Treesong (Contemporary, Realist Charcoal Landscape Drawing by Sue Bryan)
By Sue Bryan
Located in Hudson, NY
Treesong (Contemporary, Realist Charcoal Landscape Drawing by Sue Bryan) 18 x 24 x 2 inches Charcoal and acrylic on Primed Arches Paper Mounted on Wood Panel Excellent condition, Ready to hang as is This contemporary charcoal landscape drawing on arches paper was completed in 2021 by Sue Bryan. Born in Ireland, the artist uses landscapes from her childhood as inspiration for her current work primarily consisting of beautifully detailed charcoal drawings of trees and wooded landscapes. The artist captures exquisite detail and luminous light with the mere use of black and white charcoal and carbon pencil. The artist creates this tree through a blend of light and shadow that demonstrates the artist's masterful technique. Dark leaves and winding branches in black charcoal contrast elegantly against a light filled sky. There is sturdy wire installed on the back for easy hanging. Artist Statement: "My work is drawing based. As a native of Ireland, the landscape there has certainly shaped and influenced my own history. Many of my drawings are of places that have a deep personal association for me; an endeavor perhaps to stay connected to my roots. My aim is not only to convey a sense of place and belonging, but also an attempt to capture the ineffable, to evoke a feeling or a memory, to invite the viewer to look beyond and beneath what they see. My process is one of building up tones and textures using a combination of charcoal, carbon and graphite, all of which yield a wonderful range of blacks and grays that vary in density and transparency as much as in tonality. Much of drawing’s appeal to me lies in its very constraint, in its simplification, in the reduction of nature’s macrocosm to the coal-black char of organic matter. For me, the act of drawing is an end in itself." About the work: A native of Ireland, Sue Bryan explores the memories of youth rooted in her homeland's landscape. Employing charcoal on both paper and panel, these moody and misty studies reminds us that the water-locked terrain is not always sunny and green. Exquisite detail found in each tree branch or mass of tall grasses lining the horizon dominates the foreground. Light emulates from the background attempting to penetrate the density of opaque cloud cover. Bryan's small scale drawings convey an intimate and highly personal sense of place and belonging. Gerald DiGiusto Caryatids Sculpture American 1976
By Gerald DiGgiusto
Located in Hudson, NY
This sculpture grouping is a maquette to the "Caryatids" grouping and was created in 1976 by listed American artist Gerald Digiusto. The inspiration for Gerald Digiusto to create these was found in a grouping of female form columns located at the Erechtheion in ancient Greece on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens. These were produced from zinc plates Gerald's work can be found in many Museum, public and private collections. Gerald's work can also currently be seen in the new book titled American Beauty by Thom Filicia and in the November 2012 issue of House Beautiful Gerald Digiusto was born June 30, 1929 in New York City, the son of immigrant Italian and Jewish parents. He grew up in Boston, and as a young man served a stone carving apprenticeship in Quincy, Massachusetts. From 1950 to 1954, while stationed in Tokyo with the Air Force, he worked in the studio of the Japanese sculptor...

Specifically Nowhere, Yellow (Abstract Geometric Painting with Grids on Yellow)
By Donise English
Located in Hudson, NY
Large abstract geometric painting with intricate line work in pencil and gouache on a bright yellow background "Specifically, Nowhere (Yellow)" made by Hudson Valley artist, Donise English, in 2022 gouache, acrylic, pencil, and colored pencil on paper, mounted on panel 48 x 48 inches unframed, 50 x 50 inches with a dark brown stained wood floater frame Surface is protected with four coats of an archival UV protective varnish Signed, verso Excellent condition and ready to hang This large abstract geometric painting was made by Hudson Valley based artist, Donise English, in 2022. The composition begins with a bright yellow background overlaid with intricate line work in graphite and colored pencil. Thousands of hand drawn lines serve as a backdrop for a bold geometric form in a dusty violet and dark gray gridded pattern that references "an imagined city grid", says the artist. The painting on paper is mounted to wood panel and complemented with a dark stained wood floater frame. It's in excellent condition and ready to hang as is. The surface is protected with four coats of an archival UV protective varnish. More about the work: Donise English emphasizes lines, grids, and fields of subtle color to evoke imagined places and invented structures. While precise lines and straight angles are often associated with themes in architecture and urban planning designs, English conveys a geometric motif guided by intuition rather than a ruler. Variations on grids retain flaws and unmistakable traces of the artists’ hand; her style of draftsmanship shies away from intellectualism and instead makes her compositions feel very personal. Each design is intensely intricate, incorporating gouache, acrylic, pen, graphite, ink and colored pencil. Artist Statement: My work is about the way visual diagrams present information that describes how something is made or the way it is. I am interested in drawing and collaging multiple layers of information that refer abstractly to maps, architectural drawings and blueprints or patterns and structures found in such things as roller coasters, power lines and fences. I use gouache and collaged paper in a series of layers that are a visual and ideological response to the previous layer to define my pictorial space. For each piece I create a set of rules to follow about the use of a limited palette, a grid format, opacity of paper and whether a piece may include curving lines or maintain a rectilinear structure. No. 2: Abstract Expressionist Oil on Canvas Paper in Blue, Teal Light Pink
By Jenny Nelson
Located in Hudson, NY
Abstract expressionist style painting on canvas paper in teal, dark blue, and pink with accents of green 'Untitled 2 (Blue & Pink)' by Jenny Nelson Oil on canvas paper, Painted in 2016 14.5 x 10.5 inch painting in 20 x 16 inch white 8-ply mat This modern abstract expressionist oil painting was painted by Woodstock, NY based artist, Jenny Nelson, in 2016. The colorful abstract is composed of calming tones of teal and dark blue. The contrasting patches of pinks and green beautifully pop against the subtle pale pink background. Color is applied in light layers which is noticeable in the faint yet visible under tones of the painting. The oil painting includes an 20 x 16 inch 8 ply matte and is signed on the lower right hand corner. About the Artist: It is with her commitment to a lifelong, organic process that Jenny Nelson has achieved what so many artists and creatives work for; a language and a technique that is very much her own. She has wooed audiences here and abroad with consistently exquisite and balanced abstract paintings in neutral palettes of blues and grays that give way to pops of pink and orange. But to pin her as solely an abstractionist would be limiting her skill and versatility as a painter. Classically trained at Bard College, Nelson’s thorough knowledge of composition and color relationships as experienced through drawing from life are the tools that prepared her to work in abstraction and develop her technique. Nelson begins all her paintings the same way; she mixes an extensive palette of colors, preps the square canvas, and goes to town obliterating the surface with lots of color and wild gestures using oil sticks and brushes. After sitting with the discomfort and rawness that remains, Nelson turns the canvas around and around until a shape or color comes to the foreground. The next step is reductive as she blocks out bits of chaos with a solid color applied with a palette knife, oil sticks and brushes. Tension is built through the push and pull of paint as it is layered over colors and unruly forms. Nelson studies the painting at all stages of this process, waiting for it to communicate the next step until harmony and balance is achieved. Each work, with its own identity demanding attention and complete surrender to the process, may seem daunting at the onset. But Nelson is comforted by the perspective that painting is infinite and each new canvas is just one of many, therefore easing her expectations. Some pieces in this new body of work differ from previous paintings in that the abstractions are once again rooted in life. Inspired by the photographs of artist Joseph Podlesnik, Nelson uses his architectural and observational compositions as the framework for her new work. While the origins of the photographs’ subjects are not recognizable in the finished painting, she channels the energy discovered in his real-life findings to her canvas for a result that is entirely abstract. Invigorated by this approach, Nelson bravely moves forward, prepared to shift genres if that is where her journey takes her. A graduate of Bard College, Jenny Nelson also studied at the Lacoste School of the Arts in France and Maine College of Art. She completed a Residency at Byrdcliffe Art Colony from 2004 – 2008 and has exhibited regionally and nationally for many years. Nelson currently teaches workshops and an ongoing weekly class at the Woodstock School of Art. More about the artist: Jenny Nelson attended Maine College of Art in Portland Maine, and is a graduate of Bard College, where she received a scholarship to the Lacoste School of the Arts in France. She has been living in Woodstock, New York for nearly two decades, including a Residency at the Byrdcliffe Art Colony from November 2004-08. Jenny has been exhibiting for many years nationally and regionally including, Tria Gallery, Manhattan, NY; Hidell Brooks Gallery in Charlotte, North Carolina; Carrie Haddad, Hudson, NY. Lily Pond (Realist Black White Landscape Photo of Floating Botanicals)
By Betsy Weis
Located in Hudson, NY
Minimalist landscape photograph of black and white lilies on water "Lily Pond", photographed by Betsy Weis in 2006 archival inkjet print on watercolor paper 20 x 30 inches, 27 x 37 inches in white frame with white mat & anti-reflective non-glare glass Wire backing for easy installation, ready to hang as is Photographed at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, this black and white archival pigment print by Betsy Weis captures a cluster of water lilies afloat on a glassy, onyx-like body of water. Looming clouds are reflected in the pond's serene surface. Crisp, moody, and rich in texture, the photograph can stand on its own as a quiet glimpse at nature, or can be juxtaposed with others in the series to form a more complete vision. This photograph is available unframed, $1700. The image measures 20 x 30 inches, and the paper measures 24 x 26 inches. Artist statement: Nature provides the perfect model of beauty, according to Plato and Socrates. In the classical period, something was considered beautiful because it existed in nature; art was secondary. In the 18th Century, the German philosopher Johann Joachim Winckelmann argued against the idea that art imitates life, believing that qualities superior to nature are found in art, specifically, ideal beauty, and “brain-born images”. Neoclassical thought represented that art need not serve any end other than its own existence. For me, beauty is an ideal, nature is real, and art comes from the brain. S.S. United States Aluminum Grand Stairway Hand Rails
Located in Hudson, NY
These aluminum handrails which once graced the center of the grand staircase of the S S United States exemplifies the sophisticated sleek aesthetic of Mid-Century American design. When launched in July 1952 the S S United States was the culmination of years planning and design. On the heels of WW II, the U S Government saw the need to have modern ships that could be easily converted to troop transport ships in wartime constructed with safety and speed as the top priorities. They worked in partnership with the United States Line and underwrote a great deal of the liner's finished cost of 72 million as well as the future operating and maintenance cost of this proud symbol of her country and her age. The designer of the ship William Francis Gibbs had to incorporate the requirements of the government into his designs for the great liner. From her knife-edge bow across the superstructure and a pair of massive blue white and red raked funnels to the perfect arc of her stern, she sat proudly in the water and conveyed a sense of movement and speed even when still. His design incorporated a "secret" hull, numerous bulkheads which limited the grand open spaces of most liners of the time, no flammable material used in construction and fitting out other than the Steinway grand piano...

Beneath the Shining Sun (abstracted field of flowers in yellow and pastel)
By Ragellah Rourke
Located in Hudson, NY
Abstract acrylic painting on canvas with a pastel purple, yellow, and green palette “Beneath the Shining Sun”, painted by Ragellah Rourke in 2022 30 x 30 inches, oil on canvas Sides are cleanly painted so additional framing is optional Wire backing for easy hanging Artist signature located on the back This contemporary, abstract painting was created by Hudson Valley based artist, Ragellah Rourke in 2022. Her most recent body of work focuses on relationships between color and space. Elements of symbolism, reminiscent of Gustav Klimt, decorate the composition with abstract markings and calligraphic gestural brushwork. Warm yellow and purple tones with hints of green radiate upwards into a background of white, recalling the awaking the nature during the beginning of spring. There is wire installed on the back for easy hanging. The painting’s sides are cleanly painted so additional framing is optional. Artist Statement: My paintings are very textural and built up slowly over long periods of time. The surface holds the memory of the painting’s development, all the time looking for clues for what will come next. I look for connections between the forms that develop. They are never something that I logically calculate, but rather a long string of chances, thoughts, and guesses. The appearance and meaning develop throughout the progression of the painting. It is a continuous search for resolution, balance and mystery within the painting.
