By the Beach, Abstract Painting
By Jenn Williamson
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
Jenn painted this piece using Golden Open Acrylics, which take longer to dry and therefore allow for more blending time. Jenn uses this technique to give the painting a dreamy and hopeful essence. "I am more passionate than ever about painting peaceful, reflective art that provides serenity and beauty," she says. This piece was painted on Arches heavyweight paper and includes a 1 5/8" border around the edge for ease of framing.

About the Artist
Jenn Williamson expertly evokes the scenery of British Columbia in her soft abstract landscapes. She utilizes defining horizontal and vertical strokes, coupled with a skillful handling of color, to create significant depth in each piece. Her paintings, though abstracted, clearly convey the atmospheric attributes of the scene–rain, wind, clouds, fog. Jenn’s muted color palette transports the viewer to the Canadian west...

Reflections on Crossing XXXVIII / abstract realism, architecture, minimalism
By Anne Subercaseaux
Located in Burlingame, CA
Shades of dark cobalt blue and light blue with patterns are at play in Anne Subercaseaux's meticulously painted 'Reflections on Crossing XXXVIII', oil on canvas. Anne Subercaseaux finds substance in the insubstantial, in paintings that freeze the ephemeral patterns of reflection and shadow. In her muted, almost monochrome palettes, images seem familiar but still elusive. The precise silhouette of a bridge girder or a windblown branch moves into focus and out again, a fleeting glimpse from the corner of the eye...

Night Flight, Abstract Painting
By Janine Etherington
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
After a flight back and forth across the country, Janine's exploration in her studio started with a playful mixing of colors directly on the canvas. A shape emerged in that process that she chose to repeat and then incorporate with a series of glazes. Stepping back and looking at the result, the image reminded her of those hours spent moving through the clouds to finally find herself back home.

About the Artist
Janine’s abstract artworks are created with measured doses of both intuition and analysis. “My work develops as a series of calls and responses,” she says. She adds color, letting gravity pull the paint around. She then responds to the direction of the composition with additional marks, adding and subtracting. The incorporation of recognizable forms, specifically letters and numbers, indicates the influences of Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg on Janine’s work. Janine is also inspired by listening to jazz music. She is a musician herself, and plays in a local Zimbabwean marimba ensemble when she’s not painting.

"A Piece of Heaven" Abstract Oil Painting on Canvas Illustrator Bill Shields
Located in Arp, TX
William Stephens Shields, Jr., 1925 - 2010 "A Piece of Heaven" 1994 Oil on canvas 48"x48" artist framed Signed lower right William Stephens Shields, Jr., 1925 - 2010 He was born in san Francisco, in 1931, Bill moved to Texas, where he grew up. Moved to New York in 1940 and later joined the Naval Air Corps at the age of 18. He served as an Aviation Cadet in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945. At the end of WWII, Bill returned to Texas. At 21, Bill re-focused his energy and enrolled in the Chicago Academy of Fine Art as an Illustration major. What followed was a whirlwind of success, great friendships and a sense of belonging he had never before experienced. Art was his calling and the art-world could not have been less prepared for the likes of Bill Shields. He took them by storm, first Houston, then San Francisco, followed by New York in the late 60's. For 35 years, Bill produced some of the country's best illustrations: fresh, playful, loose and innovative. His illustrations were coveted by such clients as Bantam Books, Time Life, MacMillan Publishing Co., and were awarded numerous gold medals by the Societies of Illustrators in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles, and the Houston Artists Guild. Later, following inspirational trips to Mexico and France, Bill shifted his attention to the self-directed world of fine art. After years of sculpting, making assemblages, painting nudes and landscapes, he settled on the exploration of large abstract oil paintings. His paintings have been exhibited in galleries in San Francisco, Connecticut and New York.
