Masami Teraoka Signed Limited Print New Views of Mt. Fuji, Sinking Pleasure Boat
By Masami Teraoka
Located in Studio City, CA
A very large and wonderfully detailed screen print by Asian/ Japanese American artist Masami Teraoka titled "New Views of Mt. Fuji: Sinking Pleasure Boat" is based on his original 1976-77 painting by the same name. The print is numbered in pencil at the lower edge (63/75), blind-stamped and dated (1977) at the upper right, sealed by Teraoka with his personal stamps/seals within the image, and likely hand-signed on verso (we have not removed the artwork from the frame but this is most likely the case). The work was printed on Rives BFK paper by Ron McPherson and Julie McPherson, and published by Space Gallery, Los Angeles, CA. Masami Teraoka has had over 70 solo exhibitions and he has twice been honored by the American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York. He has also received two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts. His works can be found in collections and museums around the world including: The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco; the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington D. C.; the Honolulu Museum of Art, Hawaii; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the National Portrait Gallery, Washington D. 1876 "Gettysburg, The Repulse of Longstreet s Assault." Engraving
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Presented here is an 1876 engraving of John B. Bachelder and James Walker’s Gettysburg. The Repulse of Longstreet’s Assault. The engraved scene depicts the decisive battle on the final day of the Battle of Gettysburg. Researched by the photographer and topographer John B. Bachelder and painted by James Walker, the original painting was created in 1870. This detailed engraving was done by H. B. Hall Jr. and published by James Drummond Ball. Otherwise called Pickett’s Charge, the battle occurred on July 3, 1863. Pickett’s corp commander, Lieutenant General James Longstreet was placed in charge of the attack despite his hesitations. Longstreet’s central role led to the title of the work, Repulse of Longstreet’s Assault. In an attempt to gain control of an important supply route, nine Confederate brigades charged across three-quarters of a mile of open ground against cannon fire to take Cemetery Ridge from the defending Union Army. Despite their overwhelming numbers, the Confederate forces were repelled with considerable casualties marking not only a decisive victory for the Union, but also the beginning of the slow defeat of Lee’s Army. The furthest the charging forces advanced before being repulsed would forever be known as the “High Water Mark of the Confederacy.” The Confederate army never recovered from the losses at Gettysburg and it effectively ended Lee’s campaign into Pennsylvania. The engraving gives the perspective from the Union rear, one that encompasses most of the battlefield, from Big Round Top on the left to the northern reaches of Cemetery Ridge on the right. The Confederate lines at Seminary Ridge are in the far distance, partially obscured by bursting shells. The image centers on the main Confederate assault, in the vicinity of what today are known as "The Copse" and "The Bloody Angle." The composition has elemen...

Pair of Victorian Fashion Engravings in Carved Black Forest Frames, 19th C.
By La Mode Illustrée
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
This exquisite pair of 19th-century Victorian fashion engravings is presented in beautifully carved Black Forest–style walnut frames, each decorated with deep floral and foliate appliqués at the corners. These hand-colored prints depict elegantly dressed women in period attire, showcasing hairstyles, silhouettes, and textiles emblematic of mid-to-late 1800s European fashion illustration. The prints were traditionally attributed to La Mode Illustrée or Le Follet, two of the most iconic fashion journals of the Victorian era known for their detailed, hand-tinted engravings. While the prints do not bear a visible plate signature due to age and framing, the style, palette, and rendering strongly match fashion plates issued between 1860–1880. Provenance Handwritten notes on the verso indicate the works were framed in the 1940s by Thompson Gillette of Elkins, Oklahoma. Additional inscriptions list previous owners Dorothy & Nelson Wright, adding charming mid-century provenance to the pieces. Styling Suggestions These framed antique fashion prints style beautifully in: - A French country–inspired dressing room or walk-in closet - A feminine bedroom, powder room, or reading nook - A gallery wall pairing Victorian, Rococo Revival, or cottagecore décor - A boutique or fashion studio, adding authentic 19th-century charm - Layered on a mantel or console, leaning casually for a collected Old-World aesthetic - Alternatively, the prints could be switched out for a print of your choosing. Their carved Black Forest frames bring warmth, depth, and sculptural texture, making this pair ideal for collectors who love European antiques, folk carving...

"Four at the Table", 1940s American Scene Lithograph by Woman Artist
Located in Philadelphia, PA
One of the most intriguing and mysterious WPA-era prints we have ever offered, this rare, possibly unique work depicts a group of two women and two men in intense conversation at a crude wood table, in a simple room with cracks in the plaster that show the wood lath underneath. The four almost seem like a group on the lam in a film noir from the period, desperately running from a crime of some kind. Two of the four face downward, deeply focused on the subject at hand, and another is lost in thought, a pipe in his mouth. The fourth is most mysterious of all, facing away from the viewer. but clearly animated and in conversation. The artist was Alice Harold Murphy...

Robert Frank Untitled from the Americans, 1958, Beats Culture, Black White
By Robert Frank
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Robert Frank Untitled from the Americans, 1958, Beats Culture, Black White. Photogravure print, mid-century, France, wax tissue mounted on conservation matboard. Influenced by the work of Jakob Tuggener and Bill Brandt, as well as Walker Evans, Frank, a native of Switzerland, Frank was fascinated by documentary photography and the notion and image of "America." Frank secured a Guggenheim fellowship in 1955 to do something new and unconstrained by commercial diktats. "The Americans" was first published in 1958 in France, before its first run in the US in 1959. The photographs were shocking and notable for their distanced view of both high and low strata of American society, creating a complicated portrait of a period that was, then and now, considered to be a skeptical portrait of post-WWII American values but also deeply empathetic and profoundly evocative of ubiquitous loneliness. Frank found a tension in the gloss of American culture and wealth over race and class differences, which gave his photographs a clear contrast to those of most contemporary American photojournalists, as did his use of unusual focus, low lighting and cropping that deviated from accepted photographic techniques. Shortly before the book was published in France, Frank returned to the US (1957) and met Jack Kerouac on the sidewalk outside a party. They started chatting. Frank showed him some of his photographs. Kerouac immediately told Frank "Sure, I can write something about these pictures." Kerouac would write the introduction to the American edition of the book, published two years later. Sociologist Howard S...
