"Flittering and Fluttering" Folk Art inspired linoleum print of birds, deep aqua
By Lisa Houck
Located in Wellesley, MA
Lisa Houck is a highly established artist from Boston, recently re-located to Maine, with a very large following devoted to her exceptional paintings, watercolors, mosaics and prints reminiscent of Folk Art, Matisse and Aborigine art. Houck is widely admired and recognized for a gorgeous sense of color and a sensibility both playful and serious that is uniquely her own. This is one of her 3 most recent large format bird prints in various shades of blue and aqua in a series which now consists of a total of 10 related prints. They are outstanding installed individually or as groups. Houck's highly sophisticated and complex sense of pattern and design is delightfully whimsical, as well as extraordinarily compelling for its knowledge of so many artistic forms which the artist is miraculously able to reference and incorporate, while maintaining a style so distinctively recognizable as her own. Lisa Houck "Flittering and Fluttering" 2023 Linoleum Block Print Edition 10 35.25 x 23.25 Inches This print is not framed. Lisa Houck has an outstanding reputation for not only her work as a printmaker but for achievements in painting, watercolor, mosaic and textiles as well. She has executed many large permanent public art commissions for interior and exterior sites in Boston and nationwide including ambitious murals for Dana Farber, The Children's Hospital, Frieda Garcia Park and numerous libraries, playgrounds and other public buildings. Her works have been featured in many museum and gallery exhibitions and are included in a multitude of public and private collections. Artist's Statement: "I work in watercolor, oil on wood, ceramics, mosaics and etching. Each medium allows me to invent new ways to express my view of nature through color and pattern. My artwork has been exhibited widely, and is in numerous public and private collections, including The Boston Athenaeum, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston Children's Hospital, Fidelity Investments, four libraries in Broward County Florida, Hale and Dorr, Massachusetts General Hospital, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston." "Western Moment"
Located in North Adams, MA
Renowned painter and printer, Gary Lichtenstein demonstrates true abstract expressionism via his spectacular use of color. His paintings and silkscreen prints, more than 200 oil-based and water-based works to date, exhibit mastery of the properties of light absorption and reflection, specifically with regard to the visual impact of color. Inspired by artists such as Robert Motherwell and Helen Frankenthaler, Lichtenstein creates canvases which have frequently been described as ethereal, and he has been praised as one who manages to capture a “sense of no-self…” In fact, the composition of Lichtenstein’s work has been referred to as atmospheric... “evocative of natural forms and phenomena.” In addition, Lichtenstein has collaborated with over one hundred artists during the course of his 49-year career. Despite, and because of, rich historical influences, Gary Lichtenstein’s vision and artistic intellect are uniquely his own and clearly evident throughout the enormous portfolio of work that spans his career. Lichtenstein’s work has been shown and collected by, among others, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield, CT, New York’s Museum of Modern Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian, the San Francisco Art Institute, the San Francisco International Art Expo, the Chicago Art Institute, the Butler Institute of American Art, the College of Art & Architecture at the University of Tennessee, the Silvermine Arts Center, the International Print Center NYC, the Boston World Art Fair, the New York International Exhibit of Contemporary Art, and Art Asia (Hong Kong). Solo exhibitions in New York, San Francisco, Tokyo, and Hong Kong have been celebrated at the Rubicon Gallery, Susan Todd Gallery, Galerie Enatsu, and the Modernism Gallery. The Fried screen print collection can be found at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Whitney Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco. “Not enough has been written about Gary’s personal work as a painter and printmaker. The work, which can be categorized as “Color Field” has been informed by diverse influences, many of them not readily apparent to the casual viewer. One inescapable fact is despite Gary’s roots on the East Coast his artistic outlook has really been tempered by his thirty years in California, and by the Bay area in particular. Working with fabled San Francisco screen printer Robert Fried...

"A Woman Who Other Women Wish Wouldn t Come To The Parties"
Located in North Adams, MA
"I would look up at the ceiling, imagine myself as the character in her dilemma and draw – on napkins, scrap paper, the backs of paper menus. The rule was, I had to write the subject down first, and when I looked down, I was finished. Not all the drawings work, of course. At times I go right off the page. At times they are incoherent or emotionally flat. The truth is, the drawings only work when I succeed in becoming the woman in the drawing in my own head – I need to get under her skin, feel what she feels. Affiche pour l Exposition Miro-Artigas, 1963
By Joan Miró
Located in Sheffield, MA
Joan Miro Spanish, 1893-1983 Affiche pour l'Exposition Miro-Artigas, 1963 Lithograph on Rives paper 33" x 22 1/4" W/frame 33 ¾ by 23 in. Pencil signed lower right from an edition of 174/200. Joan Miró Ferra was born April 20, 1893, in Barcelona Spain, the son of a goldsmith and watchmaker.  At the age of 14, he went to business school in Barcelona and also attended La Lonja's Escuela Superior de Artes Industriales in the same city.  Upon completing three years of art studies, and under pressure from his parents, he took a position as an accounting clerk. After suffering a nervous breakdown, he abandoned business and resumed his art studies, attending Galí's Escola d'Art in Barcelona from 1912 to 1915.  Miró's work before 1920 showed the latest artistic influences, including the bright colors of the Fauves* and the geometric forms of Cubism*. It was in Paris through the 1920s-1930s where, under the influence of Surrealist* poets and writers, Miró evolved his mature style.  His latest works drew on the Surrealist principles of memory, fantasy, and the irrational to create visual art.  Miró's works were also shaped by the flat, two-dimensionality of his native Catalan folk art, Spanish Romanesque...

Born and raised Puerto Rican in New York City, by age 15 he was an influential first-generation subway graffiti artist known as “BOMB-ONE.” His friendship and artistic collaboration with high school schoolmate Jean-Michel Basquiat on SAMO, (a late 70s Avant-garde graffiti tag project) has been noted often in contemporary art history. Díaz later contributed percussion to numerous musical recordings and performances, including Basquiat’s historic 1983 record, “Beat Bop,” (considered to be one of the earliest hip-hop albums...

Repeat
Located in North Adams, MA
In 1984, Eric Orr and Keith Haring joined forces to create a series of chalk drawings in the NYC subways. As their work evolved, the artists shifted their focus from the subway to the studio and embarked on the production of a suite of drawings. Included in the group was Repeat which had made its first appearance in the 23rd Street IRT uptown station. Little did Orr and Haring know that the reimagined drawing would be auctioned at Christie’s six years later. 2020 heralds a new beginning for Repeat, a truly unique silkscreen print that both illustrates and celebrates a fierce friendship that began in the early 1980s at The Roxy roller rink in NYC, when two young artists decided to trade t-shirts on the dance floor. Repeat, Eric Orr and Keith Haring, 2020 Silkscreen on 320 gram Coventry Rag paper with hand-deckled edges Dimensions: 20 x 28 inches Edition Size: 250 with 25 Artist Proofs and 25 Printer Proofs Signed and numbered in pencil by Eric Orr Plate signed by Eric Orr and Keith Haring Courtesy of Eric Orr and the Keith Haring Foundation Printed and Published by Gary Lichtenstein...
