This is an exceptional brooch, created by the iconic jewelry house of Cartier, back in the 1970. This brooch was carefully sculpted in three dimensions in the shape of a mythical dragon. Has been crafted with spiky patterns in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with highly textured finish. It is embellished with four natural earth mined gemstones, such rubies and emeralds. It is fitted at the reverse, with a hinged pin bar and a mechanical lock to wear as a brooch. This is a great statement piece of jewelry and we are sure will stimulate great conversations. This mythical animal can be exhibited as a sculpture, since stand alone in their claws.
The Dragon & His Year
This mythical animal symbolizes power, good fortune, and strength and is associated with auspicious traits like intelligence, ambition and charisma. Historically linked with imperial power, Chinese emperors considered themselves descendants of dragons, emphasizing the dragon's esteemed position. The Year of the Dragon holds immense significance in the Chinese zodiac, repeating every 12 years. And this year’s Chinese Lunar New Year, occurring Feb. 10, follows the Year of the Rabbit, with Dragon. In contrast to the other eleven animal signs (Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig) in the Chinese zodiac, Dragon is the only legendary creature. Historically linked with imperial power, Chinese emperors considered themselves descendants of dragons, emphasizing the dragon’s esteemed position. European legends portray dragons as demonic, malevolent beings guarding treasures to be conquered by heroic kings. This stunning, fine and impressive antique Victorian brooch has been crafted in 15k yellow gold.
This fine brooch has a pierced decorated elliptical frame, displaying two floral motifs.
The brooch is ornamented to the center with an impressive bezel set cabochon cut opal.
This stunning central gemstone is flanked with flower motifs, each ornamented to the center with a claw set Old European cut diamond.
Each diamond is encircled by six individually set cabochon cut opals, completing the cluster designs.
The elliptical frame conjoining each floral cluster is embellished with two claw set round faceted cut rubies to the center of the arch.
The Victorian bar brooch features an individual eight claw set round faceted cut ruby decorated terminal to either end.
The brooch secures with a hinged pin and clasp to the reverse.
The brooch is fitted to an impressive hinged leatherette presentation box, with a satin and velvet lined interior, securing with a push fit catch.
This opal brooch has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 15 karat gold.
This impressive Victorian brooch is supplied with an independent diamond grading report card.
Condition
This impressive brooch is excellent quality, set with impressive opals displaying a scintillating play of color. The impressive rubies displaying fine color and brilliance. The supporting diamonds display a fine white color and brilliance. The exterior of the box is in presentation condition; the interior of the box shows wear in keeping with age. The brooch is an excellent gauge of gold and is in excellent condition.
