Stoneware Vase by Gunnar Nylund, Rörstrand, Sweden, 1940s
By Gunnar Nylund, Rörstrand
Located in Stockholm, SE
Stoneware vase in a clean form by Gunnar Nylund, the undulating rim softens the form. Vivacious blue glaze with purple streaks. Gunnar Nylund was one of the most influential ceramicists and designers of the Swedish mid-century period. He was Rörstrand’s creative leader from 1931 until 1949 and as such propelled the artistic work at the factory and served as mentor to younger artists, among them Carl-Harry Stålhane and Hertha Bengtsson. Nylund was a dedicated functionalist, who brought ideas of democratizing stoneware and creating beautiful, qualitative and affordable everyday items for the people to Rörstand in the mid-1920s. The factory had at the time lost its former leading market position, but Nylund’s efforts gave it a great reboot. He designed ceramic kitchenware...

Lobster Red Handmade Ceramic Candle Lamp, by Barbro Sundelin for Basun Keramik
Located in Grythyttan, SE
This handmade earthenware candleholder, crafted by Barbro Sundelin for Basun, Sweden in the 1990s, features a striking lobster-red glaze. Its organic design includes a ball-shaped top, a larger circular opening surrounded by drop-shaped cutouts, and small circular openings on the roof. When you light a tea light inside this lobster-red glazed candleholder, the light shines through its various openings, creating intricate patterns that dance across the surrounding surfaces. The combination of circular, drop-shaped, and small openings, results in a captivating display of light and shadow. This unique effect highlights the artistry and craftsmanship of Barbro Sundelin, making the candleholder not just a functional piece, but also a decorative work of art. The combination of cut clay and vibrant red glaze makes this piece a unique and eye-catching addition to any space.
