John O Hara, Get Your Shit Together, Embossed Serigraph
By John O Hara
Located in SAINT LOUIS, MO
John O'Hara's famous 'Get Your Shit Together' painting is now a 2-color embossed serigraph on recycled archival hemp paper. Hand signed by the artist. This work is unframed. Forsyth is proud to be the exclusive gallery of John O'Hara (American, b. 1963). O'Hara is a self-taught artist from St. Louis and is known for his large-scale abstract decorative pieces. His medium of choice is encaustic-a mixture of pigments and beeswax and he allows the material to dictate color, line and texture. His works often feature natural and organic forms and incorporate both figural and abstract elements. O'Hara began his art career in 2018 and collectors and designers quickly took notice. His work is included in both public and private collections around the world. Michael Kors selected O'Hara's Tar series paintings for his Milan, Paris, and New York showrooms and his flagship store in London. O'Hara's Brands on Yellow is hanging in the lounge of New Orleans luxury boutique hotel, Maison de la Luz...

"Rose et Noir" Commentary on Social Drinking Triple Triptych by Paul Iribe
By Paul Iribe
Located in San Diego, CA
"Rose et Noir" is a group of three framed triptychs (a total of nine lithographic images); displaying a commentary on social drinking with a recurring theme of cocktail shakers; the set illustrates the terrifying effects of American cocktails on a newly married couple. It also includes a booklet by Rene Benjamin entitled, "Dialogue Moderne en Trois Temps et Trois Cocktails" and portfolio cover, published by Parisian wine merchant Etablissements Nicolas Dessins (France). #3102 Each image is 11.5" x 9.5" and marked "Paul Iribe" in the lower right. The framed size of each triptych is 18.25" x 38.5"; with the total size of the piece displayed on the wall is 38.5"W x 54.75"H. The works are beautifully presented and matted in silk moire and black wood frames. The piece is in very good vintage condition. PAUL IRIBE Paul Iribe (1883–1935) was born in Angoulême, France. He started his career in illustration and design as a newspaper typographer and magazine illustrator at numerous Parisian journals and daily papers, including Le temps and Le rire. In 1906 Iribe collaborated with a number of avant-garde artists to create the satirical journal Le témoin, and his illustrations in this journal attracted the attention of the fashion designer Paul Poiret. Poiret commissioned Iribe to illustrate his first major dress collection in a 1908 portfolio entitled Les robes de Paul Poiret racontées par Paul Iribe. This limited edition publication (250 copies) was innovative in its use of vivid fauvist colors and the simplified lines and flattened planes of Japanese prints. To create the plates, Iribe utilized a hand-coloring process called pochoir, in which bronze or zinc stencils are used to build up layers of color gradually. This publication, and others that followed, anticipated a revival of the fashion plate in a modernist style to reflect a newer, more streamlined fashionable silhouette. In 1911 the couturier Jeanne Paquin also hired Iribe, along with the illustrators Georges Lepape and Georges Barbier, to create a similar portfolio of her designs, entitled L'Eventail et la fourrure chez Paquin. Throughout the 1910s Iribe became further involved in fashion and added design for theater, interiors, and jewelry to his repertoire. He continued to illustrate fashion, opened a store of decorative art on the rue du Faubourg St.-Honoré in Paris, and created textiles for the firm Bianchini Ferier and for designer André Groult. His association with the theater resulted in several publications related to the renowned dancer Vaslav Nijinsky, including the album Prélude à l'aprés-midi d'un faune, which captured Nijinsky's choreography for the Claude Debussy composition in photography by Adolph de Meyer...

Located in Downingtown, PA
Antique engraving of a Tucano Mangiapepe, by Saverio Manetti Circa 1776 A fine hand colored engraving of a Tuscan Magpie by the Italian artist Saverio Manetti. Manetti drew his work predominantly from real specimens. The work was one of the largest ornithology undertakings to that point in time. Dimensions: 25 inches high x 22 inches wide x 1 1/4 inches deep. (frame); (63.5cm high x 55.88cm). 18 x 14 in. (sheet) Reference: Wikipedia Manetti was born in Brozzi to Giovanni Bernardo and Maria Teresa Nesiscolt of Prague. His early studies were in Florence and later at Pisa where he studied botany under Pier Antonio Micheli. He graduated in medicine in 1745 and worked in Florence. In 1758 he joined the National Medical College where he studied anatomy under Antonio Cocchi (1695–1758), conducting the autopsy of Cocchi. Manetti was Professor of Botany of the "Società Botanica Fiorentina", a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, a Fellow of the Royal Society, learned societies in Göttingen and Montpellier, an Accademico dell'Istituto di Bologna and he maintained scientific contacts with the Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus and with the main scientific circles of the second half of the 18th century. He was supervisor of the Orto Botanico di Firenze in Florence from 1749 to 1782 succeeding to Giovanni Targioni Tozzetti and Secretary of the Accademia dei Georgofili. With remarkable organizational effort, he secured the publication of Storia naturale degli uccelli, Natural History of the birds, a monumental work in five volumes illustrated with 600 hand-coloured engravings based on watercolor paintings. The book was commissioned by Maria Luisa, Grand duchess of Tuscany and the first volume was dedicated to Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo. The third volume was dedicated to Ferdinando di Brobone and the fourth to Giorgio Nassau Clavering. Querelle A27 White Screen Print by Andy Warhol
By Andy Warhol
Located in San Diego, CA
Querelle A27 (white) screen print by Andy Warhol, circa 1982. The print is in very good vintage condition and measures 27.5"W x 39.25"H. Very impressive piece in person, sorry about the glare in the photos. #2631 This rare print of two young men in a rather provocative pose, Andy Warhol used a photograph taken in preparation of his poster for Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s film Querelle. In 1982, Warhol was commissioned by the German film director Rainer Fassbinder, to design a poster for his adaptation of Jean Genet’s classic novel, ‘Querelle’. The story of a sailor’s journey into the sexual underworld of a French port appealed to Warhol’s cinematic sensibilities and could easily have been one of his own productions (he had started making films in the 1960s). This design is based on a photograph by Warhol of two young men with bare shoulders. It is characteristic of his work in the 1980s, incorporating elements of both hand-drawn and photographic screen printing. He focuses attention on the suggestively licking tongue by splashing it with a vibrant red. The film is based on Jean Genet’s scandalous novel Querelle de Brest, written in 1947 and published only six years later. It is not difficult to imagine that both Fassbinder and Warhol where fascinated by Genet’s violent and explicitly homoerotic story of the sailor, opium dealer and murderer Georges Querelle. The film’s notoriety was further heightened by Fassbinder’s death of drug overdose and its posthumous release in 1982. Warhol’s screen prints...
