Jean Cocteau, Untitled, from The White Book, 1930
By Jean Cocteau
Located in Southampton, NY
This exquisite lithograph and pochoir with hand coloring by Jean Cocteau (1889–1963), titled Sans titre (Untitled), from the album Le Livre blanc (The White Book), precede dun frontispice et accompagne de 17 dessins de Jean Cocteau (preceded by a frontispiece and accompanied by 17 drawings by Jean Cocteau), originates from the 1930 edition published by Editions du Signe, Paris, printed by Maitres-Imprimeurs, Ducros et Colas, Paris, and hand colored by M.B. Armington (a probable pseudonym of Jean Cocteau), May 10, 1930. The work reflects Cocteaus mastery of linear elegance and psychological nuance, distilling intimacy, vulnerability, and symbolic clarity into a composition that occupies a pivotal place in early twentieth-century modernism and queer cultural history. Executed as a lithograph and pochoir with hand coloring on velin d'Arches paper, this work measures 11.81 x 9.06 inches. Unsigned and unnumbered, as issued. The edition exemplifies the refined craftsmanship of Ducros and Colas, Maitres-Imprimeurs, and the exceptional hand-coloring attributed to Cocteau himself. ARTWORK DETAILS Artist: After Jean Cocteau (1889–1963) Title: Sans titre (Untitled), from the album Le Livre blanc (The White Book), precede dun frontispice et accompagne de 17 dessins de Jean Cocteau (preceded by a frontispiece and accompanied by 17 drawings by Jean Cocteau) Year: 1930 Medium: Lithograph and pochoir with hand coloring on velin d'Arches paper Size: 11.81 x 9.06 inches Inscription: Unsigned and unnumbered, as issued Publisher: Editions du Signe, Paris Printer: Maitres-Imprimeurs, Ducros et Colas, Paris Catalogue Raisonne References: Bezit, Emmanuel. Condition: Well preserved, consistent with age and medium Provenance: From the album Le Livre blanc, published by Editions du Signe, Paris; printed by Ducros et Colas, Paris; hand colored by M.B. Armington (a probable pseudonym of Jean Cocteau), May 10, 1930 NOTES Excerpted from the album (translated from French), This album, whose plates have been entirely colored by hand by M.B. Armington, an artist-painter, was completed to print on May 10, 1930, by Ducros and Colas, Maitres-Imprimeurs in Paris. The draw has been limited to: XVIII examples on japon nacre, each containing one of the XVIII original drawings and a suite on Hollande, numbered from I to XVIII; VI examples, H.C., marked from A to F; XVIII examples on japon imperial, numbered from XIX to XXXVI; VI examples, H.C., marked from G to L; CCCLXXX examples on velin d'Arches, numbered from XXXVII to CDXVI; XXII examples, H.C., marked from A to V. ABOUT THE PUBLICATION Le Livre blanc (The White Book), published in 1930 by Editions du Signe with plates printed by Ducros et Colas and hand colored by the enigmatic M.B. Monotype

5/3/2020
By Ajay Malghan
Located in New York, NY
Ajay Malghan is an American artist and son of immigrant parents from India. His mother was usually found combining cultures at home, and his father, a Materials Scientist and Engineer often brought him to the lab. The daily experimentations happening around him, both personal and scientific, would later inform his work. While his parents wanted him to follow more straightforward career paths, he was the first in his family to eschew their expectations and pursue art and music instead. Malghan went on to receive an MFA in Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design - Hong Kong. Here he experimented in a darkroom, bleaching film, adding watercolor to glass plates, thinly cross-sectioning fruits and vegetables until they formed abstractions, beginning his exploration into the repurposing of materials. In his twenties, Malghan was diagnosed with Leukemia, the treatment of which resulted in avascular necrosis, a bone disease that eventually required numerous surgeries and three hip replacements. His experience through illness and recovery not only led him to photography, but also informs his manipulation of raw, often overlooked materials in order to reorient our understanding of beauty, pleasure, and purpose. Malghan has been exhibited across the country and has lectured in Hong Kong, India, the University of Texas, the University of Notre Dame - Maryland, and UMLAUF Sculpture & Design Museum. He most recently has been commissioned by The Walters Art Museum, and his work is in the private collections of Johns Hopkins...

Andy Warhol Elvis Bearbrick 400% 100%
By Andy Warhol
Located in NEW YORK, NY
Be@rbrick x Andy Warhol Foundation "Elvis" Vinyl Figures: Set of two (400% & 100%): Andy Warhol (after) Elvis collectible trademarked & licensed by the Estate of Andy Warhol. The partnered collectible reveals Warhol's iconic Triple Elvis wrapping the figure in its entirety. Housed in a standout Warhol Elvis collectors' box. Medium: Vinyl Sculpture. Set of two figurines. Dimensions of larger piece: 11 x 5 inches. Condition: New in its original packaging. Warhol foundation trademark featured on lower left of reverse. Published by Medicom from a sold out edition of unknown. Further Background: BE@RBRICKs are a form of collectible toy that resemble a cross between LEGO and well, a bear. These block-style figurines boast teddy bear-style heads that have become an integral pillar of the collectible toy scene. In fact, it wouldn’t be so far-fetched to say that it almost single-handedly carved out the fad of toy collecting in modern times, treading the very fine line between toy and art. Since its inception, BE@RBRICKs have become one of the most recognizable characters in the world, and some of the most sought after. Please note exact patterns may vary. Andy Warhol Triple Elvis: Standing with his trademark proud stance, Andy Warhol’s rare triple portrait of Elvis Presley dominates just as the singer dominated the cultural landscape of the 1950s and 1960s. First shown at the artist’s seminal 1963 exhibition at Irving Blum’s Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles, Warhol’s Elvis paintings...

Blue Circle on Fuchsia
By Ruth Adler
Located in New York, NY
ABOUT THIS PIECE: Color is the foundation of this Canadian artist's work. Her circles start as a mood or idea that eventually evolve into a colored circle. She is curious how different colors interact when they're placed next to each other. Within a digital medium she experiments with intensity of colors and the different sensations colors evoke. Why a circle? When she explores her fascination with this shape, she discovers that the circle represents all that is familiar and comforting. It is the shape of the rising sun, of a mother's nipple, of the iris of the eye, and of a full moon. ABOUT THIS ARTIST: Ruth Adler is a Canadian artist whose mediums include paintings, works on paper, animated films and textiles. She is inspired by the city of Tel Aviv, music (she plays the harmonica) and her personal memories. Jim Kempner Fine Art...
