Baryshnikov in Back and White by Mikhail Baryshnikov Collectible Art Book
Located in Moreno Valley, CA
Baryshnikov in Back and White By Mikhail Baryshnikov Collectible Art Book. The only collection of photographs documenting the last three decades of Mikhail Baryshnikov's brilliant career. Universally acknowledged as the most celebrated artist in the dance world ( Time magazine proclaimed him 'the greatest living dancer') Mikhail Baryshnikov's defection from the Soviet Union in 1974, at the age of twenty-six, breathed new artistic freedom into an already astonishing career. Working with American Ballet Theatre (where he was Artistic Director for ten years), the New York City Ballet (with George Ballanchine), and finally forming his own company in 1990 with Mark Morris, White Oak Dance Project, Baryshnikov has, over these past decades, changed the face of dance. Baryshnikov in Black and White presents, in over 175 photographs, the remarkable breadth of his achievement between the years 1974 and 2000. From his legendary roles in the classic ballets Giselle and Don Quixote , to his work with some of the world's greatest contemporary choreographers, Baryshnikov is shown here in both rehearsal and performance. Captured by the leading dance photographers, his vitality and genius are evident on every page. With an inspired and richly detailed essay by the New Yorker dance critic (and Baryshnikov biographer) Joan Acocella, a complete chronology of his roles, and extensive annotated captions, Baryshnikov in Black and White is the definitive book on his remarkable career in the West. From the moment of his first, spectacular North American appearance--in 1974, at the age of 26--Mikhail Baryshnikov was viewed as one of ballet's great virtuosos. But few could guess that his experimental spirit would lead him from princely roles in the classics to trailblazing collaborations with modern dance choreographers. Baryshnikov in Black and White reveals key moments of the dancer's artistic evolution from 1974 to 2000 in more than 175 starkly expressive black-and-white photographs. Glimpses of performances with American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, and the White Oak Dance Project join a few well-chosen studio rehearsal shots. They demonstrate Baryshnikov's enormous range, from the classical purity of Apollo to the improvisational HeartBeat: mb, from partnering Natalia Makarova...

The prince of prints: Pucci's vision and legacy Limited edition of 10,000 copies; each unique copy is bound with one of a selection of recent print fabrics from the Pucci collection. Pucci's vision and legacy Emilio Pucci (1914-1992) had a passion for women, a visionary sense of style, and an eye for color and design. With these talents he created a fashion house unlike any other. By the early '50s his boutique on the isle of Capri was catering to wealthy sophisticates, heiresses and movie stars buying his "Capri pants," silk scarves and lightweight separates. By the end of the decade, Jacqueline Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe were wearing his dresses, and by the mid-60s the label was synonymous with the gilded lifestyle of an international jetset. Today, the house remains as vibrant as ever - Victoria Beckham, Elizabeth Hurley, and Kylie Minogue are adherents. The Pucci story is a modern epic with its roots in renaissance Italy. Dimensions ‏ : ‎ 14.50 H x 2.5 x 14.5 inches Page count: 448. Format: Hardcover. Publisher: Taschen. Languages: French, German, Italian. Author: Vanessa Friedman, Alessandra Arezzi Boza. And finally, it is a tale of innovation: Pucci was one of the first brands to bear a logo, and a pioneer of diversification into interiors, athletic wear...

Located in Los Angeles, CA
Pitch perfect. From Funny Girl to a Star is Born, the meteoric rise of Barbra Streisand. In 1970 Barbra Streisand published a story in Life magazine titled "Who Am I Anyway?" Brimming with photographs—over half of which have never been published before—and stories behind the shots from Schapiro and Schiller, this is a must-have collection for any Streisand fan. All the best movies of Streisand's first Hollywood decade are here: Funny Girl, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, The Way We Were, The Owl and the Pussycat...

Broadway Musical Martin Gottfried Large Hardcover Book
Located in Moreno Valley, CA
Broadway Musical Martin Gottfried 1984 hardcover book.Large heavy book. A colorful tribute to the great Broadway shows of our time. Profusely illustrated in color. New York: Harry N. Abrams, Inc. Title Broadway Musicals Author Gottfried, Martin Format/Binding Hardcover Binding Hardcover Publisher Harry N. Abrams Place Of Publication NY Date Published 1984 395 illustrations, 112 in full color. Great oversized heavy coffee table art book. A true treasure of a book. This is a very large book, and not just width wise. It is very tall too. There are many pictures, a lot of them in color. They have some of the rarest flops featured toward the back of the book, and the classics are all here too. Some high points are the run-through of how they make (made) "Annie" run every night. There is also a synopsis of "Hello Dolly" which helpful since I have only seen the movie. There is a flaw though, and it is not insignificant. The author does not separate fact from opinion. Example: "Sweeney Todd does not hold a place in the theater". This book came out the same year "Sweeney Todd" did(1979), so it might be just a bit early to say that. Obviously, he is a critic, but he should have took that hat off ,and taken on the role of an author who looks at the facts.("Sweeney" is just one of the hows that gets criticized.) Colorful entertaining masterpiece with many of these Broadway Musicals some of them are THE WIZ...

Heroes, Monsters and Other Worlds from Russian Mythology. by Warner, Elizabeth & Alexander Koshkin. Published by Schocken Books., New York., 1985. 1st printing, 1st edition. Illustrated in black, white and color by Alexander Koshkin. Important reference work. A beautifully illustrated anthology of stories and legends of the Russian people includes forty-three tales of gods and heroes, dragons and monsters, witches and wizards, giants and shape-changers, along with information on the sources of Russian folklore. An anthology of Russian mythology chronicles the legends and folklore of diverse regions of Russia, including epic tales of ancient gods and heroes, dragons and monsters, wonderful and mysterious adventures, and other imaginative sagas From School Library Journal Grade 6 Up Russian folklore receives the same somewhat sensationalized treatment as other books in this series. The fantastic elements found in Russian folklore, demons, wizards, and wondrous creatures have been emphasized over the equally prominent folk elements. Yet the tales are well-researched, based upon the original Russian story collections (Afanas'ev and Potebnya, among others) and are written in a readable style. Well-known characters such as Baba...

From the several sorts of chocolate connoisseur-including the gourmoo, who eats only milk chocolate-to the several shapes of chocolate itself (bunny, kiss, glove compartment bar), Boynton's apologia for chocolate misses nothing. Myths are chocolate is not fattening, she argues, especially when the caloric expenditure of carrying it home from the store and hiding it from company is factored in. Wild California: Vanishing Lands, Vanishing Wildlife Collectible Book Signed
Located in Moreno Valley, CA
Wild California: Vanishing Lands, Vanishing Wildlife Collectible Book Signed. Wild California : Vanishing Lands, Vanishing Wildlife Leopold, A. Starker; Dasmann, Raymond F. (editor), Illustrated by Tupper Ansel Blake Science · Hardcover · Non-fiction · 144 pages. This is a stunning photographic guide to the six major California regions--from the Sierra Nevada to the desert--and their wildlife. In a highly readable style that mingles authority and eloquence, Leopold reminds us of the aesthetic, educational, and scientific values of undeveloped land. Oversized Wraps. Very Good +. First Edition, First Printing. Inscribed By The Illustrator. ISBN:0-520-06024-5. A wonderful photography book on the wildlife of California. Beautiful color photographs by Tupper Ansel Blake! This copy has a great inscription from Blake to singer/songwriter, Linda Ronstadt. A great association copy linking the photographer to Ronstadt, a famous nature activist. Synopsis: The universal spread of civilization has encompassed the wildness of California. While some of the original ecosystems have been preserved, others have been reduced to tattered remnants. Rich and varied habitats, with their plants and animals, are gone forever, destroyed by the conversion of valley lands to agriculture, the damming of streams, the cutting of forests, the paving of meadows. Wild California makes a persuasive argument for identifying and protecting areas of unspoiled California before they disappear. This is a stunning photographic guide to the six major California regions--from the Sierra Nevada to the desert--and their wildlife. To A. Starker Leopold, conservationist, naturalist, wildlife biologist, and educator, the delicate balance between plants, animals, and humans in each community is precious and fragile. In a highly readable style that mingles authority and eloquence, Leopold reminds us of th aesthetic, educational, and scientific values of undeveloped land. Tupper Ansel Blake, naturalist and wildlife photographer, has contributed one hundred color images that marvelously convey the special beauties of this state.
