Homage à Kahnweiler / - The Appearance of Genius-
Located in Berlin, DE
Irmgard Biernath (1905 Waldheim in Saxony - 1998 Mainz), Hommage à Kahnweiler, 1984. Terracotta relief, burnished red body, 43.5 x 38 cm, mounted on support plate, in wooden frame 57 x 49.5 cm, monogrammed "IB" at lower right. - Isolated patina losses, but overall good condition, frame slightly bumped. - The Appearance of Genius- This homage to Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler shows the gallerist and art theorist as Pablo Picasso portrayed him in his lithographic portrait of 1957. As an innovative Parisian gallery owner, Kahnweiler had exclusively represented Picasso since 1911, while Picasso had painted his famous portrait of Kahnweiler the previous year as a major work of Cubism. And it is Picasso who appears at the centre of Irmgard Biernath's image. Here, his face echoes the features of the self-portrait he painted in 1907 in the Prague National Gallery. His eyes are wide open as he gazes into the distance, surrounded by the works of his artistic vision that have already taken shape. On the right is the bronze "Man with Sheep...

Two Faces Verlangen Desire Bronze Sculpture Dutch Head Portrait Double In Stock
By Theo Mackaay
Located in Utrecht, NL
Verlangen Desire Bronze Sculpture Dutch Head Portrait Double In Stock Theo Mackaay (1950) Mackaay works with recognizable shape:: women, men and animals, with a pointer at the primal form. Archetypal motives like warriors, women, horses, archers, lovecouples, created with his own signature. An example of this work is the wellknown ‘Gouden Kalf’, the big prize of the ‘Nederlands Film Festival’, designed in 1980 by Mackaay, commissioned by Jos Stelling, filmdirector and initiator of the festival. There has been big developments in his work after the calf, but the basic forms are still to be found in his work. The renewal in his work has been a internal fight, between the two sides of his brain. The wild artist animal and the changed, peaceful, contemplative sculptor. The last one won! Not only did he change as a human being, his work changed with him. Big, tough, expressionist bronzes and stone statues whith the woman and animal as favourite subject, changed in touching, intimate bronze sculptures. In the early work of Mackaay, the masters of the past were more visible, like Marino Marini and Ossip Zadkine. Now it seems, the artist is letting go of the past and found his own form language, after all the highs and lows in his life. His wandering through France, Italy and China brought him to Malaga in Spain, his current residence. Maybe it is the Mediterranean Sea or the Spanish sun...

Hippopotamus "lace" Bronze 6/8 by Sophie Martin
By Sophie Martin
Located in Pasadena, CA
Animal sculptor Sophie MARTIN creates from inert clay a whole living animal kingdom. She freely observes the animal and captures and interprets a movement; and places it in nature and real life with a zest of fancy. Without humanizing the model, respecting the uniqueness of each one in its biodiversity. After studying three years of art history at the Ecole du Louvre, it was with her uncle and her aunt veterinarians, that her love for animals truly took shape in the clay; as with the first models animals on the examination table...

Figure of a woman. Ceramic sculpture with meaning. Feminine energy. White Way.
Located in Zofingen, AG
Ceramic sculpture "White Way". With this work I am talking about the state of a woman when she is connected to the natural source of her power, when she is light at heart. In this case, a woman's actions are filled with favorable energy. I have depicted this energy in the form of a white band that she weaves with her hands.

The work is made of white white clay with fine chamotte. The figure has a matte rough surface of cream color with white engobe flecks. The white band is tied with polyester thread. It is attached to the figure with a thin wire. - Sve Gri...
