Cristalleries De Baccarat, a Large French Cut-Crystal Tsarine Torchere

Cristalleries De Baccarat, A Large French Cut-Crystal Twenty-Four Light Tsarine Torcheres, Standing Floor Chandelier. "A Magnificent Chandelier" Each central stem issuing twenty-four out-scrolled candle branches suspending prisms and bell-flowers, on four splayed supports, in the Indian Maharaja style, stamped BACCARAT throughout. 86" high x 33" wide Wired for electricity. In overall excellent condition. The torchère is fully complete and there are no damages associated.Ready to place. D. Sautot, The Story of Baccarat, Paris, 1993. Cristalleries de Baccarat: The origins of the manufacture, also known as the Compagnie des Cristalleries de Baccarat, can be traced to 1764. On this year, King Louis XV accorded to the Bishop of Metz permission to establish a glass factory on his land, in the small village of Baccarat in Lorraine, in order to compete with the celebrated Bohemian production. Lorraine is traditionally a glass-making region, due to the abundance of silica in the soil and due to its large forests, which supplied the wood to fuel the ovens. Francois-Eugène de Fontenay, who joined the company in 1841, discovered that the addition of nickel oxide in the manufacturing process resulted in a perfectly clear product, 'crystal glass', that was free of discoloration and that imitated precious rock crystal. For this discovery, the Baccarat company was awarded a gold medal at the French Expositions des Produits de l'Industrie in 1844. Continually experimenting with their manufacturing process, the quality of Baccarat's 'crystal glass' improved, reaching the highest level by the end of the century. The Baccarat manufacture rapidly became a leading producer with highly skilled maître-verriers. In 1823, Baccarat participated for the first time at the National Exhibition. Louis XVIII was seduced by the quality of the pieces presented, which received the praise of the jury and the first gold medal. As a result of their success and innovations, the manufacture gradually consolidated its reputation, which allowed it to dominate the French market. The Russian fascination for Baccarat: In 1867, Tsar Alexander II visited the Exposition Universelle in Paris and fell in awe in the sight of Baccarat’s stand...

Series02 Large Flush Mount, Polished Unlacquered Brass, Goatskin Parchment Shade
By Adam Otlewski
Located in Ozone Park, NY
Solid machined brass, hand-stitched goatskin parchment shade with diffuser. Shades are made from genuine goatskin parchment, hand-selected for each lamp for its natural texture, pattern and color. Reminiscent of the lunar surface, its superior quality of light is unlike paper of any kind. Variations in pattern and texture are the be expected as each skin is unique. Shade construction is unlined, utilizing a single layer of parchment for optimal light transmission and may have a slight bow or curvature of the surface. This is a natural characteristic of the grain of the animal hide as well as the hand stretching and tanning process. All material finishes are living finishes: they will change and patina for the better with time and use. Every product is individually hand assembled; slight variations in color, size and shape are to be expected. Recommended bulb “LED 75/100 Watt Equivalent 2700k Dimmable” included. LED bulb only. Hardwired fixtures must be installed by a licensed electrician. Mounts only to standard junction boxes with either 2-3/4” or 3-1/2” mounting screw distance. Not suitable for damp locations. For color and finish combinations not shown, please inquire. UL certification is available for an additional fee. 7-3/4”H +/-, Shade 12” dia. x 6”H Polished unlacquered brass components can be rebrightened over time if desired using Brasso and a soft cloth (careful not to touch the leather); to regain...

Tiffany Studios New York "Nautilus" Table Lamp With "Mermaid" Base
By Tiffany Studios
Located in New York, NY
In Tiffany Studios' exquisite "Nautilus" table lamp, a cast bronze mermaid emerges from a churning sea, holding a lighted nautilus shell aloft. This lamp, one of the few patented by Tiffany Studios, received its patent on May 2, 1899, and was featured in Siegfried Bing’s landmark Louis Comfort Tiffany exhibition at the Grafton Galleries. The mermaid base was sculpted by Louis Gudebrod, the only lamp base artist credited by Tiffany Studios. The nautilus shell motif, prominent in European decorative arts of the 17th century, originated from Dutch ships that transported the shells from the South China Sea, some 15,000 miles away. These shells showcased the Dutch Republic's global mercantile strength, and Dutch painters often featured them in still-life works—many of which are now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s collection. Inspired by this artistic tradition, Tiffany transformed the iridescent shell into a table lamp. The shell softened and modulated the light, similar to the effect of Tiffany's Favrile glass shades, creating a warm glow reminiscent of the gas lighting familiar to the era. Item #: L-21744 Artist: Tiffany Studios New York Country: United States Circa: 1899 Dimensions: 17.5" height, 4.75" width, 8" deep. Materials: Nautilus shell, Bronze Base Signed: GUDEBROD and Tiffany Studios New York Literature: Alastair Duncan, "Tiffany Lamps and Metalware", Woodbridge, Suffolk, 2007, pg. 86, fig. 336. Macklowe Gallery Curator's Notes: The shape of the exotic nautilus, found in the western Pacific, has long been the muse of architects, artists, and designers. One only has to look to Grecian columns, to spiral staircases, or to the nautilus cups of the sixteenth century for examples. Louis Comfort Tiffany's glass interpretation of the "Nautilus" shell design was first displayed at the Paris Exposition Universelle 1900, where he was displaying the best lamps that he had to offer. By bringing this intricate and difficult-to-make model to the World's Fair, Tiffany was showing the international design world just how well-made and beautiful a Tiffany Studios New York lamp...

Modern Italian Pair of Smoked Texture Murano Glass Brass Wall / Ceiling Lights
By Cosulich Interiors Antiques
Located in New York, NY
Contemporary Italian Design pair of organic light fixtures with the versatility to be used either as sconces hung vertically or horizontally or as flush mount ceiling lights. They consist of two Murano glass half moon curved elements, in a sophisticated light terracotta / brown gray smoked tint, separated by a receded brass mount, part of the handmade supporting brass structure. The glass is elegantly and elaborately decorated with a textured pattern in the manner of Gio Ponti. This technique, allowing shadows to show through the decor, confers a unique glowing effect and enhances the texture. The lights are open at both ends and the design ends in a decorative tiered step outward curve. Each sconce is fitted with two Edison sockets. Customizable also in other finishes.
