By (after) Jean Lurçat
Located in Auribeau sur Siagne, FR
Description: This striking glazed pottery platter, crafted in France in the 1970s, features a bold and expressive black bull at its center, surrounded by vibrant accents of yellow, green, and blue. Reminiscent of the work of southern French ceramicists from the 1960s, the platter evokes the sun-soaked spirit and artistic freedom of the Mediterranean coast. A piece full of character and color, it serves equally well as a decorative statement or a functional serving dish. Key features include: Southern French Aesthetic: The energetic brushstrokes and vivid color palette call to mind the styles of Vallauris and other southern ceramic traditions, celebrated for their earthy forms and Mediterranean vibrancy. Central Bull Motif: The powerful black bull, a symbol of strength and rustic heritage, anchors the piece in both myth and regional culture, while the surrounding colors create movement and contrast. Vibrant Glaze Work: The layered glazes in yellow, green, and blue enhance the platter’s visual dynamism, catching light and adding depth to the composition. 1970s French Craftsmanship: Made in France during a creative and bold era for ceramics, this platter is an authentic reflection of regional craftsmanship and artistic innovation. Decorative & Functional: Suitable as a centerpiece on a dining or coffee table, mounted on a wall, or used as a serving platter, it brings color and energy to any setting. Versatile Integration: Its graphic motif and strong palette make it ideal for modern, rustic, or eclectic interiors, effortlessly bridging traditional charm and contemporary appeal. This 1970s French glazed pottery platter is a celebration of color, culture, and craftsmanship—a perfect piece for those who appreciate authentic regional ceramics and bold artistic expression.
