EDWARD WILLIAM GODWIN WILLIAM WATT ANTiQUE VICTORIAN PARLOUR GOLF GAMES TABLE

This is our Editors choice piece, it is the only one I have ever personally seen of this type, as such it deserves special recognition This is a very decorative and well made table, it comes with the original club, balls and removable flag, this piece is full of Victorian whimsey, as soon as I saw it I new it need adding to our collection After some research, I have found that the maker's stamp WW refers to William Watt, a cabinetmaker who worked with architect E.W. Godwin in the late 19th century, specifically around 1870. Their collaboration is documented on pieces like a mahogany bow-back chair. William Watt's workshop was involved in the production of furniture designed by Godwin, I will include a brief biography below In terms of the condition there will be age related patina marks here and there, to be honest its exquisite and has the period finish, what more could you ask for! Dimensions Height:- 62cm Width:- 43cm Depth:- 43cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask. Any questions please feel free to ask before you bid. Designers & Makers E.W. Godwin British 1833 - 1886 Over a period of twenty-five years Edward William Godwin is thought to have produced around four hundred eclectic designs, many executed in the Anglo-Japanese style which he is credited for popularising. During the mid-nineteenth century, British taste was dominated by ornately decorated furniture which created dark and heavy Victorian interiors. Looking to Japanese arts and crafts for inspiration, Godwin began to produce furniture which celebrated rectilinear forms devoid of ornament. He never visited Japan so relied on imported goods, amassing his own collection of Japanese prints, ceramics and furniture. His preference for elegant lines and undecorated surfaces resulted in lighter, sculptural forms, which looked forward to modern furniture design. Ebonised surfaces defined his Anglo-Japanese style, and Godwin regularly incorporated various floral and abstract motifs into furniture panels. Reducing decoration to series of turned spindles and ribbed grooves, a preference for light construction and utility dominates his work, adhering to principles of the Aesthetic Movement. Although he is largely recognised for his Anglo-Japanese furniture, Godwin never tied himself to one style. As a result, many of his designs demonstrate an interest in Ancient Egypt and Greece, Gothic, Queen Anne and Jacobean furniture. His Anglo-Greek and Anglo-Egyptian furniture designs are characterised by inlaid and geometric-turned decoration, angled supports and splayed legs, yet retain an elegant and functional aesthetic. Another distinguishing feature of his work is the use of solid, structured lines, akin to those seen in Japanese woodblock prints. Godwin also had an interest in Chinese decorative arts, his grid-like forms and interplay of solid and void spaces likely being inspired by Chinese hardwood furniture...

Trojan XXI Chess Table Set (White)
Located in Ostrava, CZ
Trojan, a coffee table at first sight, is hiding space that holds similar amount of fighters as a legendary Trojan horse. 32 chess pieces made by Towarna, are cast from concrete, one of first composite materials, used already in ancient Rome. Chess, which evolved from the Persian chess-like game Shatranj, purportedly developed from the first known variant - an Indian game of Chaturanga, are the best gymnastics for our brains. Chessboard is made of 68 hand-folded parts of a special wood veneer with an unusual wood texture that can be seen for example in interiors of luxury cars. We've added a delicately light variant to our Trojan chess table...

Teckell T1.1 Crystal 9-foot Pool Table in Light Bronz by Marc Sadler
By Teckell, Marc Sadler
Located in Brooklyn, NY
The Teckell T1.1 pool table with light bronze trim lures in both design aficionados and top players. The light dances across its handcrafted glass surfaces and glimmers when it strikes the light bronze aluminum rails. The tempered glass playing field is at least 9/16” thick. A precise leveling system utilizing 12 screws is hidden inside the table’s black, solid oak base. Available in different options: Black structre DIMENSIONS: L 290 W 163 H 82 cm It features legs made of clear tempered crystal at least 0.59" th. with double-bevel edges that self-stabilize, a support made of solid wood hollowed out for the insertion of the glass, hiding a perfect system of regulation and a playing field made of a single sheet of tempered crystal at least 0.59" th. Simonis 860 worsted wool playing surface available in 25 colors. For the perfect game of style, Teckell pool tables’ surfaces are also available with Redaelli Velluti made in Italy cloths. Bases are in solid oak which has been ebonized (a reaction that turns black the open pore wood) with a shiny stainless steel structure. The pockets are made of smoked transparent thermoplastic. Solid aluminum rails with black anodized finish. Accessories included with the pool table: four professional and stylish cues, one set of Pool Balls Aramith and one rack. Cue rack and ceiling lamp are also available on request. Indoor use only. "T1" is the product of an encounter between an entrepreneur and a designer, a project that becomes a reality thanks to the savoir faire of a group of Italian companies highly specialized in making individual components: glass, steel, wood, but also special high-tech polymers for the pockets and the bumpers. A great team effort at the service of an original and elegant idea that puts together imagination, entrepreneurial brilliance, technology and ability, in order to reveal and give life to a unique object. "T1" pool table is available in an eight feet version, ideal for modern homes’ living spaces. The crystal in the T1 pool table now glows with light, its exquisite transparency accentuated. Studio Sadler researched and designed a unique LED lighting system, captivating crystal’s beauty shines. Teckell’s pool tables are a synthesis of innovation and tradition, art and design, technology and craftsmanship. These one-of-a-kind objects are the result of thinking way outside the box and maximizing the capacity of materials. MARC SADLER, French citizen born in Austria, currently lives in Milan. Experimentation with plastics has often formed a key part of his activity. He already showed a strong curiosity for the subject choosing it for his thesis at ENSAD in Paris. Citizen of the world (he has lived and worked for many years in Europe, North America and Asia), he is a consultant for companies in the fields of home furnishings, large and small household appliances, lighting, technically advanced products, and sports. At the beginning of the seventies, he perfect the first ski-boot in thermo plastic material completely recyclable, subsequently commercialized by the Italian firm Caber (later known as Lotto). He quickly gains the responsibility of the entire collections and starts a long and fruitful collaboration which led to the patenting of the ski-boot with a symmetric shell, which was for many years the most widely-sold ski-boot in the world. This is the origin of his specialization as a sports designer, which led him to close collaboration with the most important multinational sport companies in the United States, Asia and Europe, both in the sport shoes and in other sport fields: ski, tennis raquets, golf clubs, etc. Working in this sector, which has often pioneered research into new materials and techniques, provided the experience to enable him to bring innovation to more traditional areas where is set a concept of design as pure aesthetic shape. Awarded 4 times with the Compasso d’Oro ADI (Industrial Design association) for the lamps Drop (Flos, 1994), Tite and Mite (Foscarini, 2001), the bookshelf Big (Caimi Brevetti...
