When you purchase from an auction house, you pay a buyer’s premium of anywhere from 23% to 28% over the “hammer price”. So when you “win” an auction for $20,000, the actual price paid is more like $25,000. By contrast, when purchasing from us, the price agreed to is the price paid by the buyer, no hidden fees.
When you purchase from an auction house, you pay the packing and shipping fees, which are usually exorbitant. By contrast, when purchasing from us, the price includes packing and shipping.
When you purchase from an auction house, the sale is final. If you receive the piece and are not 100% satisfied with it, there is nothing you can do about it. You are stuck with it. By contrast, when purchasing from us, the buyer can determine if they want to keep it. If not, the buyer returns to piece to us for full refund, and we pay the shipping both ways!

Vintage Abstract Expressionist Ibram Lassaw Modernist Bronze Sculpture Pendant

IBRAM LASSAW
(Russian-American, 1913-2003),
Sculptural pendant
Gold plated bronze
Signed verso
Measurements: 2-7/8''h, 2-1/4''w.
Ibram Lassaw was born in Alexandria, Egypt, of Russian Jewish émigré parents. After briefly living in Marseille, France, Naples, Italy Tunis, Malta, and Constantinople, Turkey his family settled in Brooklyn, New York, in 1921.His family settled in Brooklyn, New York. He became a US citizen in 1928. Ibram Lassaw, one of America's first abstract sculptors, was best known for his open-space welded sculptures of bronze, silver, copper and steel. Drawing from Surrealism, Constructivism, and Cubism, Lassaw pioneered an innovative welding technique that allowed him to create dynamic, intricate, and expressive works in three dimensions. As a result, he was a key force in shaping New York School sculpture. He first studied sculpture in 1926 at the Clay Club and later at the Beaux-Arts Institute of Design in New York. He made abstract paintings and drawings influenced by Kandinsky, Sophie Taeuber Arp, and other artists. He also attended the City College of New York. Lassaw’s encounter with avant-garde art in the International Exhibition of Modern Art (1926), organized by the Société Anonyme at the Brooklyn Museum, made a powerful impression on him. In the early 1930s he explored new materials and notions of open-space sculpture. The ideas of László Moholy-Nagy and Buckminster Fuller were important to him, and he knew the work of Julio González, Pablo Picasso, and the Russian Constructivists. After experimenting with plaster, rubber and wire, Lassaw began working with steel, which became a frequent medium for the artist, along with other metals. His work reflects the influence of Surrealist artists such as Alberto Giacometti and Joan Miro as well as American Modernist Alexander Calder.A pioneer of abstract sculpture in the United States, in 1936 Lassaw was a founding member of the organization American Abstract Artists. Between 1933 and 1942 he worked for various federal arts projects: the Public Works of Art Project, Civil Works Authority, and WPA, the Works Progress Administration Federal Art Project. In 1938 he produced his first welded work. He served with the U.S. Army, where he learned direct welding techniques. During the 1940s he experimented with cage constructions and with acrylic plastics, adding color to his sculptures by applying dye directly to their surfaces. In 1949 Lassaw was a founder of the Club, an informal discussion group of avant-garde artists that had developed from gatherings at his studio, on Eighth Street.
During the mid-1930s, Lassaw worked briefly for the Public Works of Art Project cleaning sculptural monuments around New York City. He subsequently joined the WPA as a teacher and sculptor until he was drafted into the army in 1942. Lassaw's contribution to the advancement of sculptural abstraction went beyond mere formal innovation; his promotion of modernist styles during the 1930s did much to insure the growth of abstract art in the United States. He was one of the founding members of the American Abstract Artists group, and served as president of the American Abstract Artists organization from 1946 to 1949. In 1951, Samuel Kootz invited Lassaw to join his gallery in New York. He also had a summer gallery in Provincetown, MA. Lassaw had been summering in Provincetown since 1944, and in 1951 rented an apartment next door to the Kootz Gallery. Among the artists in the Kootz Gallery were Jean Arp, William Baziotes, Georges Braque, Jean Dubuffet, Herbert Ferber, Arshile Gorky, Adolph Gottlieb, David Hare, Hans Hofmann, Fernand Leger, Georges Mathieu, Joan Miró, Robert Motherwell, Pablo Picasso, Pierre Soulages, and Maurice de Vlaminck. Lassaw is a sculptor who was a part of the New York School of Abstract expressionism during the 1940s and 1950s. Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, James Brooks, Willem de Kooning, and several other artists like Lassaw spent summers on the Southern Shore of Long Island. Lassaw spent summers on Long Island from 1955 until he moved there permanently in 1963.

Abstract Expressionist Biomorphic Welded Metal Sculpture
By Seymour Lipton
Located in Surfside, FL
Welded, brazed sculpture on wooden base
This is not signed or dated
This work is unsigned. We were told it was the work of Seymour Lipton but as there is further documentation we are selling it as attributed and cannot guarantee it as such.
Seymour Lipton (1903 – 1986) was an American abstract expressionist sculptor. He was a member of the New York School who gained widespread recognition in the 1950s. He initially trained as a dentist, like fellow sculptor Herbert Ferber, receiving his degree from Columbia University in 1927. In the late 1920s, he began to explore sculpture, creating clay portraits of family members and friends. His early choices of medium changed from wood to lead and then to bronze, and he is best known for his work in metal. Like his contemporary, Abstract Expressionist Jackson Pollock, and Arshile Gorky Lipton was influenced by Carl Jung’s work on the unconscious mind and the regenerative forces of nature. He translated these two-dimensional drawings into three-dimensional maquettes that enabled him to revise his ideas before creating the final sculpture. The forms that Lipton produced during this period were often zoomorphic, exemplifying the tension between the souls of nature and the automatism of the machine. He made several technical innovations, including brazing nickel silver rods onto sheets of Monel to create rust resistant forms. Seymour Lipton is best known for his textured torch welded metal sculptures...

Carlos Betancourt Sculpture Spray Paint Painting Miami Latin American Modern Art

Located in Surfside, FL
Carlos Betancourt, American (Born 1966)
Abstract Sculpture
Spray Paint and hand Painted Sculptural Wall Applique.
Hand signed.
Dimensions: 28.75" x 26.5"
Three dimensional neo primitive wall relief I believe this is from The Sounds Symbols Project (2000), a monumental ephemeral installation in the sand in Miami Beach.
Carlos Betancourt (born San Juan, Puerto Rico 1966) is an American multi-disciplinary artist. His artworks explore issues of memory, and his own experiences, while also dwelling in issues of nature, the environment and matters of beauty, identity and communication. He has worked as a curator, furniture designer and has collaborated in with Louis Vuitton as well as on architectural and site-specific private and public commissions with architect Alberto Latorre.
Betancourt artwork is in part inspired by his relationship with nature as well as by the diverse cultures and history of the Caribbean basin, Florida and the Americas. Also by artist Ana Mendieta interventions, Robert Rauschenberg assemblages, Andy Warhol perceptions, Neo Rauch compositions, and a Federico Fellini-esque cast of characters for his photo assemblages. Additionally, he relates to some of theorist Jean Baudrillard views about art and his philosophy on objects; French artist Gustave Courbet's idea that "the only possible source for living art is the artist's own experiences", as well as the Martinican writer and theoretician, Edouard Glissant's belief that ..."the past resides in material objects that only release their hidden meanings when encountered imaginatively and sensuously. Betancourt admires the works of diverse artists such as Fernando Oller, Cisco Jimenez, Bill Viola...

Folded Flat Linen 01
2016
Dimensions: H: 36 cm / W: 35 cm / D: 9 cm
Materials: architectural wire mesh, raw linen
Born in 1962 in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, Sebastien De Ganay studied political science and film at Columbia University in New York 1986-1990 ( (Bachelor of Political Science, Master of Fine Arts in Cinema) and is co-founder and editor of the art book publishing house onestar press. In addition to numerous exhibition participations, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Landesmuseum Österreich in St. Pölten, Austria, the Institut Français in Vienna showed a comprehensive solo exhibition of the artist in 2014. In 2017, de Ganay realized a highly acclaimed installation for the Kunsthalle Krems. de Ganay lives and works in Austria.
de Ganay produces minimalist abstract art works, painting, relief and wall sculpture. Sculptures made of aluminum, linen fabric, plastic, oil painting, wood and other materials. de Ganay joins a tradition of experimental artists. In this sense, for example, the Achromes by the Italian Arte-Povera artist Piero Manzoni, created in the 1960s, point the way for de Ganay's examination of folded linen fabric.
"The process of de Ganay's Painting is the process of thought itself; it is a process which turns not away from painting, but towards it. And rather than seeing painting as closure, he presents his work to us as a space of multiple openings, layers, shadows and reflections. Painting is, as much as an object or a process, a state of flux."
(Adrian Searle, art critic for The Guardian, London (1994)) In the style of Readymades and Arte Povera, de Ganay starts out from a simple utility material and combines this with an examination of the surface in the tradition of Minimal Art. He designed a limited edition chair "PLEASE" a “4 Piece Chair” customized by John Baldessari, Lawrence Weiner and Rirkrit Tiravanija.

Organic Abstract Cast Paper Sculpture Relief Painting Suzanne Anker

"Cocoon (1990)" by Suzanne Anker
Suzanne Anker (born August 6, 1946) is an American visual artist and theorist. Considered a pioneer in Bio Art. She has been working at the relationship of art and the biological sciences for more than twenty five years. Her practice investigates the ways in which nature is being altered in the 21st century. Concerned with genetics, climate change, species extinction and toxic degradation, she calls attention to the beauty of life and the "necessity for enlightened thinking about nature’s 'tangled bank'.” Anker frequently works with "pre-defined and found materials"botanical specimens, medical museum artifacts, laboratory apparatus, microscopic images and geological specimens.
Suzanne Anker was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 6, 1946. She earned a B.A. in Art from Brooklyn College of the City of New York and an M.F.A. from the University of Colorado in Boulder (1976). She also completed independent Studies with Ad Reinhardt (1966-1967) and studied at the Brooklyn Museum Art School (1968). She lives with the artist Frank Gillette in Manhattan and East Hampton, NY.
During the mid 70s to the mid 80s, Anker worked almost exclusively on sculptural handmade paper reliefs. She started papermaking in 1974 on the basis of reading Dard Hunter's and Claire Romano's books. In 1975 she worked with Garner Tullis at the Institute of Experimental Printmaking in Santa Cruz, California. The paper reliefs produced at his institute were exhibited at the Martha Jackson Gallery in New York City in 1976.[ The same year, she participated in the North American Hand Papermaking exhibition organized by Richard Minsky at the Center for Book Arts in New York City.
From a background as a printmaker, Anker initially worked with cast paper, made in latex molds. Subsequently, she incorporated limestone and fossils in her experiment with combinations of paper and stone. For her 1979 solo exhibition at the Walker Art Center, Anker installed large limestone planks that extended from the interior to the exterior of the gallery. The same year, she presented an installation of limestone and its residual chalk dust at P.S. 1’s "A Great Big Drawing Show" curated by Alanna Heiss with artists Vito Acconci, Alice Aycock, Frank Gillette, Sol LeWitt, Robert Morris, Bruce Nauman, Dennis Oppenheim, Richard Serra, and others.
Suzanne Anker is considered "one of the pioneers in the broader field of art, science, and technology", particularly in the burgeoning field of Bio Art.
In 1994, Suzanne Anker curated Gene Culture: Molecular Metaphor in Visual Art – one of the first art exhibitions on the subject of art and genetics – at Fordham University’s Lincoln Center Campus in New York. The exhibition investigated "the ways in which genetic imaging operates as aesthetic signs".
From 2004 to 2006, Suzanne Anker hosted twenty episodes of the Bio-Blurb Show, a 30-minute-long internet radio program originally broadcast on WPS1 Art Radio, in collaboration with MoMA. The show focused on the intersection of art and the biological sciences, and the ethical and aesthetic dimensions therein. It is currently archived on Alanna Heiss’ Clocktower Productions.
In 2006, Anker co-curated the exhibition Neuroculture: Visual Art and the Brain, at the Westport Arts Center with Giovanni Frazzetto. The exhibition presented an investigation of aspects of the human brain, and its attendant representations.
Suzanne Anker is the Chair of the School of Visual Arts (SVA)'s BFA Fine Arts Department in New York City (2005-present). She previously chaired the SVA BFA Art History Department (2000-2005). In 2011, Anker founded the SVA Bio Art Lab, the first Bio Art laboratory in a Fine Arts Department in the United States. The SVA Bio Art Lab is located in Chelsea, New York City and has been conceived as a place where "scientific tools and techniques become methodologies in art practice".
Anker has participated in lectures and symposia in prominent institutions around the world, including Harvard University, Boston; University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK; Yale University, New Haven; Art-Sci UCLA, Los Angeles; Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), Baltimore; Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York; Museum of Arts and Design, New York; Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; London School of Economics, London; European Molecular Biology Laboratory- EMBL, Monterotondo, Italy; Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics, Dresden; Leiden University, NL; Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin; Dundee Contemporary Arts, Dundee; Courtauld Institute of Art, London; Banff Art Center, Alberta; The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, Washington, D.C.; Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, Berlin;[ University of Amsterdam, NL; New York Academy of Sciences, Institute for the Humanities, New York University; DLD, Munich.
Selected artworks
Gene Pool
Anker’s interests in the natural world extended her investigation into the microscopic domain of chromosomes and genes. Appropriating scientific images, she created Gene Pool in 1991, a body of work that includes suspended pigment on large vellum sheets and expansive sculptural arrays employing metallic fibers of stainless steel, copper, aluminum and bronze.
Other works that reflect scientific representations of chromosomes include Chromosome Chart of Suzanne Anker –a presentation of her own DNA sequence as a self-portrait– and Cellular Script, in which she displays chromosome patterns as a kind of calligraphy.
Biota (2011) is a sculptural installation by Suzanne Anker composed of porcelain sculptures and silver-leaf figurines. The porcelain objects are fabricated by immersing natural sea sponges into a mixture of kaolin, feldspar, and quartz. "The organic material of the sponge burns away in the process, leaving behind only the perfect replica of nature".

Located in Surfside, FL
Mario Almaguer (b. Marianao, Cuba, 1955) He moved to the U.S. in 1994 to Miami where since has been living and working. Essentially self-taught, he embraced sculpture as his mean for expression. Without any kind of formal academic education or training in the arts, perseverance and praxis made him an artist. His work has been influenced by cuban master Agustin Cardenas and british Henry Moore. In his early years until 1994 he produced a large amount of small and medium scale wooden sculptures. From 1994 to the present, Almaguer creates and produces steel sculptures. It's with his works on steel where he encounters a strong expression with a striking liberty hard to deliver in wood. His monumental sculptures were recently exhibited at Miami Dade...

Music Sonata In A Shadow Box
By Erik J. Erikson
Located in Lake Worth Beach, FL
Music Sonata In A Shadow Box 2023
Mixed Media, artist signed, front Plexiglas.
This sculpture is perfect for the wall or a coffee table.
This 3D music diorama found its home in a drawer from an antique Tansu Chest. Some of the 3D elements were made by Erikson. Antique materials achieve a vintage and interesting aesthetic. The depth of the case creates a stage like atmosphere as sort of a visual guide for the viewers eye. The overlapping and juxtaposition of the elements creates a intriguing and appealing composition.
Very often Erikson art echoes and fuses antiquity and modernity. Erikson’s central imagery concerns itself with intrigue and a sense of surprise. His body of work is often dispersed with visual, tactile and intellectual delights that lead the viewer on their own form of discovery. Erikson’s awareness of the aesthetic in sending things back in time is a result of studying the Renaissance and other periods of art history. This infusion of historical art references has had a vital effect on his body of work. Heavily influenced by the well known New York art dealer Allan Stone (who represented, among other giants, Joseph Cornell, and Willem de Kooning, Erikson has never departed from Stone’s insistence that “surprise” should remain with a piece of art no matter how long it is viewed. The discipline of archeology decodes messages of the past to find meanings of objects and classify them. This observation takes the viewer on a deeper understanding of the interplay. As a curator of his own “museum cases” in other work, Erikson’s personal vocabulary evokes images of extreme preciousness combined in miniature settings. Despite its minute scale his work commands presence and a sense of vastness. In his body of work, Erikson attempts to introduce sculpture to painting as a way of integrating the second and third dimensions.
