Crystel "Bone" Series Candlesticks Designed by Elsa Peretti for Tiffany Co
By Elsa Peretti for Tiffany Co.
Located in Doraville, GA
A pair of hand crafted "Bone" series crystel candlesticks designed by Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Company in the mid 1980's. Elsa Peretti (1940 - 2021) was an Italian fashion model, designer and muse of fashion designer Halston during the 1970's and 1980's. Peretti designed jewelry for Halston's collections, in 1974 Halston introduced Peretti to the CEO of Tiffany's, Walter Hoving, she was signed immediately. By 1978 Peretti was Tiffany's leading designer. At the height of Peretti's popularity in the 1980's, she left New York and moved to an abandoned village she had bought in the 1970's near Barcelona, Spain. Between 2009 and 2011, Peretti designs represented 10% of Tiffany's profits. In 2012, Peretti signed a 20 year contract with Tiffany for 49 million dollars. During Peretti's time in Spain in the 1980's, she branched out into homeware with pieces in china, crystel and silver. The crystel "Bone" series candlesticks were designed during this period. Peretti's pieces are owned by the Museum Of Modern Art in New York, the British Museum in London and the Museum Of Fine Arts in both Boston and Houston. The candlesticks measure approximately 11 3/8 inches tall, 2 7/8 inches wide and 2 3/8 inches deep. Both are acid etch signed on the bottom, the signature is very faint, such that it could not be captured in a photo. The candlesticks blue...

Japanese Lacquer Maki-E Scroll Box Fubako by Kansonsai Edo Period
Located in Atlanta, GA
A Japanese lacquered wood fubako (a box to store document or small scroll painting) circa late 18th century of Edo period. The rectangular box features a deep lid with rounded corners and recessed mid-edge and a lower box with two bronze medallion rings and tasseled silk ties. The surface of the fubako was elaborately decorated with hiramaki-e and a low takamaki-e on a mottled Mura-nashiji background. The motifs on the lid depict branches of Japanese pine with finely rendered needles on the lower part; on the upper part, it showcases fruited persimmon branches. Two different shades of gold fundame were used to contrast the design and augmented by scattered gold kirigane to highlight some of the leaves. The design continues and cascades down to all sides of the lid as well as the walls of the box. The two bronze medallions appear original to the box and the silk ties show significant fading from the age. This Fine fubako is signed on the lower wall "Kanshosai" in Kanji with a kao mark. All the trims were finished in gold fundame and the interiors a dense nashiji in gold. Kanshosai is the mark of the distinguished lacquer artist Lizuka Toyo I who also signed his work "Toyosai". He was active in the second half of the 18th century during Edo period, employed by Hachisuka Shigeyoshi (1738-1801), daimyo of Awa on Shikoku Island. Although most survived work bearing his marks are inros, he was also known to decorated trays and other larger objects...

Large Japanese Blue and White Vase by Mazuku Kozan Meiji Period
By Makuzu Kozan
Located in Atlanta, GA
A striking blue and white vase from the studio of Japanese Potter Makuzu Kozan, also known as Miyagawa Kozan (1842–1916), one of the most established and collected ceramist from Meiji Period. Born as Miyagawa Toranosuke, Kozan established his pottery studio in Yokohama around 1870s and later became one of the appointed artist to the Japanese Imperial household. His work was exhibited in many international fairs that the Meiji government participated at the turn of the century and won many grand prizes. With a relative large size, this vase is decorated with underglaze cobalt blue using the novel technique developed by Kozan called Fuki-e (the blow painting), in order to achieve the striking dimensional misty winter landscape. The pine trees with upright trunks and down-sweeping branches appear receding into the depth of the mist, forming an visually unending forest. Known as one of the most creative ceramists, around 1880s, Kozan started experimenting with new chemical colors from the West in the format of his porcelain glaze. New colors allowed him to create underglaze design that appeared bright, smooth and glossy. He even invented his own receipt of cobalt blue to achieve a much brighter yet softer shade, as evident on this vase. To create landscape that is realistic and dimensional, more common in the western paintings, he was inspired by the native Japanese ink painting technique developed around 1900 by Yokoyama...

Collection of Three Indian Sandstone Carved Heads of Deities
Located in Atlanta, GA
A collection of three carved sandstone heads on wood display stands from Northern India Rajasthan or Madhya Pradesh, circa 11-12th century. Fragmented from large whole-body statue, these red sandstone heads exhibit very fine carving, typical of Northern Indian Art during the medieval time. Two males and one female, they represent heavenly deities Yakshas and Yakshini. Their facial features were detailed with large almond-shape eyes under thin arched eyebrows. The males have characteristic facial hairs including curvy moustaches and tightly combed beard, both finely carved, and the female wears large spoke loop earrings. They all don fantastical hairstyles with serpent-like spiral locks and some with elaborate knots on top and above the sideburns. These deities are likely celestial musicians. A pair of full-body statues (lot 70) were offered for sale in Christie's Indian and Southeast Asian Art...
