19th Century French Village Oil Painting on Canvas Signed E. Galien-Laloue
By Eugene Galien-Laloue
Located in Dallas, TX
This 19th century impressionist painting was crafted in France, circa 1890. Set in a carved giltwood frame, the artwork painted on canvas, illustrates a picturesque, countryside landscape scene with people, chickens, a village and its road in the foreground. The oil on canvas is signed on the back in the lower left corner, Eugene Galien-Laloue (see last picture). There is also a printed version of the artist name in the top left corner, printed Galien-Laloue (see second to last picture). The artwork is in excellent condition with rich, sensational colors; it would make a lovely addition to a library, den, or living room. Canvas relined. We thank Mr. Noé Willer for confirming the authenticity of this work, which appears in his archives of the artist. Eugène Galien-Laloue (1854-1941) was a French artist of French-Italian parents. He was a popularizer of landscape and street scenes, usually those illustrating autumn or winter settings. His paintings of the early 1900s accurately represent the era in which he lived: a happy, bustling Paris during la Belle Époque. His paintings regularly include horse-drawn carriages, trolley cars and its first omnibuses. Galien-Laloue's works are valued not only for their contribution to 20th century art, but for the actual historical content which they document. His work can be seen at the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Louvier, Musée des Beaux-Arts, La Rochelle, Mulhouse, France. A typical Galien Laloue...

19th Century Framed Farmyard Oil Painting Signed Kermanguy for E. Galien-Laloue
By Eugene Galien-Laloue
Located in Dallas, TX
Decorate a study, living room or den with this beautiful and colorful antique painting! Painted in France circa 1890, the artwork on canvas is set in a 19th century carved gilt wood frame and illustrates a picturesque, countryside scene in rural France depicting a farmyard at the edge of a village; the painting is signed in the lower right corner by the artist, E. Kermanguy, one of the pseudonyms of Eugene Galien-Laloue (1854-1941). The pastoral painting, which has been relined, is in excellent condition with rich, realistic colors in a post impressionist style; throughout the painting, the viewer can get a sense of the artist's expertise in the rendering of space, light and a beautifully hazy atmosphere. We thank Mr. Noé Willer for confirming the authenticity of this work, which appears in his archives of the artist. Eugène Galien-Laloue (1854-1941) was a French artist of French-Italian parents. He was a popularizer of landscapes, marine and street scenes, usually those illustrating autumn or winter settings. Some artists or writers are content to have a pseudonym so as to disguise their work. Eugène Galien Laloue was particularly adept at establishing many identities, since over the course of his career he worked under three main pseudonyms: J. Lievin – after a soldier he met during the Franco-Prussian war, E. Galiany – an Italianized version of his own names, and L. Dupuy – after Dupuy Léon who lived in his same area. Even his name “Galien” is questionable, since on occasion he spelled it with one “l” and on his birth...

Large French Landscape Painting of a Hunter and Hillside Village, Dated 1962
Located in Dallas, TX
Purchased from a chateau in the South of France, this large landscape painting of a hunter walking outside of a hillside village is over 10 feet tall and seven feet wide. The canvas is signed and dated in the lower right-hand corner, indicating that the artist completed the massive painting in 1962. Based on the apparel of the hunter and the condition of the surrounding vegetation, it appears to be an early autumn day. Our hunter is walking through a forest clearing with his dog, possibly an Irish Setter with a long, ruddy coat. The man is clad in a green fedora and similarly colored pants with black knee-high boots and an olive jacket...

American Winter Forest Watercolor Painting in Gilt Frame Signed G. Carpenter
Located in Dallas, TX
Set inside a carved gilt framed behind protective glass, this watercolor on paper painting was created circa 1970 and signed in the lower right corner by the artist, George Carpenter. The peaceful artwork has a simple composition with a thick forest surrounding an icy stream in the foreground. The artist method gives us an undeniable moving, impressionistic feeling. The classic style landscape is in excellent condition and has heavily pigmented colors in a blue, green and deep purple palette. George Carpenter was an impressionist painter of watercolor landscapes and exhibited in the United States, Canada, and abroad. Born on December 13, 1928 in Boston, Massachusetts, George was the son of George Gillis and Daisy Winifred Carpenter. He married Virginia Forsyth on October 14, 1966 and served in the Korean Conflict with the 82nd Airborne Unit. He moved to Ogunquit, Maine in 1966 to pursue his passion of painting. By his own count he estimated prior to his death that he had created 18,000 pieces of art while living there and operating his studio in Perkins Cove...

19th Century French Oil on Canvas Family Priest Portraits Painting in Gilt Frame
Located in Dallas, TX
Decorate a study or office with this elegant antique oil painting. Painted in France and dated 1862, the canvas is set in an important carved giltwood frame. The subject matter depicts five portraits of a priest family titled "Les Quatres Freres et un Neveu" ( the four brothers and a nephew ). The art work also titled "Elegi Eos Mihi in Sacerdotes" is a Latin phrase which translates to "I have chosen them for myself as priests"; this expression is often found in religious texts and liturgical contexts, emphasizing divine selection or appointment. In the Judeo-Christian tradition, it underscores the belief that priests are chosen by God for sacred duties, serving as mediators between the divine and the people. This choice signifies a special calling, responsibility, and consecration to spiritual service. The phrase highlights themes of divine will, vocation, and dedication, reflecting the importance of priestly roles in religious communities as representatives and leaders in worship and guidance. The large religious painting...
