The Gernsheim Collection, Edited by Roy Flukinger, 1st Ed
Located in valatie, NY
The Gernsheim Collection, Edited by Roy Flukinger. University of Texas Press, Sep 1, 2010. One of the most important collections of photography in the world. Amassed by the renowned husband-and-wife team of Helmut and Alison Gernsheim between 1945 and 1963, it contains an unparalleled range of images, beginning with the world's earliest-known photograph from nature, made by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce in 1826. It includes some 35,000 major and representative photographs from the 19th and 20th c; a research library of some 3,600 books, journals, and published articles; about 250 autographed letters and manuscripts; and more than 200 pieces of early photographic equipment. Its encyclopedic scope—as well as the expertise and taste with which the Gernsheims built the collection—makes the Gernsheim Collection one of the world's premier resources for the study and appreciation of the development of photography.
Published to coincide with a landmark exhibition staged by the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin, which owns the collection, this book presents masterpieces of the collection, along with lesser-known images of great historical significance. Arranged in chronological order, this selection effectively constitutes a visual history of photography from its beginnings to the mid-20th c. Each full-page image is accompanied by an extensive annotation in which Roy Flukinger describes the photograph's place in the evolution of photography and also within the Gernsheim Collection. Flukinger also provides an enlightening introduction in which he traces the Gernsheims' passionate careers as collectors and pioneering historians of photography, showing how their untiring efforts significantly contributed to the acceptance of photography as a fine art and as a field worthy of intellectual inquiry. Appreciations of the Gernsheim Collection by Alison Nordström and Mark Haworth...

(Frame not included).
The Art Edition comes with a book Stand designed by Tadao Ando.
The Genesis book Stand was conceived by Japanese architect Tadao Ando, the only living person to have won architecture’s four most prestigious prizes. Ando’s simple and innovative design consists of two “twin” pieces of wood, bound together with leather, into which a third piece of wood can be slotted to form a sturdy, elegant display.
Fine print:
Genesis is printed on a traditional coated 250 gsm art paper from the German paper mill Scheufelen that is no longer available on the market and was produced specially for Taschen. The black and white pictures are reproduced in a four-color separation process, with two blacks and two shades of grey; the density of the blacks achieved rivals that of the finest silver gelatin prints. GENESIS was printed and bound in an Italian workshop utilizing traditional craftsmanship techniques that are unique worldwide in this field, using Italian Cialinen fabric for the cover. The Ando book Stand was hand made in Spain, and the leather originates from Britain.
Precious cargo:
The two volumes come carefully packaged along with the Stand in a
robust custom-made wooden crate to preserve and protect them.
Attention: total weight is 59 kg (130 lb)!

The special edition is part of Taschen's 25th Anniversary Series A To M.
The ultimate coffee table book for design aficionados! Filled with photos of the most inspiring interiors from 6 continents, the selection of 100 homes represents a global spectrum of contemporary styles, from rustic minimalism to urbane eclecticism. What unites these dwellings is authenticity, a love of detail, and a zest for individual expression that will never go out of fashion.
Making stops in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia, this edition rounds up some of today’s most exceptional and inspiring interiors across six continents. From rustic minimalism to urbane eclecticism, the selection celebrates a global spectrum of styles, united by authenticity, a love of detail, and a zest for individual expression that will never go out of fashion.
100 Interiors Around the World takes the reader inside and outside of the most beautiful properties in the world. The book spans across six continents and includes a vast range of styles. This book is great for the architecture and home-styling lover, inspiration for the renovation starter, or as a lovely coffee table book for any home.
Taschen, the publisher of Brobdingnagian art and design books, has collected 100 interiors in two hefty volumes, like an Oxford English Dictionary of global interiors.
A is for an apartment in Amsterdam, overlooking the North Sea Canal. It is also for a concrete spaceship of a house (plus moat) in Acapulco. B is for Beijing and Beverly Hills and Berlin, and not one but two cold war-era apartments — one in former Soviet housing, its pocked cement walls now patina for a young artist’s vintage and Ikea furniture. C is for Cape Town, and the home of an artist who works in mosaics and plumbing pipes painted in rainbow colors. In Chiang Mai, a house on stilts is tiled in concrete imprinted with bamboo. In New York City, a computer consultant lives in a former garage outfitted with twin sleeping pods made from an oil truck tank. This collection represents the greatest hits from Taschen’s archive
Includes interiors in Argentina, Brazil, China, Cuba, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Morocco, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the UK, the USA, and many more countries.
With pictures by leading interior photographers including Xavier Béjot, Pieter Estersohn, Marina Faust, Reto Guntli, François Halard...

Framed Landscape Photograph by Don Hong Oai
By Don Hong Oai
Located in Atlanta, GA
A framed photograph by Chinese American photographer Don Hong-Oai (1929-2004) "The Intimate Shadow", a composed landscape photograph taken in Quilin, the world-famous scenic area in China. Signed with title, inscription of location and dated on the top -left, red sealed on the lower right corner and signed and dated 1982 lower left on the mat. The photograph depicts an idyllic scenery on Li-river with the karst peak in the misty background, where a fishing boat floats. The work was created with dark room manipulation to echo the traditional chines ink painting that showcase a surreal ambience. The photograph is housed in the original artist's archive metal frame with an old print of the artist's bio and copyright mark on the back. It was purchased directly from the artist's studio. Sight Approximately 13.625" w x 10.125" h.
Don Hong-Oai was born in Canton, China but raised and educated in Saigon, Vietnam. At age 13 he began an apprenticeship at a Chinese photo and portrait shop. In 1979 he immigrated to the United States and settled in the Chinatown of San Francisco.
Don began making a living by selling his landscape photographs in front of Macy’s and began to receive recognition for his craftsmanship. His style was heavily influenced by the legendary photographer Long Chin-San and his technique of layering negatives for ideal composition, by taking three negatives, foreground, middle ground, and far ground, and selecting a subject from each negative. The photographs of Don Hong-Oai are made in a unique style, which can be considered Asian pictorialism. This method of adapting a Western art for Eastern purposes probably originated in the 1940s in Hong Kong. One of its best-known practitioners was the great master Long Chin-San (who died in the 1990s at the age of 104) with whom Don Hong-Oai studied. With the delicate beauty and traditional motifs of Chinese painting (birds, boats, mountains, etc.) in mind, photographers of this school used more than one negative to create a beautiful picture, often using visual allegories. Realism was not a goal. Don Hong-Oai was one of the last photographers to work in this manner. He is also arguably the best. He has won hundreds...

History and influence:
Bruce Harry Bellas was born in Alliance, Nebraska on July 7, 1909. He worked as a chemistry teacher there until 1947, when he began photographing bodybuilders in Los Angeles, California, beginning with taking pictures of bodybuilding competitions. In 1956, Bellas launched his own magazine, The Male Figure. Among physique photographers, Bellas' work was noted for having a distinctly campy, tongue-in-cheek sensibility. Bellas also produced a number of early homoerotic 8 mm films with titles such as Cowboy Washup and Big Gun for Hire.
Bellas was known to travel around the country, finding new models to photograph and also personally delivering nude photographs to customers, since they were liable to be seized by postal inspectors if sent through the mail.

Michael Roberts Original Photograph "Michel Greek Toga" Hamilton
s London, 1989
By Michael Roberts
Located in Palm Springs, CA
PLEASE NOTE:
This original photo from the amazing Michael Roberts exhibition at Hamilton's Gallery in London, England of "Michel in a Toga" was used in promotional pieces for the exhibit. It is signed/ nuymbered 1/25, but this is the actual photograph from the exhibit, and no other image was made/printed. IT IS AN AMAZING IMAGE. * This image of Michel wearing a sheer greek key toga. He is nude underneath and although subtle, it is a nude. Michel was a high fashion male model thet Michael Roberts adored and used him for many fashion campains for Joeph's London. A rare large black and white hand printed silver gelatin photograph of Michel by the legendary fashion icon, Michael Roberts, London. This image was part of a Michael Roberts show in 1989 at Hamilton's gallery, London. Signed on back. Black metal simple frame. Image: 15" x 19", framed: 22' x 26".
This image was in the gallery show in London. The images from the show are very rare and now highly sought after and collected after Mr. Robert's death. two images were purchased from that Exhibit. The second one, "Nude of Michel" is available on separate listing. We hope they are purchased together as they were hung next to each other in the exhibit.
MICHAEL ROBERTS:
The preferred medium of the fashion journalist Michael Roberts was Canson art paper, which he scissored freehand into crisp-cut collages, or snipped into minute dots to reassemble into mosaics, for magazine covers or book illustrations. His art, bit by bit putting it together, reflected his life in fashion. He wrote about it, commissioned unexpected others to do so, photographed for media and ads, and charmed cranky legendary lensmen into snapping for him. He could source the clothes, choose the crazy locale, stage the shoot’s story, and write a witty critique of the enterprise. He was also always the most elegant person involved, effortlessly cool.
Roberts, who has died aged 75, never bothered with a résumé, since every new role or venture seemed to just develop, but they totted up to a serious career. He was a writer on the Sunday Times in the 1970s, when new couture catwalk drama and heightened designer celebrity demanded a fashion voice that was both theatre critic and gossip columnist. Then from 1979 he was art and style director of Tatler magazine, when the editor, Tina Brown...

Baryshnikov in Back and White by Mikhail Baryshnikov Collectible Art Book
Located in Moreno Valley, CA
Baryshnikov in Back and White By Mikhail Baryshnikov Collectible Art Book.
The only collection of photographs documenting the last three decades of Mikhail Baryshnikov's brilliant career. Universally acknowledged as the most celebrated artist in the dance world ( Time magazine proclaimed him 'the greatest living dancer') Mikhail Baryshnikov's defection from the Soviet Union in 1974, at the age of twenty-six, breathed new artistic freedom into an already astonishing career. Working with American Ballet Theatre (where he was Artistic Director for ten years), the New York City Ballet (with George Ballanchine), and finally forming his own company in 1990 with Mark Morris, White Oak Dance Project, Baryshnikov has, over these past decades, changed the face of dance. Baryshnikov in Black and White presents, in over 175 photographs, the remarkable breadth of his achievement between the years 1974 and 2000. From his legendary roles in the classic ballets Giselle and Don Quixote , to his work with some of the world's greatest contemporary choreographers, Baryshnikov is shown here in both rehearsal and performance. Captured by the leading dance photographers, his vitality and genius are evident on every page. With an inspired and richly detailed essay by the New Yorker dance critic (and Baryshnikov biographer) Joan Acocella, a complete chronology of his roles, and extensive annotated captions, Baryshnikov in Black and White is the definitive book on his remarkable career in the West.
From the moment of his first, spectacular North American appearance--in 1974, at the age of 26--Mikhail Baryshnikov was viewed as one of ballet's great virtuosos. But few could guess that his experimental spirit would lead him from princely roles in the classics to trailblazing collaborations with modern dance choreographers. Baryshnikov in Black and White reveals key moments of the dancer's artistic evolution from 1974 to 2000 in more than 175 starkly expressive black-and-white photographs. Glimpses of performances with American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, and the White Oak Dance Project join a few well-chosen studio rehearsal shots. They demonstrate Baryshnikov's enormous range, from the classical purity of Apollo to the improvisational HeartBeat: mb, from partnering Natalia Makarova...

Robert Frank Untitled from the Americans, 1958, Beats Culture, Black
White.
Photogravure print, mid-century, France, wax tissue mounted on conservation matboard.
Influenced by the work of Jakob Tuggener and Bill Brandt, as well as Walker Evans, Frank, a native of Switzerland, Frank was fascinated by documentary photography and the notion and image of "America." Frank secured a Guggenheim fellowship in 1955 to do something new and unconstrained by commercial diktats. "The Americans" was first published in 1958 in France, before its first run in the US in 1959. The photographs were shocking and notable for their distanced view of both high and low strata of American society, creating a complicated portrait of a period that was, then and now, considered to be a skeptical portrait of post-WWII American values but also deeply empathetic and profoundly evocative of ubiquitous loneliness.
Frank found a tension in the gloss of American culture and wealth over race and class differences, which gave his photographs a clear contrast to those of most contemporary American photojournalists, as did his use of unusual focus, low lighting and cropping that deviated from accepted photographic techniques.
Shortly before the book was published in France, Frank returned to the US (1957) and met Jack Kerouac on the sidewalk outside a party. They started chatting. Frank showed him some of his photographs. Kerouac immediately told Frank "Sure, I can write something about these pictures." Kerouac would write the introduction to the American edition of the book, published two years later.
