Love Garden Party (Envy) by Skip Hill, Mixed Media Painting
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
This 26.5" x 29.5" by American artist, Skip Hill, is a vibrant mixed media collage/painting combining abstracted figures with stylized vases and domestic objects, adhering to the stylistic qualities of the Pop Art movement. The abstracted cats and the female figure are the focal points within the composition. Layered textures and material juxtapositions adhere to the assemblage processes. The integration of food bowls, patterned vessels, and foreign script introduces surreal narrative elements and multicultural references, positioning the work within postmodern collage traditions. 'Love Garden Party (Envy)' is on 150 lb paper stock and is hand embellished with inks, acrylic paints and collage, thus creating a unique work of art. Love Garden Party (Envy) is framed with conservation quality, high UV-filtering museum glazing. The painting/collage is signed on the lower front of the work by the artist. The work is framed in a heavy white wooden frame. Skip Hill was born in 1961 in Padre Island, Texas but grew up primarily in Oklahoma City. After attending Oklahoma City University to study Advertising and Marketing, he worked as a graphic designer before relocating in 1987 to Southern California. A two-week trip to Thailand in 1989 turned into a year traveling throughout Southeast Asia while writing for a business magazine based in Bangkok. In 1990 Skip Hill relocated to the Netherlands, immersing himself in the culture and learning the Dutch language. His frequent visits the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum and The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam as well as the Boijman Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, sparked Hill’s interest in creating art inspired by aesthetic concerns over the strictly commercial art he produced during his advertising career. It was during this time abroad that he traveled through Germany, Czechoslovakia and Morocco. After returning to Oklahoma in 1993, Skip Hill studied formally at The University of Oklahoma with conceptual artist Hachivi Edgar Heap of Birds, and influential abstract painter George Bogart...

Meme Money 006: Goochi Sponge, by XVALA, Mixed Media Painting
By XVALA
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
In this mixed media 24"x24" painting by XVALA, the artist colorfully plays with the 'Gucci' brand in tandem with the childhood cartoon series, 'Spongebob.' A 'Goochi Sponge' takes center stage with a play on the 'Gucci' logo as the canvas background. Predominant colors are green, red, and gold on a white background. XVALA's art illuminates the hidden fallout spawned from our high tech Internet age. His Fear Google campaign exposed the decay of privacy and No Delete used hacked nude celebrity photos to highlight loss of control over personal information. The artist has worked with trash from the homes of Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, and others, as well as dirt from the graves of George Orwell and Aldous Huxley. The dirt appears in the New World Order collection as part of a pyramidal, 3D printed, living ant farm...

Landscape Near Cundiyo, NM , by Webb Young, Watercolor Painting on Paper
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
This 20.25" x 27.25" watercolor painting captures a winter landscape near Cundiyo, New Mexico, rendered in a naturalistic style. The foreground is populated with dark green shrubs, their colors providing a stark contrast against the white snow. These elements add a sense of depth and dimension to the scene, drawing the viewer’s eye into the painting. Starting in the foreground and continuing into the distance, is a partially visible dirt trail, blanketed with snow. The mid-ground features rolling hills blanketed in snow and dark foliage. In the background, distant mountains rise against the sky, their peaks slightly obscured by mist or clouds. This not only adds a sense of scale to the scene but also creates an atmospheric effect. The sky, painted in light blue hues, suggests a calm, clear day. The overall tranquil color palette balances the more detailed and textured elements of the composition. The painting is encased in a light brown, wooden frame, with a thin white inner boarder, complimenting the natural theme of the artwork. Webb Young (1913-2005) was a renowned artist known for his depictions of New Mexico landscapes, architecture, and people. Young was born in Covington, Kentucky on September 2, 1913, and his interest in painting began at age 11 with art classes at the Chicago Art Institute. From 1925 through 1928, he studied painting in New Mexico under the famous Southwestern painter, Gerald Cassidy...

Can Hats Favor Fire? Can a Hat Aspire to Higher Things?, by Mark Gilmore
By Mark Gilmore
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
The full frontal female figure is suspended in mid-air with both arms in motion, seemingly about to jump off the canvas. The blurred figure is set against a clear, graphic backdrop of reds, black and other dark tones with a turquoise rectangular box framing the torso of the figure. A simple black wooden frame frames the work. "I have been active in telling stories with images for over 45 years. My fascination with shapes and textures are my earliest memories and everything I have done in my adult life has revolved around these interests. I learned a lot about color, composition and story telling by stripping all sentimentality from these elements and using them for more than 25 years as a designer. Although I enjoy the challenge and variety of commissions, my own work is very personal. My work has always been about expressing the otherness and mystery just underneath everyday life. Reacting to the ephemeral nature of life and mortality. All of my personal paintings are just different ways of expressing one moment, one feeling. I’m describing a place I’ve never been with a language I’ve never spoken but I’ve spent my whole life trying to get there because its my home." -- Mark Gilmore...

Conquest, by Vojna Bastovanovic Casteel, Oil on Canvas, 2021
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
"Conquest," by Vojna Bastovanovic Casteel, is a framed oil on canvas painting from 2021 that features an image of a running horse. Rendered in cool values of blue, purple, white, gray, the painting also features accents of warmer colors like pinks, tan and cream. The cropped view of the running horse accentuates its impression speed, while the emphasis on the rendering of its muscles heightens the physicality of the animal. The urgency of the scene is accentuated by what appears to be an approaching storm. Award winning Serbian artist Vojna Bastovanovic Casteel is known for artworks with natural elements, like people and animals (usually wild tigers and lions), that show selective flashes of realism often distorted by an abstract background. In her professional career, she has created hundreds of square meters of portrait mosaics for public spaces and large churches...
