upon the Arab presence on the island where he grew up and his own Italian heritage. His paintings are indicative of self-discovery and emotional awareness, while also focusing on color, composition, and technical skill. This balance of visual dynamics and emotional response is essential to Beddru’s work.
Many of Beddru’s multi-media paintings include the visual motifs of classical Greek bas-relief sculpture, flattened within the confines of Plexiglas. Athletes and female portraits in profile are reminiscent of coins and popular classical imagery. After having admired and studied the works of the great masters, Beddru left Italy to continue his practice abroad.
This one-of-a-kind vibrant 22 inch square artwork is painted among many layers of Plexiglas panels. Beddru's pictorial subjects are represented through ink-based mixed media, applied via reverse painting techniques inspired by Italian painters from the seventeenth century. The eye of the observer is simultaneously caught by both a fascinating chromatic balance and the mystery of enigmatic figures who, from the depths of a mythological past, bring secretive symbols to our contemporary present as messages to decipher.
This artwork is framed in a modern, dark brown wooden frame. Size and price include the frame. It is wired and ready to hang. The artwork is signed by the artist on the front in white. Popular imagery within the context of Greek art history is overturned by atypical, yet vibrant and beautiful characters that populate his artistic world and speak up loud to make their voice heard. Guiseppe Beddru currently lives and works in his studio in Brussels and exhibits internationally on a regular basis in venues spanning from highly ranked art fairs to museums in both solo and collective exhibitions. His artworks are part of distinguished international private collections, such as the collection of the Saudi Royal Family and notable art collector Graeme Hart (New Zealand).
