Located in Madrid, ES
Giacinti Brandi ( 1621-1691 ) " S. Giovannino " 17th Century
Important Baroque painting attributable to the hand of the great Roman old master Giacinto Brandi. It depicts San Giovannino who, with an expression of rare beauty and intensity, turns his gaze toward us who observe this small masterpiece. Giacinto Brandi (1621 – 19 January 1691) was an Italian painter from the Baroque era, active mainly in Rome and Naples. Born in Rome,he was part of the studio of Alessandro Algardi, a noted sculptor who noted that Brandi was more suited to painting. He joined the studio of Giovanni Giacomo Sementi. He traveled to Naples from 1638, and by 1647 had returned to Rome to work under Giovanni Lanfranco, where Brandi befriended Mattia Preti. The two artists would later on, often collaborate. His works are well distributed among baroque Churches of Rome including San Carlo al Corso ceiling frescoes (1670–1671), San Silvestro in Capite, Sant'Andrea al Quirinale, a canvas of Sant'Andrea (1650) in Santa Maria in Via Lata a painting of Martyrdom of the Forty (1660) for the Chiesa delle Santissima Stimmate di San Francesco a Coronation of the Virgin (1680) which serves as main altarpiece for the church of Gesù e Maria, a canvas of the Drunkedness of Noah in the Galleria Corsini, an Assumption (1655) for Santa Maria in Organo in Verona a fresco from Ovid's Metamorphoses (1651–1653) for Palazzo Pamphilj in Piazza Navona, and a Martyrdom of San Biagio for the church of San Carlo ai Catinari a Visione del beato Giovanni di San Facondo (1656) and a Estasi della beata Rita da Cascia (1660) in the Basilica di Sant'Agostino in Campo Marzio San Rocco intercede per i malati di peste (1673) and San Rocco in gloria (1674) in the Chiesa di San Rocco all'Augusteo; Compianto sul Cristo morto (1675–76) in the Chiesa di Sant'Andrea al Quirinale. In 1647, he joined the Congregazione dei Virtuosi al Pantheon in Rome and from 1651 was inducted into the Accademia di San Luca for painters. In 1663, he frescoed the life of Saint Erasmus...

France Acrylic on canvas “Horse Race”, León Lafourcade
By Napoléon III
Located in Valladolid, ES
Amazing painting by Léolaf, the artistic name of León Lafourcade, a French-born artist active between the 19th and 20th centuries. He participated in various exhibitions, including at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants. It depicts an equestrian scene of jockeys racing, capturing the energy and dynamism of the moment. An expressive use of brushwork is evident, with loose, fluid strokes suggesting movement and speed, especially in the background, with a diffuse or ethereal finish. The hazy atmosphere contributes to this feeling. The jockeys wear the characteristic red equestrian jacket...

About painter
dutch painter
Utrecht 1586 - 1666 Utrecht
Painter of genre scenes, generally of peasants, views and landscapes of villages and towns (including some winter landscapes) and some religious and allegorical subjects (mainly at the beginning of his career).
We do not know under whom our painter studied. Seeing the Flemish character of his work, some scholars believe that he could have studied in Flanders, in Antwerp.
Droochsloot was a versatile and productive painter. The central museum in his hometown of Utrecht holds 15 of his paintings, showing the diversity of his work, many other museums exhibit his works
Our painting represents a scene that took place during the Eighty Years' War. This Dutch War of Independence from Spain was a long, slow war that lasted from 1568 to 1648. The war began with a Protestant uprising in Flanders and Holland against the Spanish...

Landscapes, Xalapa, Mexico, Pair of Oils on Canvas, Spanish School, Ca 1840
Located in Madrid, ES
Landscapes, Xalapa, Mexico. Pair of oils on canvas. Spanish school, around 1840.
Provenance: Conde de la Cortina collection, Jalapa, Mexico.
Couple of landscapes framed within the Spanish school of the first half of the 19th century, with a clear romantic affiliation. Both evidence the knowledge of the Dutch classicist landscape, one of the main influences on the Spanish romantic landscape. Thus, we see compositions in "V", closed on the sides and open in the center, very low horizons that allow a wide development of the sky, spaces built in depth based on successive planes subtly differentiated by light and color, and small figures perfectly integrated into the natural setting. In addition, the skies are scenographic and dramatic, with low clouds behind which the golden light characteristic of the classicist landscape filters.
One of the most radical aspects of romantic painting was the attempt to replace large canvases with historical or religious themes with landscapes. They wanted the pure landscape, almost figureless or totally devoid of them, to achieve the heroic significance of history painting. They were based on the idea that human feeling and nature should be complementary, one reflected in the other. In other words, the landscape should arouse emotion and transmit ideas. Thus, landscapers like the author of these canvases tried to express their feelings through the landscape, instead of imitating it. The romantic landscape had two main aspects: the dramatic one, with turbulent and fantastic views, and the naturalistic one, which emphasized images of a peaceful and serene nature. This second conception is what we see embodied in these works; the painter tries to communicate a religious reverence for the landscape, nature in its fullness. In fact, the author's own use of light here conveys a foggy, cloudy, dreamlike atmosphere that invites the viewer to meditate and contemplate himself in the landscape. The romantic landscape is constituted, however, by manifestations of very different types and not comparable to each other; it does not affect all national schools equally, staying more faithful to tradition in schools such as the French or the Dutch. Thus, in this canvas we do not find the grandiose scenery of the British and Germans, the steep mountains or the monumental Gothic ruin...

French Painting "Dahlias and Camellias" Paul Bazé, midcentury France
By Paul Robert Brock
Located in Valladolid, ES
Impressive and very beautiful oil on panel made by Paul Robert Bazé, an artist of French origin. It represents a still life with a bouquet of flowers in the foreground on a dark background. It mainly shows dahlias and camellias, which give the work its name. The traditional still life genre shows its evolution here. It presents the characteristic style of the genre to which it corresponds, realistic and meticulous, especially noticeable in the way it works with the different qualities of the flowers and leaves. The dark background is also inherited from the still life genre, with a marked dark interest reflected in the dark backgrounds. Signed in the lower left corner.
Paul Robert Bazé (1901-1985) was born in Paris, although he soon moved to Bayonne and then to Bordeaux, where he was a student of Paul Quinsac...
