Graphic Classics
Located in New York, NY
Discover 500 of the world’s greatest graphic designs in one big, bold, and brilliant volume This deep dive into graphic design history presents the work of more than 400 designers across 33 countries and 5 continents, with work dating back to the 14th century. Reimagined from the Phaidon best-seller Graphic: 500 Designs that Matter, the book’s dizzying array of designs range from the Gutenberg Bible to Joy Division album art, with work by both anonymous creators and industry icons such as Aleksandr Rodchenko, Paul Rand, Paula Scher, Ahn Sang-soo, and Julia Born. The generous format and two-part design structure allows designs to be shown in detail, with large images up front and a 300+ word text for each entry in the back – making this equal parts picture and reading book. A design category key adds functionality while indicating the sheer variety of disciplines at work within one medium, from advertising and information design to posters, books, magazines, and logos. This book is the perfect reference guide for design and art lovers, enthusiasts, and professionals at any stage of their careers, as well as all those interested in and impacted by visual communication. Carefully revised to bring every detail up to date, organized chronologically, and with the addition of 50 new examples that highlight designers reshaping the graphic culture of today, this collection is more comprehensive, compelling – and relevant – than ever before. Featured designers include: Reza Abedini, Otl Aicher, Herbert Bayer, Max Bill, Laurenz Brunner, A. M. Cassandre, Joseph Churchward, Alan Fletcher, Federica Fragapane, Graphic Thought Facility, Béla Horovitz, Eric Hu, Shira Inbar, Tibor Kalman, Amos Paul Kennedy, Jr., Frith Kerr and Amelia Noble, Anita Klinz, El Lissitzky, George Lois, Karel Martens, Bruno Munari, Nontsikelelo Mutiti, Hassan Rahim, Aleksandr Rodchenko, Stefan Sagmeister, Koichi Sato...

Maximalism: Bold, Bedazzled, Gold, and Tasseled Interiors
By Phaidon
Located in New York, NY
A decadent and extravagant celebration of interior style, featuring more than 220 maximalist residential interiors, from the 1600s to the present day This unique visual collection celebrates the very best contemporary Maximalist interior design and makes the connection to a much longer historical tradition of excess. Maximalism is a style that has been with us, in one guise or another – for example, in the castles, palazzi, chateaux, and historic homes of bygone ages – for more than 400 years. This richly illustrated volume, with metallic gold ink used throughout, features the most extraordinary Maximalist interiors from all over the globe, from centuries past and present, transcending both time and geography. An intense and thrilling journey through the magic and mayhem that is Maximalism – a book that is as much an experience as it is a book – its luxurious pages are layered, loud, and louche, chaotic, colorful, and controversial, but also romantic, joyous, and imbued with personality, history, and storytelling. Featured designers include Jonathan Adler, Alidad, Sig Bergamin, Thomas Britt, Denning and...

Cartier High Jewelry Exhibition Coffee Table Book, 1997
Located in New York, NY
CARTIER 1900 - 1939 Paris, London, New York. This special hard-cover book was published in honor of the exhibition, 'Cartier 1900 - 1939', held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, from April 2, 1997, through August 3, 1997, and the British Museum, London, from October 3, 1997, through February 1, 1998. This exhibition was organized jointly by the two museums. Foreword by: Dr. Robert G. W. Anderson, Director, British Museum "The firm of Cartier is widely recognized as one the world's greatest designers and manufacturers of jewellery and objects d'art. This exhibition is timed to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the founding of the company in Paris in 1847." Preface: Judy Rudoe, Department of Medieval and Later Antiquities, British Museum "Previous exhibitions devoted to Cartier have encompassed the entire period of the firm's history, from 1847 to the present. The aim of this exhibition is to take a fresh look at a more closely defined period, from around 1900, when the firm's distinctive style becomes identifiable, to the end of the 1930s, which saw a dramatic change of style that led to a quite different aesthetic." A gorgeous exhibition book highlighting the first four decades of the 20th century when the renowned Paris-based firm known as Cartier expanded to London and New York. Specially taken photographs present a breathtaking array of necklaces, bracelets, brooches, rings, as well as cigarette cases, clocks, and objects d'art. 450+ illustrations, 350 in full color. A great piece to start a collection, add to one, display on a coffee table, library shelf, etc. Author: Judy Rudoe Publisher: Harry N. A Rare 1859 Elkington Silvered Bronze Victorian "Trophy" Centerpiece
By Elkington Mason Co.
Located in Queens, NY
A Rare and Historic 1859 Elkington Silvered Bronze Victorian Centerpiece with Cut-Glass Bowl. Presenting a magnificent Victorian silvered bronze centerpiece of unmatched rarity and importance, crafted by the renowned Elkington Mason Co., Birmingham, in 1859. This exceptional work, complete with its original cut-glass bowl, epitomizes 19th-century British craftsmanship and artistry. Hallmarked to the base, this centerpiece showcases intricate sculptural details, embodying a high level of technical prowess and aesthetic refinement characteristic of Elkington's celebrated works. The centerpiece's striking design features three meticulously rendered figures—a young hunter, a friar, and a fishmonger—each embodying elements of Victorian life and industry. At their feet, a loyal spaniel and various game highlight the naturalistic approach to the composition, enhanced by the masterful chasing and dynamic form. This sculptural ensemble rests on an elaborately decorated base, exuding both grandeur and narrative depth. Adding profound historical value are two engraved plaques. The first, dated “January 28, 1859,” reads: “Presented to William Johnson Esq. as a token of respect esteem by the workpeople in the employ of Messrs Richard Johnson Brother, Manchester.” The second, an inscription from 1941, states: “Worshipful Company of Tin Plate Workers, Alias Wire Workers of the City of London, Presented by Arthur Laurence Johnson M.A., Grandson of William Johnson, both Wire Workers, with his Daughter Eleanor Morton Johnson, a Freeman of the Company, to commemorate his Mastership 1941-42.” These inscriptions chart a rich lineage, connecting the Johnson family to pivotal moments in industrial history. William Johnson, alongside his brother Richard, assumed leadership of a wire-drawing firm in 1838, which would later become Richard Johnson Nephew Ltd. Their contributions included providing galvanized armored wire for the historic 1857 transatlantic telegraph cable...

Located in New York, NY
"The Cartier of our time." —Christies. "Exquisitely refined creations. Rosenthal made jewellery modern but infused it with the timelessness of perfection." —Telegraph. "The Faberge´ of our time." —Diane von Furstenberg. Volume I showcases a selection of the jewels made since the shop's founding in 1978 up to "The Jewels of JAR - Paris" exhibition, held at Somerset House in London (November 2002 - January 2003.) Volume II presents a selection of works created between 2002 and up to JAR's exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2014. About JAR Since opening JAR in 1978, with the help of his Swiss friend Pierre Jeannet, Joel Arthur Rosenthal, has become one of the world's most sought after jewellery designers. A native New Yorker, Rosenthal moved to Paris after graduating from Harvard and has lived in the city for most of his adult life. He experimented in scriptwriting and then needlepoint, opening a shop where he experimented with unusually coloured yarns. It's clientele included designers from Herme`s and Valentino. Rosenthal was one day asked if he could design a mount for a gemstone, setting his career in a new direction. His signature includes setting gems in pave arrangements, so finely wrought as to be virtually invisible. Rosenthal uses...

Art in Vienna 1898-1918, 4th Edition Book
Located in New York, NY
The rebel artists of Vienna overwhelmed the artistic establishment of Europe at the end of the 19th century, having seceded from the traditional Viennese institutions of Fine art and named themselves the Vienna Secession. Their works shocked a conservative public, but their daring sensibilities and dedication to the applied arts and architecture soon brought them an enthusiastic following and wealthy patronage. The boldly modernist paintings of Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka and others were matched by the buildings and applied designs of architects such as Joseph Maria Olbrich, who created the Secession Building as an architectural manifesto for the group. This Classic book, now updated and with additional colour illustrations and a completely new introductory chapter, brilliantly traces the course of this influential artistic movement. Contents and sections: Introduction Vienna 1900 Secession The Beginnings The First Exhibition The Dedication of the House: Second Exhibition Ver Sacrum III–VI Exhibitions The ‘Klimt Affair’ – The University Paintings Exhibitions 1900–1902 Beethoven 1902 XVI–XVIII Exhibitions, 1903 The Split within the Secession Architecture and the Applied Arts The Ringstrasse and the Architecture of Historicisim Otto Wagner, 1841–1918 Joseph Maria Olbrich, 1867–1908 Josef Hoffmann, 1870–1956 The Wiener Werkstätte Palais Stoclet – The Stoclet Frieze Kabarett Fledermaus Alfred Roller, 1864–1935 Hoffmann’s Later Work Adolf Loos, 1870–1933 Kunstschau 1908–1909: The Early Work of Kokoschka and Schiele Kunstschau 1908 Oskar Kokoschka, 1886–1980 Richard Gerstl...
