Art Deco Paperweight by Paul Kiss
By Paul Kiss
Located in NANTES, FR
Art Deco paperweight circa 1925.
Wrought iron squirrel stamped P. Kiss.
In perfect condition.
Height: 16.5 cm
Width: 8 cm
Length: 12.5 cm
Weight: 1.8 kg
Paul Kiss, born on March 5, 1886 in Kézdiszentkereszt (hu) (then in Hungary, now Poian in Romania) in the Carpathian Mountains and died in 1962 in Linières-Bouton, France, was an artistic ironworker.
He exhibited at major French art events of the 1920s.
Paul Kiss helped elevate metalworking to an art form in the 1920s and 1930s, creating magnificent furniture, table lamps, and wall mirrors with exquisite ornamental details, inspired by Art Deco. The pieces often featured geometric patterns, plant motifs, and human and animal figures.
Kiss was born in Hungary in 1885 but moved to Paris in 1907. There, he worked under Raymond Subes and Edgar Brandt, two of the most famous metalworkers of the time. After the First World War, Kiss opened his own studio and showroom on Rue Léon-Delhomme. Kiss designed and produced numerous pieces of iron furniture throughout the 1920s and 1930s. He was commissioned to restore historic monuments and create new public monuments. His clients included the kings of Siam and Egypt.
Kiss created the metalwork for the war memorial in Levallois-Perret, France, for which he received the silver medal at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1924. In 1925, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs and the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts.
In the 1920s, Kiss mentored the young designer Paul Fehér...

Vest Pocket Kodak Strut Folding Roll Film Medium Format Camera 1912-1934
By Eastman Kodak
Located in Reading, Berkshire
Vest Pocket Kodak Strut Folding Roll Film Medium Format Camera With A blla Bearing Shutter
Uses No A 127 Film Fitted With A. f/7.7 Anastigmat lens,
Serviced by Kodak Limited London 1952 (stamp inside)
The Vest Pocket Kodak (VPK), also known as the Soldier's Kodak, is a line of compact folding cameras introduced by Eastman Kodak in April 1912 and produced until 1934, when it was succeeded by the Kodak Bantam. Because the VPK uses 127 film, it is more compact than contemporary folding cameras using 120 film and larger sheet film formats offered by Kodak; measuring approximately 12×6.3×2.7 cm when stowed, it could be carried in a vest pocket, as the name suggests.
Frank Hurley, official photographer of Sir Ernest Shackleton's 1914 Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, salvaged a VPK and three rolls of film from the sinking of the expedition ship Endurance with the loss of most of his photographic equipment. He used it to shoot 38 images of the successful return of the party to civilisation.[24]
A VPK was carried during the 1924 British Mount Everest expedition and may offer proof that climbers George Mallory...

Asprey Art Deco Sterling Silver
Shagreen Magnifying Glass
By Asprey International Limited
Located in Bath, GB
A magnificent magnifying glass by the creme de la creme of English retailer's, Asprey of Bond Street, London. The silver is fully hallmarked for London 1928 together with the maker's mark W.M. The silver is also signed "Asprey London".
Excellent antique condition with minor wear commensurate with age measuring 7 3/4" x 3 5/8" x 5/8". A slight wobble to the magnifier due to the traditional pinned construction rather than glued, mentioned purely for accuracy.
The handle is made from polished Shagreen, a leather made from sharkskin or the skin of a Stingray. This type of Shagreen was first made popular by Jean-Claude Galluchat (d1774) a master leather worker in the Court of Louis XV in France. It became a fashion amongst the French aristocracy and later throughout Europe. Shagreen is derived from the French word “Chagrin”.
Asprey is a British retailer of jewellery, leather, silver and other luxury goods. Founded in 1781, the House has historically been recognized as one of the world’s pre-eminent luxury goods brands and has a substantial client base of members of royalty, heads of state and important actors on the world stage.
For over two centuries, Asprey has been regarded as a top British luxury lifestyle brand and the Bruton Street Flagship Store is considered a must see London destination.
Asprey’s broad product assortment includes jewellery, leather goods, accessories, silver, watches, clocks, first edition...
