The inspiration for Mary Dwyer's work revolves around storytelling, historic events, a love of political cartoons and early portraiture paintings. An integral part of this work is research. Spurred by an innate curiosity, she creates political, historical and personal paintings. In the last few years Dwyer has been researching and painting the American Suffrage movement. In this research she discovered that the people working as both Suffragists and Abolitionists also started their own newspapers and published their own pamphlets. They became journalists, as no one was covering their story.
Dwyer's paintings are a celebration of both the voter’s rights activist and the visual pageantry of the Suffrage movement. The use of color in her Suffrage paintings speak to the vibrant pageantry and the visual marketing used during the movement. Sashes, button, banners, flags and ribbons were made by women and marketed for women.
The significance of free press is paramount in a free and fair society. The importance of journalist has become a theme that has continued in her present work.

Additional NYC solos include Bond Gallery, 490 Gallery, BOE, and MBM Gallery, and a large scale public art piece at One Main Window in Dumbo, Brooklyn. She has also presented major works at Kenise Barnes Fine Art, DFN Gallery, Lesley Heller Workspace, many years at “Take Home a Nude” for The New York Academy at Sotheby’s and numerous art fairs, and university galleries.
Recent museum exhibitions include a solo at Kunstlade Museum, Zittau, Germany, The Hunterdon Museum in Clifton, NJ twice. as a featured artist in Munich at the Haus der Kunst Contemporary Art Institute. PS1 Museum of Modern Art, NYC, The Kotonah Museum of Art, NY, The Virginia Museum of Fine Art, and Shore Institute of Contemporary Art, Long Branch, NJ. She currently has a painting in the exhibition Beyond Suffrage at The Museum of the City of New York.
Lynch’s work has been featured and written about in numerous publications including The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Art and Antiques magazine, American Art Collector magazine, German Bunte magazine, Oxford American magazine, and NY Arts magazine among many other publications. Rene Lynch has had several catalogues published about her work. Her art is featured on the cover of Boulevard Magazine Spring 2018. Her paintings were recently featured in scenes with Richard Gere in the film Norman.
Her work can be found in numerous private and public collections throughout the United States, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Turkey, Russia and Japan.
Rene Lynch studied painting and art history at Virginia Commonwealth University, The Business of Art, Curatorial Studies Program, New York University, and Printmaking, Manhattan Graphics Center.
Lynch has been awarded several fellowships, including; two fellowships from P.S.1 Museum of Modern Art, NYC, four fellowships from The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and two fellowships from Oberpfalzer Kunstlerhaus, Germany, and AIR Ruhpolding, Germany, also The Manhattan Graphic Center for printmaking, and the Millay Colony, NY and twice from Soaring Gardens, PA, and Palenville InterArts, NY among others.
She has been invited to give Artists Talks at the Brooklyn Museum, NY, the Aldrich Museum, CT, the Hunterdon Museum, NJ, the Kunstlade Museum, Germany, Sotheby's Auction House, NY, Chelsea Art Museum, NY, Abrons Art Center, NY, New York Foundation for the Arts, New York Academy of Art, NY, Lumine, Tokyo, Japan, Umeda Gallery, Osaka, Japan, Jenkins Johnson Gallery, NYC, Kenise Barnes Gallery, NY, Pratt Institute, NY, Red Dot Art Fair, NY, Metaphor Contemporary Art , NY, Tribeca Arts Center, Manhattan Community College, Marymount Manhattan College, Kutztown University, PA, Simmons College, MA, LIU, Brooklyn, NY
Lynch is co-founder/director/curator of Metaphor Contemporary Art with Julian Jackson. Since 2001, they have presented over 90 solo and group exhibitions of new works by hundreds of artists at their Brooklyn, NY gallery, and at several international art fairs, placed numerous works in private and public collections including US Embassies, banks, hotels and hospitals, published several exhibition catalogs, and presented numerous artists’ and critics’ talks and panel discussions. Mandala represents "wholeness" and is also used as an aid in meditation.
The term mandala has become a generic way of describing any circular geometric pattern. The word mandala originated from Sanskrit which means “Circle”. Early versions of the Mandala can be found in the Hindu faith where we would see geometric shapes representing deities. Buddhism took this concept one step further and today if you speak to someone in the Buddhist faith they will tell you that these paintings are in essence a 3 dimensional celestial palace with rooms that contains deities. Let’s call this a mind map, a map to help us further our spiritual journey. Our collection will focus almost entirely on Buddhist Mandalas, a Mandala by Buddhist standards will respect certain basic rules of composition and geometric proportion, although each painting you see is unique in its own way, we will try and cover some of these basic iconographic rules. A Mandala almost always consists of two elements, an outer circle combined with a square positioned inside. In most cases these circles or rings create a pure space protected from external impurities and negative forces.
The number of these circles can differ from one painting to another. In almost all mandalas the outermost circle will show flames which commonly represents protection and the innermost circle with be lotus petals which is the Buddhist symbol for purity. This imagery is typical of Mandalas and Thangkas in general which is why almost all deities are seated on lotus thrones. The square represents this symbolic palace or mind map, which is mentioned in the previous section. Any Mandala will always contain a principle deity it can be painted or symbolized by a lotus flower in the case of the Kalachakra Mandala...
