Artemis and the Cloud Over Arethusa - colorful, abstract, acrylic on canvas
Located in Bloomfield, ON
Washes of colour in blues, orange, and green are expressed in gestural brush strokes in this abstract painting by visual artist Richard Tosczak. Working in collaboration with an Italian artist who is a ‘lover of literature and linguistics’, Angela Letizia Renzi, the two artists have created a series of works that draw inspiration from beloved Italian myths. This colourful acrylic represents the legend of a beautiful nymph named Arethusa who was threatened by the river god, Alpheus and rescued by Apollo’s twin sister, the goddess Artemis who creates a cloud to hide her. Renzi and Tosczak paint these canvases together and at the same time. Their artistic interaction is important to the works they create. “… This is our lexicon, our morphosyntax, the grammar of our language.” Tosczak and Renzi Richard Tosczak was born in Belgium. He studied philosophy and sculpture at the University of Alberta. At that time, Tosczak began working in steel and was influenced by a number of his professors who appreciated the work of a British abstract sculptor, Sir Anthony Caro considered one of the greatest sculptors of his generation. Further studies were pursued in France with another internationally acclaimed classic sculptor, Martine Vaugel...

Time and Motion - rich, dark, colourful, geometric abstract acrylic on canvas
By Milly Ristvedt
Located in Bloomfield, ON
Milly Ristvedt continues her exciting exploration of colour and form in this stunning new work. Hard-edged geometric shapes—rectangles and squares almost appear to be dancing around the canvas. The colour palette is bright—yellows, red, blues, purples which play off the darker, fluid burgundy/black backdrop. Art Critic Barry Lord (Art in America) declared that Ristvedt’s paintings were ‘more insistent than Bush, more consciously structured than Molinari.’ “Colour has been central to my explorations in painting from the beginning.” Milly Ristvedt Born in British Columbia, Ristvedt studied at the Vancouver School of Art (now the Emily Carr University) and had her first solo exhibit at the Carmen Lamanna Gallery in Toronto. In the late 1960s, Ristvedt shared a studio with famed Canadian painter Jack Bush, met art critic Clement Greenberg and was inspired by American painters Jules Olitiski...

A Country Like You (Le Pays Qui te Ressemble) - abstract, acrylic on canvas
Located in Bloomfield, ON
This lyrical, colourful abstract painting is by Canadian visual artist Richard Tosczak- one in a series created in collaboration with an Italian artist, Angela Letizia Renzi, a lover of literature and linguistics. In this dynamic composition, expressive, gestural lines and swaths of colour—yellow, green, turquoise, white, melon and brown flow across the canvas. Tosczak is perhaps best known for his beautiful bronze figurative sculptures. This painting was inspired by a poem entitled ‘L’invitation au voyage” written by C. Baudelaire, a famous French poet. ‘Au pays qui te ressemble’ means ‘the country that resembles you’. “The collaboration, which has its beginnings in the picturesque setting of Lake Como, continues, more productive than ever, on an island in the heart of the Mediterranean animated by the tide, the motion of the waves, the active volcano Etna and tales of local mythology.” Tosczak and Renzi Richard Tosczak was born in Belgium. He studied philosophy and sculpture at the University of Alberta. At that time, Tosczak began working in steel and was influenced by a number of his professors who appreciated the work of a British abstract sculptor, Sir Anthony Caro considered one of the greatest sculptors of his generation. Maroc Architecture Traditionnelle -18-, Painting, Oil on Canvas
Located in Yardley, PA
Maroc Architecture Traditionnelle -18- is: Oil painting, acrylic and graphyte on canvas. Morocco is considered, in terms of its architectural heritage, to be one of the richest in the region. Indeed this variety lies in the multitude of influences that the country has known throughout history. Thus, each region is characterized by its own signature. And we wouldn't be surprised if you fell in love with its riads and kasbahs! Everyone agrees that Morocco is the crossroads of the Arab East and the Western Mediterranean, represented by Andalusia and that the different artistic forms of Arab-Muslim art...

What You See - large, soft, blue, pink, gestural abstract, acrylic on canvas
By Milly Ristvedt
Located in Bloomfield, ON
A flurry of washed passages in a sky blue and rose pink mixed with passages of brilliant yellow, black, turquoise and cherise with curved strands of fixed pastel. These fine lines in bright green, electric blue, pink, cherise and black create spatial tension and depth within the large picture plane. This painting from 1980 is an early example of Ristvedt's ability to create a poetic narrative of space, light, texture and movement through color. Milly Ristvedt (b. 1942, Kimberley, BC) RCA, began her career in Toronto in 1964 after studies with Takao Tanabe at the Vancouver School of Art. At 24, her work was included in the Centennial Exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario...

Crazy Daisy
By Sheila Grabarsky
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
I watched as this painting revealed itself, color layer by color layer. My process is of reduction; subtracting as canvas gets full of expression until a cohesive composition evolves.

About the Artist
Sheila Grabarsky is an abstract painter living and working on the New Jersey shore. She is known for her bold and expressive gestural brushstrokes, juxtaposition of contrasting colors, and spontaneity in her paintings. Sheila’s animated paintings have been compared to those of Vasily Kandinsky, the Russian painter and art theorist referred to as “the father of abstraction.” And, like Kandinsky, the essence of inner beauty and the potency of the human spirit are key factors in her art. Fun fact: Sheila’s work is featured in a 2016 movie called American Pastoral...

Textured Contemporary Abstract Painting Winter in the City II
Located in Toronto, ON
Recycled industrial press ink lends Latour's work a saturation of colour and textural detail that is unique to the medium. Through careful manipulation he is able to craft paintings that have intricate coral-like surfaces. 'Winter in the City II' is the second of a pair of pieces that evoke the bustle of a city with the whiteout of a winter's day. This piece evokes David Milne's style of using white space to represent the season while Latour's signature colour saturation comes across in the bold orange and green accents through the piece.
