It is a very expressionist full-face, close-up portrait of a young African American man. The very contrasted lighting makes it very powerful and very sculptural.
Jean-Luc Fievet is best known for his black and white photographs portraying people and everyday street life. His work is marked by both an expressionistic approach for the close-up portraits, as well as a documentary freshness for the street scenes portraying the every-day life of different urban realities.
Jean-Luc’s journey into photography began by recording intimate moments of his family and the families of close friends. When he moved to Paris he discovered a new world that he adopted immediately, the city. His work then led him to New York, where he settled permanently. He states: “Photography for me is a constant exploration of powerful emotions, of sensuality, of the reality around me and the dreams within.”

Countryside, 1988 by Roberta Fineberg is a black-and-white documentary-style portrait of a French woman in the countryside. In northeast France, the Haute-Marne, the subject is photographed against a backdrop of fresh-cut hay. Far from Paris the French maintain deep connections to the land - owning often an ancestral home in the countryside, rustic and rooted in the agrarian.
Countryside is an 11" x 14" gelatin silver print (analog/film) in an edition of 5. The photograph is signed on recto (in margin) by the artist.

As a visual artist, Roberta Fineberg (RF) focuses on the themes of serendipity, inventiveness, the development of ideas and color fields for her mixed media works.
