Wind Chimes #2
By Ming Wai
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork Titled "Wind Chimes #2" 1983 in a color off set lithograph by renown Chinese/American artist Wai Ming A.K.A Lo Hing Kwok, b.1938. It is hand signed an inscribed A.C (Hors Commerce) in pencil by the artist. The image size is 30.25 x 22.75 inches, sheet size is 32.75 x 25.25 inches. It is in excellent condition, has never been framed. About the artist: Wai Ming, was born in Canton, South China on November 11, 1938, the son of a school master with nine children. Extremely poor as a child, he was raised in Hong Kong enduring many hardships amidst a chaotic environment of war and refugee settlements. Wai Ming's love for art flourished and he developed his drawing techniques without any art education, just painting what he saw. In the 1960s, Ming found representation in Hong Kong and also took the unusual step of opening his own gallery to display his work in. His primary interest being to capture images of life in fishing villages, or 'fish-folk', who have retained traditional Chinese culture, his work was at home with the sensibilities of many art buyers in Hong Kong. Crossing the ocean in his mid-30s, Wai Ming arrived in San Francisco from Hong Kong in 1974. There, he experienced initial resistance from galleries and the official art world for a variety of reasons, but was ultimately embraced by dealer Jack Swanson...

Original Calais, Chemin de Fer du Nord vintage French art deco travel poster
Located in Spokane, WA
Calais Chem de fer du Nord – Original Linen-Backed Vintage Travel Poster Full lithograph, archival linen-backed in A- condition, ready to frame. There is a restored tear about 5” long from the center bottom, as shown in one of the images. It is not a distraction, just trying to point out any visible imperfection on this 100-year-old, seldom found (in any condition). There is no paper loss. This exquisite original travel poster, designed by the acclaimed French artist Jeanne Poye Maillard, was commissioned by the French Northern Railway (Chemin de Fer du Nord) to entice holidaymakers to the picturesque port city of Calais. Rendered in lush, vivid colors and professionally linen-backed, the poster depicts an inviting seaside vista characteristic of the early- to mid-20th-century golden age of rail travel. The Embroidery Factories of Calais. Calais is famous well beyond its port—for more than a century, it has been a global center for embroidery and lace-making. Starting in the early 1800s, British inventors brought mechanical lace-making machines (notably the Leavers machine) to Calais to avoid industrial restrictions at home. This technological advance turned Calais into the central hub of the lace and embroidery industry. The artistry and precision of the Calais factory workers established French lace as the international standard, adorning haute couture garments for houses like Chanel and Dior...

Basquiat at Vrej Baghoomian gallery 1989 (Basquiat Red Warrior announcement)
By Jean-Michel Basquiat
Located in NEW YORK, NY
Basquiat: Vrej Baghoomian gallery New York, 1989: Vintage original folding announcement card to Jean-Michel Basquiat at Vrej Baghoomian Gallery New York: 10/21 to 11/25, 1989. Pictured on front side is an image of Basquiat's iconic, 'Red Warrior.' A rare, highly collectible Basquiat ephemera piece that works well in any collection. Off-set printed gallery announcement. 8.75 x 5.75 inches (folded closed). Light signs of handling; otherwise very good overall vintage condition. Published by Vrej Baghoomian Gallery, New York, 1989. Unsigned from an edition of unknown. Scarce. Jean-Michel Basquiat rose to success during the 1980s. Basquiat’s paintings are largely responsible for elevating graffiti artists into the realm of the New York gallery scene. His spray-painted crowns and scribbled words referenced everything from his Haitian and Puerto Rican heritage, to political issues, pop-culture icons, and Biblical verse. The gestural marks and expressive nature of his work not only aligned him with the street art of Keith Haring and Kenny Scharf, but also the Neo-Expressionists Julian Schnabel and David Salle. “If you wanna talk about influence, man, then you've got to realize that influence is not influence,” he said of his process. After quickly rising to fame in the early 1980s, Basquiat was befriended by many celebrities and artists, including Andy Warhol, with whom he made several collaborative works. At only 27, his troubles with fame and drug addiction led to his tragic death from a heroin overdose on August 12, 1988 in New York, NY. The Whitney Museum of American Art held the artist’s first retrospective from October 1992 to February 1993. Related Categories: Basquiat Tony Shafrazi. Basquiat ephemera. Basquiat poster. Sweet Candy
By Ruth Adler
Located in New York, NY
ABOUT THIS PIECE: Color is the foundation of this Canadian artist's work. Her circles start as a mood or idea that eventually evolve into a colored circle. She is curious how different colors interact when they're placed next to each other. Within a digital medium she experiments with intensity of colors and the different sensations colors evoke. Why a circle? When she explores her fascination with this shape, she discovers that the circle represents all that is familiar and comforting. It is the shape of the rising sun, of a mother's nipple, of the iris of the eye, and of a full moon. ABOUT THIS ARTIST: Ruth Adler is a Canadian artist whose mediums include paintings, works on paper, animated films and textiles. She is inspired by the city of Tel Aviv, music (she plays the harmonica) and her personal memories. Jim Kempner Fine Art...

Seascape I - large format photograph of blue tone horizon and sea
By Frank Schott
Located in San Francisco, CA
large scale photograph capturing the soothing tones of nature's calming blue hour color palette Seascape I by Frank Schott 48 x 64 inches / 122cm x 162cm signed edition of 7 30 x 40 inches / 76cm x 102cm signed edition of 25 archival fine art pigment print signed & numbered by artist on certificate label ------------------------- Frank Schott grew up in Germany and attended the prestigious Academy of Arts in Cologne, studying under Professor Arno Jansen, who was an early influence. Moving to California in 1998, Schott's work has evolved to include the epic landscapes and deserts of the American West as well as architectural, conceptual and more formal environments from both home and his travels. Influenced by a number of photographic peers and precursors such as Candida Höfer, Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth, Jeff Wall, Hiroshi Sugimoto, William Eggleston and Joel Sternfeld, Schott's images successfully blend technical, conceptual and formal rigor with a decisive sense of composition and color. Schott's images have an iconic sensibility and give us a bird's eye view onto humanity and its constructs. The specific is edged towards the abstract, often revealing the compelling and disjunctive moment where nature meets man. Frank Schott was born in Cologne, Germany in 1962. He currently lives and works in San Francisco. _________________________ Edition EKTAlux publishes an evolving curated selection of collectable large-scale photography in strictly limited editions, working closely with each artist to guarantee state-of-the-art museum level print and framing quality.
