Romare Bearden, Dreams of Exile (Green Snake), 1971, by African-American, signed
By Romare Bearden
Located in New York, NY
A North Carolina native, the African-American Romare Bearden spent most of his career in New York City. For several decades he was a social worker in Harlem. But of course he traveled widely, read and studied with great care, and created a phenomenal body of work. This 1971 lithograph is a good example of his oeuvre -- far reaching though it may be. It speaks to his skill and knowledge of contemporary printmaking while featuring a complex subject representative of his interests. A lush jungles is packed with flora and fauna. 'Green Snake' is part of the title and there is a particularly winsome reptile showing up so well on the sand-colored border between the dense forest and the aquamarine water. There are of course many other land and sea animals showing themselves -- even a curious ginger cat...

Basquiat Gray 1980
By Jean-Michel Basquiat
Located in NEW YORK, NY
Jean-Michel Basquiat (untitled) Gray 1980: Basquiat illustrated & printed this exceptionally rare flyer for his band Gray in 1980. Executed similarly in the manner of his well-documented Anti-Product Cards of the period - Basquiat draws over a found image, then employs his famous William Burroughs style 'cut-up' technique; completing the piece by abstractly scrawling the word, 'Gray' above. Few known to have survived. Not to be passed upon. Literature: Jean-Michel Basquiat 1981: The Studio of the Street', (Deitch, Cortez, Vassell); Seeing Loud: Basquiat and Music (Buchhart, Bessières, Desmarais). Exhibited: Jean-Michel Basquiat 1981: The Studio of the Street: Jeffrey Deitch Gallery, New York, 2006; New York, New Music 1980-86: Museum of the City of New York (2021); Montreal Museum of Fine Arts: Seeing Loud: Basquiat and Music (2022); Basquiat Soundtracks: The Philharmonie de Paris, 2023 (The Paris Philharmonic). Further background as follows: Medium: Color Xerox on paper. 1980. Dimensions: 8.5 x 11 inches. Condition: Good overall vintage condition; scattered soiling marks; minor signs of handling & aging; typewriting on the reverse; minor corner bending in one or more places. La Dame aux Camelias - Sarah Bernhardt (after) Alphonse Mucha, 1969
By Alphonse Mucha
Located in New York, NY
These beautiful and colorful lithographic posters were hand reproduced by the Mourlot Studio's Master Printer Henri Deschamps in 1969. They are not to be mistaken with later cheap digital and giclée reproductions. Ed. 1,500 In December of 1894, Mucha visited a print shop contracted to create a new advertising poster for a play featuring Sarah Bernhardt, the most famous actress in Paris at the time. Mucha volunteered to produce a lithographic poster within two weeks, and on January 1, 1895, the advertisement for the play Gismonda by Victorien Sardou was posted in the city, where it attracted much attention. Bernhardt was so satisfied with the success of this first poster that she signed a six-year contract with the artist. Written by Alexandre Dumas (son) when he was 23 years old, and first published in 1848, "La Dame aux Camélias...

Signed in pencil in the lower right margin, and inscribed "Ponte Trinità, Florence" in pencil the lower left margin. Non-archival paper tape tabs at the top right and left corners on the verso, with minor associated discoloration which presents on the recto. The numerals "325" written in pencil in the lower right margin, in reference to the Rinder catalog number. A beautiful, silvery, early-state impression. Rinder 325 [Rinder 325 iii/vii]. The son of a clergyman, Sir David Young Cameron was born in Glasgow in 1865. After a brief and unhappy dalliance in the fields of business and law, Cameron began attending the prestigious Glasgow School of the Arts in 1881, and later the Edinburgh School of the Arts. At Palmer, Jones founded the art department, coached basketball, taught folk dancing, and played the piano for Sunday services.
